People are so quick to comment and put these guys down from the comfort of their arm chair, but most wouldn't have a clue how to modify a toilet roll let alone do a conversion like this.
Blows my mind how old the video is & when you think about it the engine is even newer then so it really makes it even crazier. What a beast that engine is . Rev monster !
Jeez, what a lot of angry cynical people out there, lighten up and enjoy youtube, it's here for our enjoyment and enlightenment, this is a good vid, can you do any better ???
Yes. the 4.7 is a cast block, I have one in my Tundra. But they have many similarities to the 1UZFE. All I am trying to say is it all started with the 1UZ and went from there. if you look at any of them they share similar designs heritage. Not sure why were arguing here. I agree its a great engine for the boat.
I have been looking for you for ages sir. What modifications did you make to the engine? Could the auto transmission be used for a surface drive? those require independet transmissions. Whats the fuel consumption look like? I have the need to put a car engine into a boat and the 1uz is the cheapest thing for the power, reliability and availability
Both you and MickNJ1979 are right. People have been using car motors in boats for a long time and most of the time the RPM's aren't very high. Like 3000ish RPM's. However, you can't run high RPM's in those motors for long periods of time.5000+ It would be like doing 80 mph on the freeway, in 2nd gear. We have 2 boats. One has a chevy 350, the other has a 150 outboard. Both have a similar top speed, but we would never run that 350 at top end for a 5 mile stretch whereas, the outboard, we do often
Hi, Sorry, I'm from Argentina. I want to install Megasquirt on my boat. now my boat has carburetor. Your boat has drawbacks after the reform? As does your solucionaste the disadvantage of the sensor in the exhaust? thank you very much
Stock they are about 260 crank HP, assuming it's an earlier model aluminum block from an LS400 or GS400. Pretty sure I've seen this video around and I THINK that is where the engine was from, but I may be confusing it with a different 1UZ powered boat.
Well, this is the first start ever, running a custom made Megasquirt based system. It is being mapped while attempting the first start, so, i actually think its quite decent for a first start-up.
@Themrjakecollins Thats the exhaust, the headers are water cooled, water gets sucked in(in the ocean) or in this case coz its in dry dock a water hose is connected and the water cools the exhaust system and engine, then it exits out the exhaust with the engine gases.
WELL DONE Poster! You are now my mentor to have my dream comw true; I have a 2000 Solara with a 3.0 V6 1MZFE. The main reason I keep this car, as it kicks my ass every time I work on it, is because it is a poor man's sports car. You better be in a corvette, mustang, b4, or callenger to be me off the line or from 20 mph to 80 mph. I love blowing turboed 4-cylinder joke engines away all the time. 91 Octane Gas 10.5:1 compression ratio was the firmula of testeryear domestics. Yet, this 1MZFE feels like it has more than 200 HP and it is 20 years old 176.5k miles! A video like makes me think my dream can come true that to have a Toyota 3.0 V6 in a boat. With the 3.27" or so stroke, it could probably cruise at 4,000 RPM. But where to get a secondary drive that will bolt up to it? What rartio do I get: 3.0:1.:...? What pitch propeller?
anyone who is skeptical about this motor in a boat, go read up on the initial testing toyota did for the 1uz. this is easily one of the most bulletproof engines out there. i work at a lexus/toyota dealership as a tech, and i see more than one of these with more than 350,000kms, most driven year round through -40 winters, +40 summers.
The little boat is very cool not bashing japanese v8's - I own a v8 titan. Im curious where one would get marine parts for a lexus v8 -like headers- as boat headers are almost always water cooled Is the boat exhaust dry?
Good advise, but no need for a boat shop. The guy with the throttle in the video rebuilt the entire jet drive himself, before the engine was put into the boat. It was originally made for much less power. See the billet aluminum center section of the drive which reveals the drive is not stock anymore. Im quite sure no boat shop has parts for it anymore, but the owner can fix it himself. I only made the engine control unit and adjusted it. expencive in Denmark.
Yes but those are all derived from the 1UZFE.. and they were not made all at the same time... but one after the other. The pushrod engine is not used on the street.
The only V8 Lexus/Toyota makes goes into the Toyota Tundra, and Lexus LS400/430/460 The original LS400 had a 4Liter V8 4cams 32valves. designated the 1UZFE made 250HP. They were VERY good engines... 4 bolt mains, and overall very overbuilt. There are some out there making over 1000HP. The engine was all aluminum.. so it should be light.. good in a boat. Really good engine.
i would love to drop 1UZ into a boat! what precautions do you take to prevent electrical problems? This is the reason why most boats are carbureted, correct? it's funny how many people believe chevy v8's would work better in ANY application. not to mention how light weight they are....
V8s are great for speedboats because they make big torque and you want lower prop speeds and high pitch props and huge torque to get speed in heavier V bottom offshore type boats anyhow. That's why they all have V8s. High prop speed is for hydroplanes...not regular boats.
Actually almost all Marine exhaust is wet, imco, cmi, eddie, stellings, stainless marine, lightning etc. Its wet because dry is VERY loud and unde rthe hatch temps get really high with dry exhaust. Its also really hard to make well and not leak hence my questions to the poster about where he got an exhaust system for a lexus. marine headers are really critical hence my comment about a SBC or BBC being a far better choice- not as exotic but waay better for parts than a lexus in a marine app
Yeah, because people don't drive cars on the interstates at 80 mph for long periods. /sarcasm People have been using car engines in boats forever. Most guys never get them above half RPMs for long periods either.
Does sound good - hard to beat a carb though. The benefit of running oldschool means you can always get it going again no matter how far up the river you are. Choppers are f****ing expensive, and no one likes leaving their boat behind...
V6? When it sounds like a V8, it SAYS V8 in big, block letters, WTF! Why do such clueless people bother to comment? Damn things sound really good, with a 4-valve OHC arrangement on that little thing it should move along pretty nice! Any idea what kind of HP it's making?
Wow, I had no idea the 1UZ could be so responsive. I love these motors. I'm also amazed at how ignorant a lot of these comments are! Educate yourselves before commenting, people...
The stock 1UZ (if that's what he used) I have in my LS400 is rated at 260 horsepower. I'm sure this guy's done a little work to her, so I think a decent estimate is around 300 horses. Who knows, could be totally wrong.
Pretty sure the 90-94 LS400 was making 250HP, the original engine was lower compession and a Non interference design (meaing the valves don't hit the pistons if the timing belt breaks) But in 95 they upped the compression, and it became an interference engine then... and your right it was making 290HP.
that a very good engine i know i drive one a 95 ls 400 and that engine has so much torque and gobs of it and will nothing will let it slow down. if you run lubro moly volsythese that engine will runn forever i promise but changing the starter is not fun.
mhmm, normally it picks it up from the body of water it sits in, but out of water it needs an external source. now i'm wondering how that aluminum block is gonna react to using salt water for cooling in the future
@jaratt85 sc300/400 are proper sport cars. the engine for this boat was a 1uz-fe engine parted out from an sc400. if anything a supra and a sc400 is a pseudo muscle car
Somewhere there is a Lexus with a boat engine in it.
nitroman365 most likely lolll 😂
Life od has it
SB CHEVY IS IN EVERYTHING .....
People are so quick to comment and put these guys down from the comfort of their arm chair, but most wouldn't have a clue how to modify a toilet roll let alone do a conversion like this.
best comment!
I have extensive experience in toilet roll modification!
Lmao modify a toilet roll
Well said
I salute you sir 😎
You got that exactly right.
That thing sounds healthy and happy to rev, nice!
Awesome engines. Dad had a 92 ls400. Quick as a 5.0 mustang, yet reliable and luxurious
Blows my mind how old the video is & when you think about it the engine is even newer then so it really makes it even crazier. What a beast that engine is . Rev monster !
nice seeing megasquirt gettin it done!
Jeez, what a lot of angry cynical people out there, lighten up and enjoy youtube, it's here for our enjoyment and enlightenment, this is a good vid, can you do any better ???
sweet, alu block, hyper pistons, wanted to put one in my ford cortina - awesome stuff!
Yes. the 4.7 is a cast block, I have one in my Tundra. But they have many similarities to the 1UZFE. I've definitely thought of this... UZ is such a wonderful motor
I have been looking for you for ages sir. What modifications did you make to the engine?
Could the auto transmission be used for a surface drive? those require independet transmissions. Whats the fuel consumption look like?

Awesome,,nice work my Bro,,on the water,,, she'll go like a scolded cat,,
I dont know why but there is somthing about the water coming out of the exhausts that i love :D
my dad had a 455 rocket oldsmobile in a jet boat. worked pretty awesome. had 4 inch straight pipes
sounds amazing. just listen to that throttle response
Hi, Sorry, I'm from Argentina. I want to install Megasquirt on my boat. now my boat has carburetor. Your boat has drawbacks after the reform? As does your solucionaste the disadvantage of the sensor in the exhaust? thank you very much

Sea water runs into a water to water heat exchanger. the block is full of conventional coolant.
Lots of power for small boat I bet that thing gets up and goes man that thing sounds nice too
sounds soo good!

Bad ass! Sounds like a fkn beast

great swap guys and major props to you, pun intended. But does a car engine tuned for various rpms, have a decent application for a boat like this?
Most inboard boats run car engines.
That little v8 actually sounds pretty dope
The little boat is very cool not bashing japanese v8's - I own a v8 titan.
Im curious where one would get marine parts for a lexus v8 -like headers- as boat headers are almost always water cooled
Is the boat exhaust dry?
wd guys love to see it in action though??? how long is the boat and how much does it weigh keen to see the stats
That is awesome for a boat engine. You gave me my next project idea.
Good advise, but no need for a boat shop. The guy with the throttle in the video rebuilt the entire jet drive himself, before the engine was put into the boat. dose the water enter the manifold to cool the exhaust down and go round the block aswel ?
Don't worry about reversion...cam is not that radical where you have tremendous overlap to worry about.

sounds beautiful
Dose toyota make headers and risers for marine? What about the bellhouseing. size, bolt pattern? Is it custom built, can you buy them?
What year is that motor? it looks almost exactly like the 4.0 in a range rover but with the intake on the opposite side.
Megasquirt is awesome! Cool Project!
nice set up!
what a neat little boat what is it exactly?
Is that a pool pump for the water pump?
theres a intake port by th prop and it takes in water through a series of hosses and is put back in the water
Hi what ms system did you use?? Ms1 or ms2 /3????? I'm dropping one in a boat to. :)
Fucking beeeeeeeeeaaaaauuuuutttttiiiiifulllll sound!!! OMF
@dingdingdingdiiiiing
You're right, but it's the sound that makes these engines so awesome.
Mega squirt is seriously the best
Is it water or is it fuel, what splashes out from that exhaust?
What did you do for water cooled manifolds please?
So was the hull designed to house a V8 or did someone decide to shoehorn it in?
Either way that is an awesome boat
Awesome Toyota V8
Hello! When you changed the engine from the Essex V6, have you changed the impeller as well in the jet unit? Cheers,
Nice. Megasquirt is awesome stuff.
i would love to drop 1UZ into a boat! what precautions do you take to prevent electrical problems? This is the reason why most boats are carbureted, correct? it's funny how many people believe chevy v8's would work better in ANY application. not to mention how light weight they are....
loving it..! izzit MS-1 or MS-2?
Sound sick how fast is it on water?
nice jet boat

@sertox12345 doubt it. Those old 1uz motors are tanks. And it's original too, not a dime a dozen 350 chevy engine.
video of this beast in the water?
very revvy engine no doubt its not stock?
Hi 12 years ago, in Russia only recently it started, hello from Russia 😁
Yeah, because people don't drive cars on the interstates at 80 mph for long periods. /sarcasm
People have been using car engines in boats forever. Most guys never get them above half RPMs for long periods either.
is this the 1uz-fe? from an sc400 or toyota soarer?
Its a highly custom made ECU based on MS-1 CPU and software. Made especially for that engine.
Sounds really good!
We all need smooth power in a boat. Plus timing belts to replace and all aluminum engine in corrosive environment good all so. All for 245 hp
Does sound good - hard to beat a carb though. The benefit of running oldschool means you can always get it going again no matter how far up the river you are. Choppers are f****ing expensive, and no one likes leaving their boat behind...
Dont you have to tune your motor with a normal working load......?
that thing sounds so fkn smooth fk great job man
V6? When it sounds like a V8, it SAYS V8 in big, block letters, WTF! Why do such clueless people bother to comment? Damn things sound really good, with a 4-valve OHC arrangement on that little thing it should move along pretty nice! Any idea what kind of HP it's making?
Crazy to think people are saying this engine can’t work in a boat Lexus cerfited the 1UZ for AIRPLANES 😂 this is awesome
Hi guys have you done a video of putting the engine in?
Wow, I had no idea the 1UZ could be so responsive. I love these motors. I'm also amazed at how ignorant a lot of these comments are! Educate yourselves before commenting, people...
do you need air filter's on marine going engines?
Great Sound 😍
Revving so high with no load is probably not good for the jet pump, unless maybe it's already worn out?
what is coming out of the exhaust at the start
The stock 1UZ (if that's what he used) I have in my LS400 is rated at 260 horsepower. I'm sure this guy's done a little work to her, so I think a decent estimate is around 300 horses. Who knows, could be totally wrong.
1:15 B-e-a-utiful sound v8's
Are the best
got any video of it in the water?
why does water come out them holes ? dumb question i know but idk about boats :L
How does it do in the water?

does there have to be water goin itnto it?

where are the vids of this in the water??!!
is it the normal or the vvti engine?
mhmm, normally it picks it up from the body of water it sits in, but out of water it needs an external source. now i'm wondering how that aluminum block is gonna react to using salt water for cooling in the future
It would look alot more impressive in the water.
How did you work out the O2 sensors?
do you have a video with this in the water, would love to se how fast it went !
Nice toyota boat you should be proud!!
@jaratt85 sc300/400 are proper sport cars. the engine for this boat was a 1uz-fe engine parted out from an sc400. if anything a supra and a sc400 is a pseudo muscle car
problem with car engine in boat is they not set up to be ran at rpm for long periods of time so it wont last long
Things sounds great. How fast did you get it up to?
what kind of outdrive is on there, I dont think i've seen that style jet before
