Him and the guy that was in charge in feeding the animals, he was so attached and emotionally invested in the animals. He seemed healthy and sober throughout the documentary but as soon as it shows him in the last episode he looks submerged in heroin or pills he could barely stay awake 😕 he lost his sense of worth when that place shut down.

I really hope that Saff finds happiness and success in his life. Saff & Reinke were the most genuine people in the documentary. He seems to truly care for people, but especially the animals. I just hope the rest of his life is more fair to him than his past...he really deserves it. Kudos to David for having him on!

It was hers as well. They were married for decades and she brought in as much as he did when they were in the business of selling big cats. He had nothing to do with exotic animals before he hooked up with her. The show was very clearly slanted against her and made her out to be something she wasn’t. Her husband was going senile, used to take shits in random places and wasn’t always coherent. Could’ve easily taken off on his little plane (that he lost his license for immediately after getting it) and crashed in the ocean between Florida and his sidepiece in Costa Rica. They didn’t interview anyone who backed her up. They picked and chose to make a compelling storyline.

I want to point out that David Spade handled this interview with real empathy for a guest he could have taken advantage of, yet he still made a funny and interesting episode. This is why people love him - he’s hilarious but first and foremost he’s kind.

I watched this a few months ago and rewatching it I think Spade is definitely going for comedy, which is what he does. He has obviously done interviews in the past, but mostly with comedians. I think interviewing someone seriously is just the slightest bit out of his realm. I mean he does a fine job, and I love him, but he keeps going to the jokes and Saff just wants to talk.

I don't think interviews pay normally.. most times to used to build a brand for yourself or platform and you use the publicity and exposure from it to drive what ever else you got going....that's why people do them when they got a movie/ book or music coming out...
saff, cowie, and reinke all seemed like they were the only ones that cared about those poor tigers and other animals. cowie and reinke got a little crazy at the end, but still seemed decent. i'm so glad saff is out of that place.

Reinke and saff yes they were genuine, good to the animals and loyal to the end. I think cowie was ok to the animals but a total douche bag to turn on joe after giving him a job when he was homeless and jobless before it looked like at the end of the doc that he regretted his decision and he looked like he was on drugs or something.
Joe Sudz I know he testified against joe but I don’t know what for or even if he was happy or not by the verdict in the end. In all honesty I couldn’t understand anything he said in the whole documentary 😂 just that he was homeless before he got a job with the zoo and that he testified against joe I didn’t understand anything else when he spoke.
This interview could have never happened on his regular show. There would be too much pausing for the audience laughter and commercial breaks...it would have been something entirely different. This works for Spade.
