Who’s coming to see me on tour with The Longest John’s, this month???
Stay exquisitely handsome!
Please come to Canada 😢specifically Montreal
I WISH I could be there. At every performance of yours, really.
I'll do my all to be in Dublin on February 15th next year, though 🔥
Two weeks to the day. My tickets are still on the refrigerator door.
I really hope you'll come to Virginia soon
Looking forward to seeing you in BC!
Cardigan = heavenly banjo skills
No cardigan = heavenly violin skills
Great combo!
They say the clothes make the man, but the clothes seems to make the music man too XD.
@@zatobravehart7468 frr lol!
The diot 🔥
Very meta 💀😂
Came to point out that Freudian slip 😂
A Stan Rogers classic to get us through the week? You spoil us Colm
"i wanna be in the cavalry!"
I _thought_ the melody was the same!
ruclips.net/video/gh2g57CzF7w/видео.htmlsi=hfOhApTrBonh4-dj already done 🔥
I’m glad I’m not the only one who see that.
And Colm's covered both "I wanna be in the cavalry" and it's sequel!
I noticed the melody when listening to Seth Staton Watkins' version.
But you know I love Colms even more!
Ah, Stan Rogers. Such a Canadian treasure. Thank you for this video Colm! Banger of a cover!
Stan Rogers is the absolute GOAT. It's good to see his song still being sung. Great cover.
It is not often that music takes you down a journey, its even less frequent for a song to touch ones soul in ways that many would not understand. As I sit and listen to this memories dance around my room and a breeze blows through crisp to the touch. I have no connection to this song however you as a musician capture the real essence of so many songs and in doing that create a connection that is truly beyond words, its something that can only be felt. Thank you for sharing you talent with us all! God bless you and your family may your way forever be blessed.
That is just beautiful! Well said.
It's sentiments like that which spoil me for "shallower" music. Something can have an amazing sound, but it's not every song that can truly stir the soul.
The accent with colms tone is just too mindblowing. I love his voice and I loved this song for a long time. But colm just adds an addictive quality too all his songs.
I don't know if longer comments engage the algorithm more or not. But the time and dedication Colm has put into developing all his skills - from composing to singing and everything in-between - shines through in every new release.
Say very handsome and thank you for yet another awesome song.
Stan Roger's music means a lot to many of us Canadians, Thank you! 🇨🇦 🍁
And to many Americans as well
I have been fortunate enough to twice run into Garnet Rogers (Stan's brother and the guitarist/chief fiddler in the band) who is himself a wonderful singer and musician.
This was a nice treat on a crappy day on the ocean. The musical changes absolutely both honor the original AND make this truly your own. Thanks Colm!
My favorite Stan Roger's song, beautifully sung. I think dear old Stan would be proud.
This week my girl and I were finally able to meet up after being apart for a long time.
We listened to you every day, your voice reminds me of the things she and I did together. At this point you mean home to us ❤
Stan Roger's songs are heartbreakingly beautiful.. He died too soon. You are doing his work justice. Thank you for this cover.
Just wanted to say, it means a lot that you covered this and did so with respect to the original sentiment it was written with. I only vaguely remembered this song from my childhood and rediscovered it when I had to chase work around Western Canada during a layoff in 2016. Really got me through some rough days.
Nothing gets my mood up like a video from Colm McGuinness ❤
COLM DOES OLD STAN ROGERS MY LIFE IS COMPLETE.
Wait until you hear his renditions of the Northwest Passage, Barretts Privateers, and Old Maui.
@@canadianbard1847I’m still hoping he’ll do Mary Ellen Carter next.
Finally, Stan Roggers.... Blue Nose ....oh blue nose...
Saw the title and thought "oh! a song about me!"
Then I listened to the lyrics and realized "oh.....a song about me"
@@Liethen LOL
So real tho

I'm a simple girl I see a Stan Rogers cover I click on it and play it on repeat for six hours.
This is one of my favorites. Might I suggest Mary Ellen Carter for your next Stan cover? 😁
Yes please.
Nothing beats Stan Rodgers for a singalong while slogging through the day
No way, I was just listening to this song! Thank you!
Also, the witch of the westmourland cover would be amazing!
I second that!
If you ever come to Germany I am so going to go to your concert! From what I see your upcoming tour is in USA/UK/Ireland which I probably won't be able to attend sadly :(
I wouldn't mind an entire Stan Rogers playlist by you.
God yes.
Just what I needed. A beautiful classic in true Colm fashion. 🎶🎵👏
As someone who cannot help but sing along to this fine tune I was silenced in awe at this rendition. Well done Mr. Mcguinness, as always.
I got a phone call during my time listening to this. I wanted to cancel that person. You don't interrupt Colm and his great voice!
Sitting in a gravel pit, far from home, covered in filth and breathing the dust in the hammering winds, I needed this today. Thank you.
Perfect timing for an unwind after a busy day~ appreciate the vibes bard McGuinness🎉
I don't always love when you (or anyone) does Stan covers, but this was lovely; thanks so much.
This will be a fine addition to my collection!
(Adds to playlists)
Absolutely wonderful ❤
It's good to see Stan the man making rounds online. He was a great storyteller and, in my opinion, a worthy Canadian legend like few others. I personally enjoy The Giant and The North West Passage. Great cover, as always!
This song feels like the hug I've been needing. Thank you, Colm
I’m have been hoping and praying that you would do a cover of this song and here we are. This is my favorite Stan Roger’s song Colm and I’d say that you did it justice.
Come on Colm fans - let's share his videos far and wide to get this man to a million subscribers. Talent like this only deserves it!
Always a good day when Ol' Stan comes around. Excellent work, sir.
Fantastic!
Much ❤ from 🇨🇦
Unfortunately I can't make your tour this month, but hopefully I'll be able to see you someday! In the meantime, I'll be listening to this beautiful rendition of my favorite Stan Rogers song as well as your other recordings. May you all be safe on your tour and return home with many happy memories!
Absolutely gorgeous performance!
This is one of my favourite Stan Rogers songs and you manage to make it even sadder. Thank you.
Holding out hopes you’ll cover Mary Ellen Carter next, please. 💜
Yes yes yes finally ❤
I love this song! thanks for one more epic song to add to my playlist!
Thank you Colm! ❤❤ I remember saying to you this was my favourite of Stan's xx Thank you for covering it 😄 Was sad you could not make the LJ UK tour - hopefully soon 😄
Wahoo! I am so excited you are doing a colab with the longest johns! I have been waiting for that announcement for a long time. I love you both!
I have been waiting for you to do this one for YEARS! You did not disappoint.
Ah man, more of this please!! ❤
That's great! I'd love to hear your version of Song of the Candle if you ever feel like doing more Stan Rogers covers.
This is so good! Thanks Colm
🔥🔥🔥
Aah Colm my friend this is a treat. I've been waiting for this since I discovered your channel.
Lots lof love from this Australian mine worker.
My favorite Stan Rogers song...
❤
Augh. I just sat down for breakfast, I feel spoiled. Thank you for the beautiful cover once again, Colm! You always give us nothing but your best!
Always been a fav
I hope we get some happy Colm music when he gets back from tour.
The part at the beginning sounds a lot like " I wanna be in the cavalry" haha
I saw another commenter say the composer of Cavalry asked the composer of this song if he could re-use the melody, since this song was written first.
@@kylajensen1957 ohhhh, that makes more sense now.. the resemblance is identical hahaha thanks for the clarification
The title has been updated while I listen :D
I wasn't familiar with this song, but it doesn't surprise me that the man who wrote "Barrett's Privateers" and "Northwest Passage" also gave us this beauty, and it surprises me even less that you would do it such justice. It kind of reminds me of your original shanty, "The Last Length."
Already loving the cover Colm! Love from Texas
Amazing song! Keep up the great work! Would be coming to see you, if you all were coming to the southeast.
Great stuff.
such a great choice of song!!!
What a treat, probably my favourite Stan Rogers tune. Thank you for this one Colm
Thank you for doing this one!
Best wishes from Canada. 🇨🇦
Спасибо!
Me: going to bed after one more vid.
Colm: uploads this cover
me throughout the vid :D
I love this song
EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a nova Scotian who left for greener pastures, this song always speaks hard. I often wonder what stan Rogers would think of the maritimes these days.
I will forever love your music, your voice, and your style never stop doing what you best :)
Let’s gooo! This has always been one of my favorite songs
I like that you're returning to the Irish jigs. Thank you.
Was waiting for this cover, sounds amazing! Very well done!
I've been waiting to see a cover of this song and it was SO WORTH IT!!!
I couldn't help noticing (because there were close ups), our dude is sporting some manly chestiness. Nice to see that addition. Eye candy to compliment the butter smooth vocals.
Huge fan of Stan Rogers (taken to early) and his son Nathan, so this was a welcome cover. It would be cool for you to reach out to Nathan about doing a cover or collab for one of his greats like Billboard Babies or Jewel of Paris.
I wish there were multiple "like" buttons. This was fantastic!
Stan Rogers
Admirable pride is what this song is. It would have been so easy, for so many men to just accept the dole. Just take the government money, and not have to leave their homes, their precious home province.
But God bless them, they had more pride than that.
I think you've got a slight typo in your title (missing the first I of idiot)! Other than that, so excited to see this, love some Stan Rogers.
I was wondering why people were commenting "the diot"! I came a little too late to see the typo lol.
@@charmanderlover6433 I saw it and was like "something is wrong..." and then I looked again and it was fine, so I assumed I'd misread 😂 I'm so glad people commented on it so I know I'm not THAT confused 😂😂
Nice, love the song and the cover!
I love your covers and originals they are so amazing keep up the good work sir ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ stay handsome, Colm McGuinness 🇮🇪 - Haily ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Seeing a notification that Colm has uploaded always sparks joy
This was great! Next, you should Piano Man by Billy Joel.
Colm gets me into songs/artists that i would have never thought i would listen to, haha. Thanks for the beautiful cover, as always :)
This makes me so homesick it hurts....
Another one of my favourites! Now we all know you need to do a mashup with someone singing both I Wanna Be in the Cavalry and this tune, right?
Can already hear the clanking of steel in the background
I like the song keep up the amazing work God bless you
Always glad to see Stan Rogers (especially when it's something other than The Big Three ;D not that there's anything wrong with a good cover of Barrett's! But there are so many good ones that get overlooked). I agree that this is a more serious/slower version than his, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that, if I wanted identical I'd listen to the original. Really excellent, in my opinion.
No amount of editing the title can fool me Colm!
When you wanna be in the cavalry but fail miserably
Nobody covers Rogers better than our boy Colm
Seems like this song can be the answer for siren's question.
Regarding the tour, is John some sort of local euphemism for deeck? 🤣 That would be a tall boast.
Self respect and a steady check been a factory worker for a while and yeah nobody respects what I do but I know how hard it can be and am proud to be able to handle it when so many couldn’t and I may not be rich but I know that I’m making a decent living and that’s good for enough for me.
This is amazing. I had to add it to my music list.
