Her eyes ensnared souls, his smile made hollow hearts whole, but it is their voices joined as one, that made us dance till our feet turned sore. Cheers!
I only found out today, after hearing this song several times, that not only is this a song about Christ's Second Coming, but that it comes from an album written with heavy influence by the works of C.S. Lewis. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
@@charlieseely3464 "there will come a ruler, whose brow is laid in thorn. Smeared with oil like David's boy" Both of these directly pertain to Jesus and events that occurred at the end and beginning of his life, respectively.

Was introduced to this song by the VA of Venti in genshin, and I love to see all the different interpretations of it, Colm as always crushing it and to have Rachel here too is just amazing! Please keep up the great work.
I just wanna say, listening to all these tracks you've made has caused me to buy an Irish Bouzouki. I don't know how to play stringed instruments, but I'm gonna learn this one, damn it
I’ve been hearing this song EVERYWHERE and while the original is really pretty, I’m happy you finally decided to to a cover!! Always love Colabs, and I know I’m going to love it regardless. Thank you Colm and Rachel!!
JUST about Jesus, not David. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, as well as what Kings were meant to be. He is the fulfillment because He is God. He is warrior, poet, priest, king, and conquerer.
This song makes me happy like nothing else. It’s a special kind of happy. Like I’m jaunting down a path through the lush grass, flowers on both sides, with God behind me, like a father watching over his son. I like this song.
I hope this isn’t the only one from the Oh Hellos, even just the album this one comes from has some magnificent pieces. i’m rather fond of Thus Always to Tyrants, Pale White Horse, Where is Your Rider and of course Soldier, Poet, King.
Fun fact, the Soldier, Poet, King in this song is Jesus, hence the reference to the crown of thorns and David in the last verse. Also, when it says he will slay you with his tounge, it means it quite literally, look up the battle of Armageddon.
Am I the only one mildly uncomfortable that an overtly Christian song from an overtly Christian album got picked up by a bunch of otherwise secular zoomers who throw it around like it's just generic fantasy music? I felt the same way about Lord of the Dance back in the day.
@@MaraW1832 To be honest, it does have that fantasy vibe. Even I, knowing the true meaning of the song and loving the song more because of it, picture an Elf princess dancing in a field of daisies with ruins in the background.

I discovered this song recently, and now I love listening to it, and so I looked for a cover and I found this amazing! Simply fantastic, the two of them singing to the sounds of the instruments
you two absolutely smashed the harmonies on this!! such a gorgeous cover!! an unexpected release after all the workers songs and metal as of late, but very much enjoyed 🧡 can't wait to see what's next!

What a jolly song. Gives warm fuzzy feelings until you listen to the lyrics. A warrior/ruler/poet/musician who sends his army into a city and ravages it. Massacres have never been this jolly. Love the tune. The Oh Hellos was fantastic and this cover is also epic!
Looking forward to this, even if colm is mainly instrumentals. What you think of covering "hells coming with me" by poor man's poison? Or maybe Stan Rogers the Mary Ellen Carter? :) Cheers!
My great grandfather is in the cowboy hall of fame. When he retired from running cattle, he worked for the sheriff in San Antonio. He was once dealing with a group of rustler…alone, ran out if ammo and held them off throwing rocks until help came. He was a small man but tough and not be mess with!
This is one of my new favorites!!!! Well done Rachel and Colm. Also could you please do Yurgen’s tune from the Wingfeather Saga???? God Bless you both :)
Such a great cover! The Oh Hellos are such a tricky band to cover given their instrumentation is practically a folk orchestra and I've never found a cover that sounds as comfortable in the rhythm of the song as yours (most people try to force it into 3/4 or 4/4 but I'd say it's in 6/8 (or 12/8) which is perfect for a jig). In both cases, your talents are extremely well-suited to it. Stunning musicianship, the both of you!
😂 this is awesome. I was listening to various versions of this song on Apple Music the other day, and saw this one and was like “how did I miss this Collab? I don’t remember seeing it before”. I see now why I’d missed it.

"Soldier, Poet, King" is a song by the indie-folk band The Oh Hellos, released on their 2015 album Dear Wormwood. The song features a haunting, fable-like sound with layered vocals and instrumentation reflecting its complex lyrical themes. Inspired by theological writings of C.S. Lewis, it presents a metaphorical tale about three archetypes - the soldier, the poet, and the king - exploring ideas of power, sacrifice, and legacy. While not a mainstream pop hit, the song gained significant attention through online communities for its evocative storytelling and allegorical nature, leading to numerous covers, analyses, and fan-made interpretations.
