It’s my favourite c-pop album for the past decade. It’s quite diverse and very interesting. I believe Guo Ding was the writer and the producer for the entire album, super talented.
The synth in the middle, to me, sounds like a "universe" type of sound that matches really well with the "Mercury" and universe vibe of the song and the whole album. It has a mix of sci-fi and electronic wave-like sound, which makes me think of a distant communication between the spaceships in the universe. It is like one spaceship is always calling the other one distantly, isolatedly, and quietly (in real space there are actually no "reverbs" :D), but might never be able to get together physically, just like the relation between the two persons in this song. I felt it "not rugged enough" too the first time I heard that sound. But when I listened to the song and the whole album again, I can feel the sophistication of using that synth sound and it actually became my favorite part in this song. I really want to know what type of synth (moog?) it is, if someone could tell.
First track: Love this. Totally agree with the Pink Floyd comparison. The arpeggios and chord progressions plus synth sound very reminiscent of Floyd. And the visuals too. Great analysis and suggestions to give greater depth. Second track: Solid performance. Super review.
For the 水星記，I perfer CD version since the middle with synth (or feels like saxophone) is much more smooth than this live version. His voice is perfect but I think the accompaniment can be better. Nevertheless, it still a great live performance :D Thank you for introduce this singer !
