    I found the forest path kind of terrifying, with all the ice, no handrails, and a steep drop... and you can actually stay in that hotel (Jigokudani Hot Spring Korakukan), by the way. Or just drop by and hop into the rotenburo for a few hundred yen. You may have to chase the monkeys out first, though (well, actually they left on their own when our group came out), and you're kinda exposing yourself to people on their way to the monkey park... you can also eat there, they make decent Soba. The facilities are slightly dated, though, so you may be better off with one of the fancier inns closer to the city.

    • @seerasan
      @seerasan  Год назад +4

      Oh wow I had no idea you could go inside that onsen even without staying the night. I'm tempted to try that next time I go.. but will have to see what it's like. Big soba fan so even just dropping by for lunch would be nice. Thanks for the helpful info!

    Canon R3 and 28-70f2.0L. Just a casual AUD$12K upgrade. No big deal. Charge it to my Suica xD
    Went there with a tour group and put my action cam down next to the water and caught a curious baby monkey about to grab it. I think it's the first vid I ever uploaded to YT (shameless plug). Now I really want to go back to experience the hot chocolate.

      That's so much for a lens that can't even reach far. :(

    In 2017, I was in Nagano all ready to see the *ahem* Nihon Zaru - but there was a sudden snow storm, so the next day I was told the path was all covered with snow, so it was closed for a few days. I ran out of time, and had to leave, so I'm looking forward to going next time I'm in Japan. :)

      Those lenses are great for grabbing a shot or video at a distance, but they're sooo heavy and a pain to travel with.
      Get a tall thermos, fill it with lead, and carry it around for a week. lolnThey're delicate too, so it's like having a baby with you, and you can't...just throw your bag down. You gotta be all gentle.
      I bought a 100-400mm lens a few months ago, and it went from, 'This is so awesome!,' to the Star Wars 'What have I done?!' meme.

    I visited the monkeys in March of 2019 and while there was snow on the ground, the pathway to the monkeys was wet and muddy. Did a day trip from Tokyo and it was totally worth it... I enjoyed seeing and taking photos of the monkeys.

    I was there with friends in April 2016. I remember the signs about not showing any food and not using selfie sticks. A funny moment was when one the handlers brought a treat (apple?) to one of the monkeys, it literally pooped as it stood up to get the treat lol, I guess it got a little excited. It was pretty cool visiting a location that had fascinated me through images and videos I had seen over the years. I'd also recommend visiting the monkey parks in Kyoto and in the Beppu area of Kyushu.

    • @seerasan
      @seerasan  Год назад +2

      hahaha that is funny! I've been to the Kyoto one before, but didn't know Beppu had it's own one too!

    • @phillydisco
      @phillydisco Год назад +1

      @@seerasan It's called Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden. When I went to Beppu JR station, they actually had a combination bus pass and entry fee for that park and the Oita Marine Palace (Aquarium) which is across the street, so I checked out both. That was in 2019, though. Not as much walking to see the monkeys at this park, like the Kyoto or Nagano ones. And there are a LOT of them at this park, more than at the other two combined.

    I don't know if I would trust another human who told me that it feels good to immerse yourself in super heated spring water like a coddled egg. Admittedly I'm not too resilient in the heat.
    But I will take a monkey's word for it. They just seem to know what works.

    I think you should narrate a wildlife documentary. With a couple of random "hi, mom"s in it :D This is my favourite video of yours, just a silly goose monkey time. 🐒Growing up in a country that has too much snow and now living in a place where it barely snows, I don't miss a thing about winter. But you really captured the joy of a hike on a sunny winter day. Brings some good memories. Thanks :)
