Critical and pivotal discussion! I'll be sitting down and sharing it with my kids.
And I too hang on Haviv's every word. He always makes me smarter.

I've heard this story about the Harvard law student twice before, and still, I'm choked up by it. That's what profound truth sounds like - not just the truth of the history but the truth of ignorance and the need to combat it.
In the news cycle of the last 24 hours (9/28/24) I didn't think I'd be able to focus on a two-week-old conversation, but once Haviv gets going my attention is riveted. Invariably.

Wonderful interview and excellent monologue at the end. Our Jewish particularism has fallen out of balance with our humanist, universalist values. If not now, when? If not us, who?

I wish the American administration (among others) let Haviv help set its ME policy.

Thank you for this wonderful podcast. Agree or disagree, this brought me so much calm and clarity in face of all the hatred and ignorance spewed around the world. I feel like I am at home, safe and thinking on my own rather than reacting. Thank you.

Mohammed's empire was lost 4 centuries ago, but the Ottoman Empire was lost during WW1. I think Muslims resent the loss of both these empires. With 2 billion, their defeats at the hands of Israel shame them & stir up antagonism, but unfortunately, self reflection seems to be minuscule. I know there are Muslim moderates but they seem to be very few at this time. I know of lots of exMuslim RUclipsrs w valid criticisms; some from Pakistan, or Turkey, & not neighbors of Israel. I used to give Muslims every benefit of the doubt, but exMuslim RUclipsrs have convinced me that Islam, in general, is in a very dark place right now; poor nondemocratic countries & terrorist Jihadhis. How awful for moderate Muslims . . . .

Oh my God. I have tried to listen to this man talking hoping that I could understand better the Jewish perspective. I was married to a Jew, knew my in-laws very well and have always been very anti anti semitic and very pro Jewish, if there is such a thing, but I had never had to give the the whole question of Israel and Palestine as much thought and research as in the last 11 months. What the world can see, I believe, is that both Jews and Muslims, those who are deeply invested in their religion, are two sides of the same coin. What this man says about Muslims, the very same thing can be said of Jews today. There is mass psychosis on both sides brought about by fundamentalist religion. The Founders of the US got a few things wrong but boy did they get it right when they saw that humanity needed to learn to separate church and state. This is a mess and this man added no clarity whatsoever. I'm going back to Norman Finkelstein. He speaks the truth and he speaks from a broken heart.

Norman Finkelstein, Seriously? Norman is a psychopath parading himself as an expert and professor who knows nothing about the events happening in the Middle East. Norman supports the Houthi terrorists, the Hamas butchers, and every other murderer out there. Please!
