This is beautiful! I've loved this song for years. It almost beats Passerine! It does an excellent job illustrating the many roles of Christ. I can't believe how amazing your art style is either! Thank you so much for the hope this song has brought me. (psst, I also really like Passerine!)
My jumping spider, Xanathar, loved watching this video, when the three danced together he would always get very excited and just a couple days ago he watched it on loop for hours on end without losing attention. He passed away last night from old age and I came back to listen to his favorite song a few more times for him. I have fairly severe arachnophobia but for some reason he was the one spider that I was never scared of, he liked anime, fantasy movies, and music just like me and I'll miss him more than I realized.

I found your band through the many animation memes of "Soldier, Poet, King". I went through your entire "Dear Wormwood" album one afternoon and just kept listening. This year, the Oh Hellos is my second most-listened-to band on Spotify. Both for me and my sister. Thank you for creating such amazing music and I wish you all the best in your future! ❤
@@elsieprempeh Yes, most of his songs are Christian, if I'm not mistaken, they are all christian, but this one says about the King David, that he was literally a Sodier, poet and a King! (Says a lot about Jesus too)
@@heloisa2002You’re pretty much right, but I’m quite sure it’s about Jesus mainly and has resemblance to David because Jesus had similarities with his ancestor David. It says “smeared with oil like David’s boy”, obviously referring to someone other than David if it’s his “boy”. This refers to how in prophecy and in the genealogies listed in two of the gospels, Jesus is the descendant of David. It also says “there will come” throughout the song. This can be seen as reflective of either the prophecies telling of Jesus’ coming before his birth, or as referring to the second coming which is still in the future. I hope that makes sense!

I was just relistening to Dear Wormwood a ton for the past few weeks, and even mentioned "Soldier, Poet, King" to some of my friends the other day being a song that goes beyond the scope of the concept album. This is truly a surprise and I love every moment of it! I do thought that this will also lead to a remaster of the entire Dear Wormwood album, but this alone is truly amazing. Sure hope to hear more from you guys soon! By the way, the art in this is majestically created! You don't have to go overboard with a lyric video, but this is something more. You guys are truly amazing :)
This animation is so good! I could never make something like this and i have the whole song memorised, i also loved the symbolism when the 3 figures came and danced together, it represents the perichoresis or ‘Trinity Dance’ in an incredible way.
@@AmberRedspark im not entirely sure about the other symbolism of it but is clear that its at the very least about Jesus. When they said "there will come a ruler whos brow is laid in thorn." Thats clearly a reference to Jesus.
@@joshuacrate827I guess if you take it at face value. I figured it used Christ imagery to paint a picture of someone who wears the world on their shoulders. A crown of thorns is a common metaphor for putting oneself last; sacrificing their well being for the "people" or whatever. Surface level, yeah it's Jesus but that's not very exciting or interesting. Christ imagery however, never gets old.
@@joshuacrate827The song is based on the C.S Lewis Screwtapes, which speak of the return of Christ. Which in turn for the believer, despite the graphic and apocalyptical end, rejoice at his coming and cleansing of the world of sin. While on the other hand the song is disturbing as despite the cheery mood of the song it talks about the returning of the messiah (David's Boy, Anointed in Oil) will come to slay the wicked with his tongue (He will come to judge the living and the dead) coming to destroy cities with a giant sword (to imprison and destroy his enemies.)
This song led me to The Valley and Dear Wormwood as well as the rest of your music. I love this feeling you capture, though I have no clue what your genre is even called. Both of the aforementioned albums have brought me peace, clarity, healing, inspiration, and (most influentially) closure regarding my religious trauma. Thank you for putting such beauty into the world. This little animation perfectly captures how I first imagined it in my head. Plus with the three little guys looking exactly the same, it helps allude to the original meaning of the song. Brilliantly done! ❤❤❤
If you want an album series about people coming to peace with their experience of western Christianity, you *NEED* to listen to their Four Winds quartet. Like, immediately. Notos, Eureus, Boreas, and Zephyrus are the four EPs, and the set is just over an hour long. A major theme of the album, and quite possibly the main theme, is the singers' journeys through a spiritual reconstruction after seeing the harm that Christians had caused in the world, crying out for change, and finding new peace. It's absolutely magnificent, and I only found out about it this month, but I must've listened to it half a dozen times by now. My favourite song in the set is Zephyrus, but if you have religious trauma, please PLEASE go listen to Passerine! But honestly, you might love the whole thing. To quote the band's page, it was an "interrogation of [their] own beliefs", and how they wanted to "ask the winter to rekindle [them] into something warmer and softer than who they've been". It's incredible. Anyway... I think folk is the main genre. I've heard people saying indie folk and folk rock both fit.
@@MedorraBlueI’ve listened to Zephyrus. It was a recommendation for one of my Spotify playlists. I haven’t given the whole thing a listen yet, though, so thanks for letting me know. I can’t wait to hear it now!
I've loved this song for the longest time, and I am in love with this video as well!! The art is so lovely and a fun visual to go with the song, and the three of them dancing together at the end of the song brought me so much joy!!! Thank you so much for this
I find it very interesting how such a heavily Christian song jives so well with the the Medieval/Hi-Fantasy crowd. I guess its just Christ's love shinning through even if you don't know or realize it. It definitely still fits the vibes of a bunch of adventurers going out and fighting off some monster or exploring some magical world and saving the world from some powerful enemy and knowing the meaning behind the words just makes me enjoy it even more.
Yeah, definitely that and not because it's folk style music which inherently tends to mesh into a fantasy or medieval vibe 😂 (In case you can't tell, that was sarcasm. People can like stuff that fits a vibe without it being due to a diety they might not believe in "shinging through even if they don't know it". Thats seriously the most conceited and condescending kind of statement imaginable. People dont need to be infantalized just because they dont believe the same stuff you do.
All the memories of this song.. The animation memes.. The covers.. Heck, even the song itself! Just to he overrun by a bard named "Venti" over there in TikTok. I'm staying here :)

Why do I feel like this is a princess walking with her bodyguards like a princess singing this while her bodyguards are protecting her while she's walking
You are a travelling historian, seeking stories in ruins and destruction. You came upon a town, it looks dirty, poor and destitute but the village folks still welcome you with a smile and enthusiasm greater than the residents of a bigger city you've been through. 'Certainly suspicious' you said to yourself while walking into the town with a smile on your face and vigilance in your heart. You can remember that this region was held by a tyrant king, abusing his power to bleed dry every town and village their coffees, more like a bandit if you ask me. As you walked around the village, you noticed that dusk was close and decided to head into the sole tavern of this place. As you're about to open the tavern door, you hear a lot of voices inside, I know it's not unusual for a tavern to be noisy, but no, they are singing, happily. I walked in and saw what looked like a band singing and playing their instruments in the middle of the tavern, singing a song I've never heard while the villagers sang along. I shrugged and walked to the counter to order a meal and a place to stay for the moment. As I continued listening to the song, I couldn't help but notice the instruments the band members were using. They're quite unusual for a simple band. The only lady in their group was using a harp, a man with great stature and height was using a bag-pipe and the last man, or I might even say, a boy, is using a violin embroidered with grand designs. As the curiosity got to me, I asked the tavern keeper about who they are. The answer really baffled me, The boy was the crown prince before and usurper took the throne, the huge man was the royal advisor and the prince's teacher for music and instruments and the lady was the only remaining knight of those few who helped the prince escape the sacking of the palace. The song they're singing is not about the usurper, it is about the return of the young king with his companion, and this is also the reason why the people of this village were always happy even with their circumstances, they still have hope. You're an historian, looking through the stories of ruins and destruction to find the history of the land. Maybe you can join them? For what better things an historian might do, other than creating history himself?
Damn I recommend getting recommended and liking this before it went as viral as it did. Good job. It certainly did more than I ever beloved from this passionate.

Thank you so much for your music!! For years now, you’ve been my favourite musicians, and you’ve helped me through so much! Your music means the world to me, and I hope that you eventually make more for everyone to enjoy!
The animation is beautiful!! Could you do some of your other songs too please? ❤
this song makes me so happy it makes me finally feel like i’m in a fairytale
I remember watching the animation memes when they first came out and falling in love with the Oh Hellos. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without their music.

This was my introduction to listening to your music in the first place.
And every time I listen to this song, I feel like hiking on an adventure.
Or even going on a Renaissance fair at some point.
You guys have so much variety with your unique style of rhythm in your music.
This is beautiful! I've loved this song for years. It almost beats Passerine! It does an excellent job illustrating the many roles of Christ. I can't believe how amazing your art style is either! Thank you so much for the hope this song has brought me. (psst, I also really like Passerine!)

When I heard the song, my mind and heart is filled with creative ,imaginary and joy.
The king is coming!
I'm crying this was perfect!!
I love how you post during October, around this time, because it's close to my birthday and it always brings my such immense joy to see new content from you! Your art and songs have inspired me through the years and helped me in my darkest moments.
I can only Thank you ❤
I'm so excited for you! Your songs are amazing and it was so exciting to see that "Soldier, Poet, King" has an official music video!
Did I send this to my aunt who has a kid who’s almost 4 because this is the perfect little fantasy story in a song? Yes. I absolutely did.
One of my favorite CHRISTIAN songs!! It’s just so cozy sounding and I’m really happy with how much people love this song too
I just love how their songs have a christian and gospel message! Continue doing this!! 🤍
Really?! I'm so happy OMDS, do you know what the meaning is??
@@elsieprempeh Yes, most of his songs are Christian, if I'm not mistaken, they are all christian, but this one says about the King David, that he was literally a Sodier, poet and a King! (Says a lot about Jesus too)
@@heloisa2002 I'm so happy to find a new gospel song! Thanks so much for sharing:)
@@zekofirez39 Tysm! I love the meaning
the little guys just spinning at the end is so cute!! i love this whole thing, very children's tale vibes! i am no more different from a whole group of other people, discovering you guys from this very song. then a silly little fanfiction made me curious about you two so i came here and now im completely obsessed with your songs! love you guys to the end of life, always, keep going ❤❤
I could never make something like this and i have the whole song memorised, i also loved the symbolism when the 3 figures came and danced together, it represents the perichoresis or ‘Trinity Dance’ in an incredible way.
i didn't know this song was about the 2nd coming of Christ, but it makes this song even cooler!!! love this song!!
Where did you see it was about the 2nd coming of Christ? I wanna know more, lol :D
I think folk rock is a good descriptor.
Este estilo es tan vuestro, me encanta 🫶🏻
I've loved this song for the longest time, and I am in love with this video as well!! The art is so lovely and a fun visual to go with the song, and the three of them dancing together at the end of the song brought me so much joy!!! Thank you so much for this
I find it very interesting how such a heavily Christian song jives so well with the the Medieval/Hi-Fantasy crowd. I guess its just Christ's love shinning through even if you don't know or realize it.
It definitely still fits the vibes of a bunch of adventurers going out and fighting off some monster or exploring some magical world and saving the world from some powerful enemy and knowing the meaning behind the words just makes me enjoy it even more.
it's also the fact that it sounds medieval/high fantasy I think. A lot of their songs from this album do.
I’m Christian AND I LOVE THIS SONG
Yeah, definitely that and not because it's folk style music which inherently tends to mesh into a fantasy or medieval vibe 😂
(In case you can't tell, that was sarcasm. People can like stuff that fits a vibe without it being due to a diety they might not believe in "shinging through even if they don't know it". Thats seriously the most conceited and condescending kind of statement imaginable. People dont need to be infantalized just because they dont believe the same stuff you do.
all your music literally means the world to me

Why do I feel like this is a princess walking with her bodyguards like a princess singing this while her bodyguards are protecting her while she's walking
nah it's about Jesus christ
