During the moment that most see as his failure he was the only one to have battlefield awareness and realize Megatron was going for a gun. He rallied the Dinobots, he saved Kup, he recruited the Junkions and he defeated Galvatron and Unicron. Not bad for a first day.

Now every time he appears I think of him much like his G1 self, fast, fun, and always tries have the best intentions, and if he gets a Rodimus/leadership arc in place of Optimus, I'm willing to give it a chance and see where it goes. I hope there are others who've learned to let go of the "Hotrod made Optimus die" thing and try to see him as to what he really is, a well intended, stylish and fast young Autobot who always tries to have his spark be in the right place with a hidden potential for leadership.

I've always liked the idea of Punch, being loyal autobot and he did make a good spy. But the prolonged stress of the war and personality he puts up as Counterpunch, he developed a second personality. The second personality only coming out slowly during Megatron's reign whenever someone questioned him on being soft, so Punch dug deep into a dark place within him to prove the others wrong. Mortified at some of things he had to do, to his fellow autobots. He'd black out from the stress, and during Galvatron's reign as leader. That personality became more and more stronger.

Man... What a great review! Even though Punch has not so much lore... you made an incredibly interesting video about it! I will always think Punch is the real one, and Counter Punch is the disguise. I don´t think he suffers from a slip personality, that concept is interesting... but I like to think Punch is the real Autobot double Spy and Doubledealer is the decepticon one, but Doubledealer, as a good decepticon, keeps his best interests for himself.
I remember finding this toy in my legendary $20 box o' Transformers flea market find. I was pretty perplexed/impressed by it, as I had never seen or heard of a Transformer that had two robot modes, much less two allegiances. The way it came across to me in The Rebirth, is there were actually TWO characters. The Autobot Punch who can disguise himself as the Decepticon Counter-Punch, and the Decepticon Counter-Punch who can disguise himself as the Autobot Punch. So you were really getting two Transformers in one with that toy! Otherwise it wouldn't make sense for Counter-punch to say his counterpart is nearby, if there wasn't a separate character? If there really is just one guy, wouldn't the Decepticons figure that out pretty quickly? I don't know what to think. This is so crazy, haha.
I never heard of Punch until the Rebirth/Headmasters Mini series, and as a kid, I remember freaking out over the transform, but always thought he was and autobot spying on the cons, not the other way

Very interesting, and strange, but actually the split personality twist, works. It's happened to very real people, with same jobs, infiltration spies, often lose sight of themselves, and even forget what side they're on. "It's like, crazy man".
At first when you said that g1 punch/counterpunch transforms into a sports car, I was like, "wait, that car look familiar" and then I realized the design. And he actually transforms into a 1986 Pontiac fiero notchback.
Glad to see some of the newer comics getting mentioned. I don't see enough of the major reviewers touching this stuff. I loved the old IDW comics, but the new reboot is quite good in it's own right; especially the last few issues. I heard you mention that you got the Siege Rainmakers, they have a pretty prominent role in issue 23 of the new series; and the issue is something a lot of us TF fans have been waiting for a long time actually depicted. Good video! I really gotta get around to getting the Japanese Headmaster, Victory, and Masterforce series...
Fortress Maxumus is so cool - I had him for a long time but had to sell him, the money paid the rent that month. 3 feet tall. Thing was solid like a brick. The newer one looks okay, but not as cool as the original - idk guess you just like what you are used to - so Preceptor soon? Please? :D
I must say I like the original one still moast since it makes sence for him to change wappons when he transformes into the other given that diffrend part are used for the transformations and given his wappon change he would be less likely to be found out as being the other.
Who says punch can't be both I mean we as humans wear a metaphorical mask ourselves one side could be our happy joyful trustworthy side while the other is the dark angry violent manipulative and untrustworthy I like this idea for this Transformer I mean I don't MPD but this just is interesting anyway have a good day.
How nobody has done a Tyler durden inspired storyline with this guy is beyond me. Fanfics writers anybody there's an idea for you crossover fight club with transformers you have a Tyler durden
Remember Powermaster Doubler Dealer from G1? He was both Autobot/Deception but Simon Furman showed he was neither in a UK Marvel back up strip in the early 90s.
Oh so that’s why Shockwave was a double spy I. animated, as I barely new who Punch/Counter-punch was(I watched a episode of Animated before watching Rebirth)
Spies/Counter Intelligence in G1. Hubcap, BumbleB, Blaster/Twincast (JP) and the cassettes,Mirage, Hound(scout, well sort off), Jazz, Doubledealer, Soundwave/Soundblaster and the cassettes, Swindle fits his M.O., Trick Diamond and Scrounge.
I say that Punch is a real robot and Counterpunch just a disguise. And there was a Shattered Glass version of him ans he doesn't count I add him in Counterpunch is a real robot for the Good Decepticon side as a and Punch is a disguise of the evil Autobot. We need morw Autobot and Decepticon spys in the future and him or them back as well thanks for the video. Megatron: That Decepticon is a Autobot spy. Optimus Prime: That Autobot is a Con spy.
I like to think he’s a mercenary who uses his split personalities as a way to maximize profits, each one only taking jobs from either faction depending on the personality in charge
It's a crime we never got a TFA version. His alternate personality could have been a result of triple-changer technology forced upon him by the Decepticons to make him an unknowing double-agent for them. Whether or not he gets a second alt mode for Counterpunch, idk. Maybe a monster truck version of Punch's alt mode 🤷♂️
I call him a reverse triple changer. 2 robot modes and one alt mode. When Doubledealer, Apeface, Snapdragon and even Alpha Trion I was imagining them also as Transfaction reverse triple changers. A decepticon beast modes and autobot robot modes. As a sort of an Animated "Elita-1/Black Arachnia" eww of organic modes. So the character believes they have to be aligned with the Decepticons and must hide their beast mode from the Autobots.

Punch could be like Two-Face in the transformers universe. This guy got a cool concept which inspires other transformers deserved more attention and not fade to be forgotten.
This video has inspired me to get the galactic Odyssey pack with punch/CounterPunch :P
This video was fun to watch and if I had to say I'm definitely getting that two pack with barricade and punch/counter punch and I just like the concept of punch and I leave a like Rodimus and stay safe and I hope we can talk some time and stay safe❤
I definitely want Barricade as I already have the first Punch Counterpunch.
@@RodimusPrimal sweet and I'm definitely getting that two pack and i hope you and your family are doing will and I hope we can talk and geek out and till all are one❤✌
Very interesting, and strange, but actually the split personality twist, works. It's happened to very real people, with same jobs, infiltration spies, often lose sight of themselves, and even forget what side they're on.
"It's like, crazy man".
Another great episode, Rodimus
Thanks for covering this guy. I owned him as a kid, and alway wished there was more media for him!
the double spy Punch/CounterPunch deserves to have another spotlight in the show, and I should say that Punch is the true Autobot.
I missed out on the POTP exclusive, so when I saw the 2 pack recently I immediately preordered it.
Another great video Rodimus!
The Cybertronian War has evolved into a game into Among Us.
He deserves at least a spotlight comic or to be part of a storyline
Writers could really expand upon this character in stories, as this Cybertronian has an internal struggle with himself.
I can't wait to get him alongside with Barricade from Amazon! I always viewed Punch-Counterpunch as an Autobot.
Writing wise, more intetesting to leave it up in the air. Build that suspense!
Fortress Maxumus is so cool - I had him for a long time but had to sell him, the money paid the rent that month. 3 feet tall. Thing was solid like a brick. The newer one looks okay, but not as cool as the original - idk guess you just like what you are used to - so Preceptor soon? Please? :D
I have the original toy - very nice and sturdy, well built toy. Love it.
I'd be down for more spies. I really enjoyed Longarm/Shockwave.
Punch-Counterpunch is one of my top 5 characters just because I love the idea of him. I would love it if we got a masterpiece version of him.
My favourite version of Punch is probably the Transformers '84 depiction
I love your videos and find them informative and fascinating. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next one. Till all are one!
I always liked the concept of Punch/CounterPunch, and have felt that he was an Autobot, who if anything is under more stress than most.
Punch is my favorite character
When I was a kid, that toy blew my mind. Two robots? He was a favourite of mine!!
How nobody has done a Tyler durden inspired storyline with this guy is beyond me. Fanfics writers anybody there's an idea for you crossover fight club with transformers you have a Tyler durden
Remember Powermaster Doubler Dealer from G1? He was both Autobot/Deception but Simon Furman showed he was neither in a UK Marvel back up strip in the early 90s.
when u turn on the subtitles when punch says "deceptions are coming to bot con" is "deceptions are coming to VODKA" LMAO
I would love a video that Both of Double punch/Punch and Double Dealer.
I think he is a autobot
This is definitely one of my favorite transformers.
Oh so that’s why Shockwave was a double spy I. animated, as I barely new who Punch/Counter-punch was(I watched a episode of Animated before watching Rebirth)
Since barricade was in the show maybe he will appear in earthrise on cybertron with elita-1
I like to think he’s a mercenary who uses his split personalities as a way to maximize profits, each one only taking jobs from either faction depending on the personality in charge
sounds a little like doubledealer to me. but thats a fun idea!
I got lucky with the PotP version and got him with the Prima Prime Master. Punch-Counterpunch is one of my favorite Transformers
We need to see more of this guy or these guys
Everyone: Autobot or Decepticon?
This guy: Yes
Also Makeshift in Transformers Prime.
Awesome retrospective as always 👍. How about giving him a King Tut kinda deal like on the '66 Batman Show? That would be interesting
You can trust me Rodimus.
(Transforming sound effect)
You can trust me Galvatron.
(Saluting to Galvatron)
I call him a reverse triple changer. 2 robot modes and one alt mode.
When Doubledealer, Apeface, Snapdragon and even Alpha Trion I was imagining them also as Transfaction reverse triple changers. A decepticon beast modes and autobot robot modes. As a sort of an Animated "Elita-1/Black Arachnia" eww of organic modes. So the character believes they have to be aligned with the Decepticons and must hide their beast mode from the Autobots.
He is the guy telling the plans of Autobot's to Deception's and Deception's plans to Autobot's and let the war grow even bigger ......
