What I like the most about Grapple is that he demonstrates that Cybertronians have hobbies and dreams just like us Flesh Creatures.
Grapple...He is a character that has never caught my attention. Despite that, I am pleased to see that they haven't forgot him.

The 2nd part I like his new stuff will be amazing and I want to see him in future show with Hoist they are great together as a team. And for Hauler it can be this Hauler see the Constructicon come to Earth with Megatron if they remind remind helping building Megatron before the War of Autobot and Decepticon Hauler leave because they will be kill. Sense that his another same trucks has been discontinue when the Autobots take over Cybertron Hauler went offline. Thanks for the video.

I can die a happy man now that my boy Hauler is getting some of the attention he deserves.
I find him a little annoying, but I understand how he feels. I am an artist as well and care a lot about my work.

I love every character because they are all different. Grapple is an artist and that's what the constructions lacked.

I'm glad that Takara Tomy and Hasbro have recognized Hauler and Grapple as being two separate characters.

Since the earthrise toy has an accessible crane in robot mode, I love playing with that concept in battles. It's pretty cool.
Grapple is always an interesting for me because he’s an architect, which was simple but also quite unique
I always thought the Constructicons were completely sincere in their desire to construct the Solar Tower with Grapple for two reasons: 1) to work with (one of) Cybertron's most renowned architects, and 2) to actually build something NOT war-based, like they USED to. I'm not remotely suggesting they wanted to switch sides, but I felt they just wanted to do something different and, literally, build to their strengths. This would have been some interesting character development, showing that EVERYONE gets tired of endless war (Mirage, Huffer, Thundercracker, etc).
As a kid, I believed it was only AFTER Megatron confronted the Constructs on their supposed treachery that they QUICKLY flip-flopped and became two-dimensionally evil again.
I dreamed of a wistful Scrapper at the end, watching Hoist and Grapple drive away (from a safe distance), echoing Hoist's sentiment: "It WAS marvelous...while it lasted." Lamenting the conflict that would seemingly NEVER come to an end.
But I guess that would've been too much pathos for an afternoon cartoon! 😂
If anything it shows G1 cartoon had lot of character development and creative writing that many fans overlooked due to listen to clowns on the net who like to downplay the show and probably never watched it.

The earthise figure is amazing too! But the pegs that connect the crane base to the feet are a *little* too tight...
He has undergone zero design changes since 1983. This is because he is without flaw.

Because he's not a prominent character. For the most part, the only ones who really care enough to get Grapple or others that aren't popular are older G1 fans.

@@ilyte1 Most of the non-car Transformers are not to scale. Take Starscream and the other jets and compare them to the Autobot cars. The Jets should be a bit larger than they are. Then there's Astrotrain.

Grapple has been one of my favorite Autobots since I was a kid! I used to think it was Gravel lol!
Grapple was my very first Transformer toy, he will always be mad respected by me.
Would've been nice to see Hauler in the cartoon (in green) and separate from Grapple!
Grapple, like Perceptor, is a behind the scene star. They don't have the flashiest abilities or the greatest combat prowess, but their contributions to the Autobot cause cannot be doubted. If he does make a cartoon appearance, I hope that it showcases how vital his work has been.

Yeah, Grapple retrospective. I think he is one of the best character that came out in the second season of the show. I just bought Titans Return Mindwipe in online store. I can't wait for more transformers retrospective video. Still waiting for Terrorcon and Coneheads retrospective though.
Ah yes Grapple. A character that I've always loved but for no real reason. He's just always been a favorite of mine and when I first found out about his Earthrise toy I squeeled with fanboy joy.

To be unnecessarily serious for a second, Grapple (and by extension, Hoist) holds immense importance. Regardless of popularity as a character in a toyline, his importance to the mythos can't be understated. No force or civilization could exist without its infrastructure. The guys that build and maintain infrastructure are some of the most importance people to any civilization.
Hauler aka Roadhauler is making a comeback in Transformers Legacy. In the upcoming Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection subline.
Grapple, the competent Autobot architect or should I'd prefer builder. He build up Scramble City transformed into Metroplex and Omega Supreme. But, I like his personality.

I love Grapple, he's a much more complex and well developed character than for example Inferno or even Ratchet in the toon. Many of the season 2 new autobots are more well developed than the season 1 ones.

Interesting how there was all this hooplah with the name. So much so that two characters came out of it. It could've been easily rectified with just having him keep the name or maybe Cliffjumper misspoke. Oh well. On the upside, we got two cool characters out of it

I remember not enjoying the Grapple and Hoist buddy builders story arcs. Grapple's vanity and Hoist's enabling were troubling to me loll
Funny story. Grapple was never on my must buy list. After my starscream arrived damaged hasbro was out of replacements so they sent me grapple instead. After 3 hours of messing with him I still couldn’t put him down. I immediately went out and picked up hoist... after that I have been hooked on earthrise and only need one more to complete the line. I do hope he gets screen time in the future. He’s definitely an underrated toy and character.

I like his lines. If I can make a series I would’ve seen him constructing other stuff. While some of its lasts some of it does get trashed.
Funnily enough I just bought the Earthrise version of Grapple (and Hoist)the other day.
I suppose the version of Grapple in Transformers '84 Secrets and Lies doesn't count as the real one.

I feel that the episode master builder would have a more fitting end if it was grapple who destroyed his own solar tower.

I've never really cared much for Grapple, since kid me always thought he looked kinda bland and goofy, but his new toy is honestly one of my favorites from the Earthrise line, and he's really growing on me.

Great retrospective. I just got the Earthrise toy (and I broke the 5mm peg that connected to his right foot in vehicle mode!!!) and he looks great. I'm glad you mentioned Hauler, I was always convinced Grapple was a 1984 Toy line Autobots because of that. Now I see I was mistaken. I always learn something new with your videos.

I just bought him also and the peg on my Grapple's right foot broke off too.
It seems it happens a lot.
From Transformers wiki: 'Many buyers have reported that the circular pegs on the base of Grapple's crane are much too thick for the hexagonal pegholes on the bottom of his soles meant to secure the vehicle mode, causing them to break when attempting to unpeg them during transformation to robot mode. If the pegholes seem too tight, it's advised to lightly sand them down before fully plugging them in to avoid this risk.'

I have nothing but respect for Grapple.
I myself study mechanical engineering.
While I'm not so smart, I myself understand the value of works.
I know this isn't the most common opinion but I actually prefer the movie version of Devastaror for the creative use of his components: shovel fingers, crane arm that can work as a grappling hook, etc, but if I made a series I would base the Autobot build team off of the G1 constructicons using the names of past Autobot construction vehicles.
Scavenger would be Trench, the Caterpillar excavator from The Last Night.
Hook would be Grapple.
Bonecrusher would be Wedge, the leader.
Longhaul would be Wideload.
Scrapper would be replaced with Scoop again.
And Mixmaster would be Heavyload.
Also the unnamed yellow dump truck that forms movie Devastator's left thigh, that's always forgotten, would be Gravedigger.
In a similar note movie Jetfire would be Jetfire and G1 Jetfire would be Skyfire.

Cool to see not only a retrospective on Grapple but doing it for Hauler as well. I had always wondered when I saw Grapple in season 2 if that was who Hauler was supposed to be in the first episode of season one.
Grappler is like Perceptor, a luke warm design with a kick a** persona and character profile. He, like Perceptor, won’t have the genius of his character recognized until later; then they’ll be some of the most sought after. Like the Plymouth Superbird...
Smokescreen's death in Armada was pretty tragic, but I do have to wonder. Does Grapple have a Specific Accent in G1? I can't help but get a French or Swiss Vibe just from listening to him.
