I am 55 and experienced this band as Warsaw, then Joy Division then New Order... and I wish I had not .. just so I could do it all again.. I have all their originals on Vinyl.
56 year old here. Found Joy Division right after Curtis died but before new order. Not great timing. Loved New Order at first listen. They are aging very well
you listened to Warsaw, then Joy Division ??!? and you're 55 ... hahaha ! so if you are 55, you were 11 years-old and living in Greater Manchester to get to know Warsaw. hahaha !!!! cos except a few lads in Manchester, no one knew Warsaw.
There are songs that make you immediately sit up when you hear them the first time. Someone's key meet the lock to your psyche. This is one of those songs.
Any time someone says Peter Hook can't sing, I point to this song. Put him in the studio under the same conditions Bernard or Ian worked under, and he sings just fine.
At that point of my life right now...just cant be assed to open the door...so much shit piled up behind it..I know you can push and get passed it...but still needs cleanning up
Blessed are those who have been able to witness what I consider a secular event. From the fleeting rise of Joy Division to the center of the Manchester scene and the terrible death of the enormous Ian Curtis to this totemic, strong, unwavering song. A hymn of all times, welcome to the time where man must forge his own destiny beyond the inconsistencies of the system. Thank you for being around, Ian and New Order.
the marriage of bassline and overlaid guitar on this track is just sublime. throw the percussion of the master over the top - the best track on the album. Easily.
He sounds a lot more like Ian than Bernard does. I'm pretty sure they were also trying to mimick the sound of Ian when they made this album. In my eyes, this is a Joy Division album.
I saw New Order live at Merriweather Pavilion in Maryland. I had really good seats with my friend. He'd never even heard a New Order song. After the show he went out and bought every Joy Division and New Order album. Like I did haha!
sure. go to a Hook gig now. and you will have your answer. he is a terrible singer !!!! it works okaaaayyyy on the this one, in the ..... studio !!! but hell no, he's very bad singer.
@@gilles.leguenand that's fine. But he still could've once in a while and it wouldn't hurt a thing: Barney's voice isn't exactly pristine then or now...but both are unique and in that uniqueness offer something offbeat & unusual And what's wrong with that ?
My promise could be your fiend A given end to your dreams A simple movement or rhyme Could be the smallest of signs We'll never know what they are or care In its escapable view There's no escape, so few in fear Give in a changing value To be given your sight Hid in a long peaceful night A nervous bride for your eyes A fractured smile that soon dies A love that's wrong from your life and soul A savage mine had begun Hello, farewell to your love and soul Hello, farewell to your soul Now I know what those hands would do No looking back now, we're pushing through We'll change these feelings, we'll taste and see But never guess how the 'Him' would scream But never guess how the 'Him' would scream But never guess how the 'Him' would scream
@@patricktimothy8354 All of the online lyrics are wrong, with occasional hits and many misses. Hooky sings it differently or just forgets and mixes up the order of the lines. Here's my best guess on the 'right' lyrics after listening for decades (as well) but also listening to several versions at 3/4 or 1/2 speed (a nice YT feature: give it a try, esp on the Peel show version): My promise could be your theme A given end to your dreams A simple movement or rhyme Could be the smallest of signs We'll never know what they are or care An empty statement or view There's no escape so few in fear
Day made a change in value To be given your sight Hid in a warm peaceful night A nervous bride for your eyes A fractured smile that soon dies A laugh which rung from your life and so (grammatically, this should be "rang" but we'll let them off the Hook. Get it?) A savage mind had begun A long farewell to your love and so A long farewell to your soul Now I know what was meant to do No looking back now or pushing through Could change these things in taste or scene Could never guess now but it would scream Could never guess now but it would scream Could never guess now but it would scream
When records came out in Japan someone would do a phonetic translation of the lyrics (who obviously didn't speak English very well) and then translate that into Japanese for the lyric sheet (despite the UK/US pressings lacking one). So they were just guesses. A few of the online DNE lyrics seem like they might have come from there.
My dads favourite band is new order, my favourite band is new order, and even with our frequent listening to them, we only heard this song a few days ago is, and it’s shot to our all time favourites
I was lucky with my ex. I was waited that 20 years. She witnessed, even she wasn't very familiar with NO, something she won't never forgot. I know that. I walked 50cm above from ground that becoming next week. Or more...
Was thinking of this song today. I like to listen to it when I run. Have been doing so for 30+ years. iPod so much batter than carrying an 80's tape player.
Turret Gunner music....one of my best jams rocking a 240 on top of an MTV. Timeless Classic. New Order and The Cure are the best to listen to when youre in the shit
the intro is a slight hint of joy divsion melting together with sonic youth into the curem which then turns into new order. nohting short than brilliant by the band, that could have easily be smashed into oblivion by ians death.
This track starts off cloudy.. But that soon clears away for the sunshine..broken joy division looking towards a positive future as new order.. Thats my interpretation of the track anyways
*Chasing the Moon* Who is the true master? Is it the gods, music, poetry, and knowledge, or is it the artisan, the craftsman, the scientist, and the engineer? Do the artisans chase the gods or do the gods chase the artisans?
😮ian was a tough act to follow, but Barney was/is a fantastic singer in his own right. for instance Bizarre Love Triangle is one of the best songs in rock history. 😂

Where one story ended, another began.

I hope Ian is glad that the band continued to play

Never too late to discover Joy Division/New Order.

That opening twangy guitar is just pure badass.

Awesome tune. The way it builds and builds at the start and Hooky's voice is great 👍🏼
Truth: really wish he'd stepped into that role more often.

Proof that Ian wasn't the only literate member of the band. This is loss summed up perfectly
the bass line makes me feel feelings

I can hear Steve Coogan as Tony Wilson, reciting what you just wrote in my head.
This song always puts me in a good mood

I bought this record in 1981 when it came out. Even today it remains among my top 5!
38 years ago! Crazy

Robert Smith agrees with this statement
I'm obsessed with this song... Since 1984 when I first heard it.
I absolutely adore them. One of the best bands ever, hands down!

Peter Hook on Vocals ! 🎤
David Ellis Is it my ears or his voice resembles very much Ian's?
