Lesson learned Sorin, this is why why I always insist the customer brings their charger with the laptop, that way I can check the charger at the same time. Great video never the less!

Good evening sorin... I have a laptop repairing business in mauritius island and my repair learning journey started after watching one of your videos in 2018.
Concerning this video I had a similar situation last week where I had a hp 440 g6 motherboard repaired and switching on but taking 9A with my DC power supply... Now that mistery is solved thanks to your experience and repair videos

A search for "5A linear PSU" should get you useful links. As linear PSUs are quite weighty, you might prefer one with a handle on the top, or you can add your own. (10 A is another "standard" size, with a commensurate increase in weight and price.)

the protocol for power delivery the Charger IC ----> tells the Adapter what it wants inside the adapter there is an mcu listening to the charger ic , in effect the adapter is a constant voltage constant current power source which in turn offloads the requirements on the laptop charger circuit

I THINK the topology of the bench power supply (linear vs SMPS) doesn't necessarily determine if it can/should have a relay on its output - I think both types can have one if the overcurrent circuit is designed to cut off the output entirely when the set limit is reached....in which case I think it's not possible to have a CC mode, as that would be the point where it cuts out anyway...

I'm curious what is written on the back cover. Hp always give the information about max current and voltage of power supply. The manual of this laptop doesn't mention fast charge. The max wattage of power supply is 65W. What the hell ? I still believe something is wrong with this laptop... And if i'm right, the fast charge option should be in Bios, you can enable or disable it. If it is not there, the battery or motherboard is faulty. Just think about it Sorin over 6A in fast charge it doesn't make sense for such low power laptop. And one more thing you have this universal blue pin charger adapter. It has resistor built in, it is speaking with th the charging circuit what wattage of power supply you connect. This blu pin is rated max 65W, so why the motherboard is tsking over 5A. Hp doesnt have blue pin chargers rated over 6A.

    • @Customer22374

there's blue pin charger rated more than 6A . I have HP gaming laptop blue pin 180W blue pin charger like 9.2A . nothing wrong with the motherboard . if he connect 120W or above charger will be no cut off it is called fast charging same as phone fast charging
