Greetings Sorin it just goes to show how simple mistakes can take you down a rabbit hole, What I also admire about you is never bash the customers , the repair shop or the beginner who got it wrong but you encourage them to keep on going and don't give up. Thank you for your generousity and in-depth knowledge of electronics of which you genuinely share with your subscribers. Thanks again you are my inspiration.
Back in the day we used to briefly log the fault and steps taken for remediation using short hand, with faults like this, on the repair sheet we would put ESTO ' which means 'Equipment Smarter Than Operator'
Mr fantastic, Sorin. looking forward to benefit from your experience and generousity.Recently I bought an amscope microscope its on its way and will start following you in every little step to make my work develop more. Thank you
Thank you for making this video and figuring out the problem. i had the same problem after replacing my battery and was going crazy trying to figure it out.
Usually the battery socket connectors are keyed too. This explains why the socket is cracked. For the DYI, take a pic first and never use excessive fore.
So how we can learn if we always go to repair shop, sometimes we need to make mistakes to learn just as someone from the comments said take pictures before disassemble and compair after, other than that great video can't wait for next one 👍👍👍
Stangely, this connector is NOT poka-yoke. Its not mistake proof. However, at 16:20 you can see it has bplue pencil on right side, I believe customer can confirm that on original battery, there is blue pencil on connector from battery also. So its not poka-yoke in physical form, but someone marked it to make it poka-yoke.
Maybe this aftermarket battery has other colours than the original one. So it indicates the customer did Mark it before removing but never saw how to put in the new battery, maybe that's why the battery connector got broken.
As a technicians, we have to deal with these jobs also. The bad thing is that we almost taking the hard ways to figure it out whats the issue, because someone else did something. In the other hand, we have to be payed for the time we spend to figure it out what was the problem, even if the issue is something easy like in this case. The big question here is, what you can charge the customer for? That should be a tricky answer. (Hypothetic question). The truth is behind what Sorin said in the end of this video. "You know, some times you have to visit a Computer Shop to do things". and what ever this means.
3 minutes in, I'm pretty sure the battery connector job got shorts on it. I'll continue watching to see if I'm right or not. Edit: 6 minutes in. I'm wrong.
That's why the battery connector where broken. But , tell me please, when you connected the battery to your device,i seen 3 cells but only 2 was chaging, is it correct ?
Kids alienware laptop battery died, replaced it and it was good for 9months, then after an update it the battery got reported as not legit and the laptop refused to charge it from boot. As a result it hit 0% and swelled up bursting the laptop apart, currently giving a memory error. Thanks for taking care of my safety @dell 👍awesome job. Anyone know where i can get legitimate batteries?
Obviously the customer did not pay close attention to the connectors original specifications which no doubt in its construction would have only allowed an one-way fit...still he should have guessed that if the battery is cheaper than the OE equipment then something must be missing and it would appear an small tang to insure proper correct and more importantly safe fitting on the connector port was one of those missing items..mind you after all of this it doesnt look like he saved any money so let that be lesson because as they say in this life then "you really do get what you pay for"...!!
probably customer broke it when removing the battery or when forcely reinserted it I remember my first computer was a C64 (yes I'm that old) that my father's boss gave away to him because it stopeed working, happened that the secretary tried to set it up and managed to connect the power supply into the video/audio output. I friend of my dad kind of fixed it but the sound chip was beyond repair. I grew up with a mute C64
me too. at least, until now, i seen only one/way connectors, everywhere... if you tried to connect them on other way, you end with a broken connector...
Usually ,they mould the connector to only go in one way with those little nibs of plastic so you cant do it wrong. So is this a design fault? and thank god, nothing was shorted with power going to the chips but they made so you could "safely" put it in either way?? but better to just make it one way possible?
yep dells are very delicate about batteries... i have lattitude 5590 and with 3rd party battery it doesn't hold a charge or even work on battery - if i unplug the charger and the laptop dies... had to buy an original one to work properly.
I have a brother in law that is an electrical engineer that would tear up a laptop like that. Amazing that he could not even screw in a light bulb without dropping it and breaking it. It is always better for him to leave things alone !
This failure is similar to phones on blacklist, stolen, or the price was not fully paid. The monitoring waits till the user buys a new battery, then they lock down the laptop.
No connector should be made to plug in both ways. That is a very poor design. At least they didn't make it so the laptop would go up in smoke if plugged in upside down.
most of them only cleans the dust and change the thermal paste, and change parts like keyboards, batteries, ram, ssd, displays and so on, no complicated stuff.
To be fair to the customer, what an EXTREMELY STUPID DESIGN from HP to use a connector that can connected backwards! At least they had the decency to make it so the polarity wouldn't be reversed either way or else it would have been a much major fault.
So you think you are a genius for fixing the mistake. The manufacture is the only one to blame here. They should not even have to dig in that far to replace the battery in the first place. The designer didn't keyway that connector on purpose. Glad you figured it out but don't get mad at the CX for trying to save a few bucks. Makes you out to be the azzhole in this case. BTW you are far from genius.
Greetings Sorin it just goes to show how simple mistakes can take you down a rabbit hole, What I also admire about you is never bash the customers , the repair shop or the beginner who got it wrong but you encourage them to keep on going and don't give up. I agree.
He did bash the CX.
You never fail to educate and entertain, Sorin.
"Looks like some hot glue in there... I don't think I'm guilty" 😅
"What kind of sorcery is that!" 😂😂
I laughed so hard, thx for everything Sorin.
Hey, those are the things that make issues like this memorable so you'll always check in the future. Definitely learned something.😉
Back in the day we used to briefly log the fault and steps taken for remediation using short hand, with faults like this, on the repair sheet we would put ESTO ' which means 'Equipment Smarter Than Operator'
I feel a bit bad for the client. Well done, Sorin.
Wouldn't expect HP to design a battery connector that goes in both ways its bellow their high standards on there premium laptop range
I believe it's not, see that connector is broken
The simplest explanation is usually the correct one! Nice catch.
What a genius repairman,,hi mr. Sorin im always watching your tutorial here in the Philippines..🙏
Hello Sorin am very impressed with your working skills.
From Malawi.
Mr fantastic, Sorin. looking forward to benefit from your experience and generousity.Recently I bought an amscope microscope its on its way and will start following you in every little step to make my work develop more. Thank you
Nice detective work Sorin, very teachful repair
If we didn't know better, I would say that someone tried to "prank" Sorin. It really makes you wonder how these things happen. Good job!
Thank you for making this video and figuring out the problem. i had the same problem after replacing my battery and was going crazy trying to figure it out.
Wow, that's been a crazy issue. I'm kind of surprised the connector isn't coded in some way so you can't plug it in the wrong way.
Love from India sorin.. You are a good teacher to me.. 😊❤
Thanks for the knowledge sorin
Have a good monday sorin! and a good week. Thanks!
Very Nice Troubleshooting Video. That's Why I always take a picture before unplugging anything inside a laptop. Thank You
You're great as usual Sorin.
Thanks
Hola Sorin, es un gran trabajo. Una consulta como conectas los adaptadores de corriente a tu fuente de alimentación?.Saludos.
I have spent most of my Sunday watching you work , That reversed connector was so funny..😅😅😅
Thank you very much Sorin for this wonderful and inspiring videos. Corneliu.

15:53 It is quite obvious that the side with the locking pins are up.
și în sfârșit bateria va știi că se încarcă, bravo!
Good video. Good issue. Bad connector design.
That was hysterical...engineering fail. 🤣. Thanks for the video Sorin
I'm learning alot .
Awesome Mr. SORIN.
Good find 👍
U GREAT SORIN
Hi Sorin, Can a different battery be used. As long as chip is same? Thanks
"What kind of sorcery is that?!" hahaha. Nice.
Great video, thank U 🙂
Cloud you please send us the reference of that battery analyzer equipment that you used to see the battery status and graphics analises?
Please check the description of this video

Perhaps it was, before the customer forced it in 😂😂
That's why i always take a photo before i unplug something xD

A lesser Tech would have not spotted that.

Master SORIN, How do you connect the laptop charger and the power supply displays like USB power meter ? Please Help
That's why the battery connector where broken. But , tell me please, when you connected the battery to your device,i seen 3 cells but only 2 was chaging, is it correct ?

Thanks for taking care of my safety @dell 👍awesome job.
Anyone know where i can get legitimate batteries?
hence the hot glue, he broke the connector, and also the wires weren't in the slot
You would think in this day & age they would make the battery connector keyed to only go together one way 🤯 Unbelievable!!
You will be amazed how a determined lot can insert a keyed connector in reverse!
probably customer broke it when removing the battery or when forcely reinserted it
I remember my first computer was a C64 (yes I'm that old) that my father's boss gave away to him because it stopeed working, happened that the secretary tried to set it up and managed to connect the power supply into the video/audio output.

Fortunately you returned that "vital" thing (the glue) in any repair; I can breathe a sigh of relief, so if we can say that it is a guaranteed job.
Thanks man
... SuperGlue Hero was on duty! :D
I thought connections like that were proprietary and one way only.
me too. at least, until now, i seen only one/way connectors, everywhere... if you tried to connect them on other way, you end with a broken connector...
which camera model do you use for your videos please ?
Usually ,they mould the connector to only go in one way with those little nibs of plastic so you cant do it wrong. So is this a design fault? and thank god, nothing was shorted with power going to the chips but they made so you could "safely" put it in either way?? but better to just make it one way possible?
Sorin wet the hot glue with IPA, wait a minute and it will come off easier.
Should have just written TOP on the connector :D
Doesn't hot glue get soft inside a warm laptop? I love hot glue, but never inside a laptop or car or anywhere that gets war.
Replace with laptop spare😀😀😀
The point of that connector is so you cannot plug the battery wrong...🤣🤣🤣
Also the connector looks kind of cheap😂, you would expect something better than this from hp
Hello Sorin, NLBA1 is expensive, and in addition there is an yearly subsripion fees. So not intersted to buy NLBA1.
shouldnt be the connector hard to insert another way around or a notch to indicate the position where to insert? maybe the customer force it?
Yeaa....i think so. thats why there a sign of hot glue at the battery connector. He broke the connector notch and fixed it with hot glue wrong side
Costumer may be lucky with the fool proof design of the connector, a non fixable board prevented here
Good point. The engineers probably considered this when designing the batt connector pinout.
that's explain why the connector are broken
that connector should be fool-proof
Hello, how much do You charge The customer for this repair/check?
i have a Dell Precision bought 3rd party battery and no work so had to get Dell battery for it to work
yep dells are very delicate about batteries... i have lattitude 5590 and with 3rd party battery it doesn't hold a charge or even work on battery - if i unplug the charger and the laptop dies... had to buy an original one to work properly.
Tragicomic. Both sad and funny.
I have a brother in law that is an electrical engineer that would tear up a laptop like that. Amazing that he could not even screw in a light bulb without dropping it and breaking it. It is always better for him to leave things alone !
that's crazy
As "Predator" said , "s..t happens" ... But the guys from repair shop ? What "basic stuff" they did ?
but the connecter not suppose to be possible to plug in on both ways
Lol to karma ,when the owner realise it is only reverse xD
This failure is similar to phones on blacklist, stolen, or the price was not fully paid. The monitoring waits till the user buys a new battery, then they lock down the laptop.
❤
No connector should be made to plug in both ways. That is a very poor design. At least they didn't make it so the laptop would go up in smoke if plugged in upside down.
Make photos before changing things
Why are these laptop repair shops open if they have to send it to you for repair
most of them only cleans the dust and change the thermal paste, and change parts like keyboards, batteries, ram, ssd, displays and so on, no complicated stuff.
I hate HPs from many reasons, and this is one in the queue. I never seen on any other laptop a battery connector which can be wrongly connected.
With enough determination you can fit a square peg into a round hole.
What an awful connector design that allows it to be connected backwards. HP needs a slap on the wrist for that one.
To be fair to the customer, what an EXTREMELY STUPID DESIGN from HP to use a connector that can connected backwards! At least they had the decency to make it so the polarity wouldn't be reversed either way or else it would have been a much major fault.
Anything can be made to fit with enough force applied.
House : Everybody lies
That is poor design on the part of the manufacturer. You shouldn't be able to plug the battery in backwards.
Hello 🤝👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👋👋👋👋👋
O nooooo lol.....
Double charge.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sirine umreh od smeha👍👍👍💪💪💪🤣🤣🤣🤣
supatanx
XD LOL
It is fake.
