    The new Castle Drachenfels maps in Vermintide 2 actually go further into her backstory if you listen to the demon's whispers. Spoilers ahead for those who want to play for themselves:
    Apparently, Kerillian witnessed a prophecy when she followed that Spellsinger that spoke of Ubersreik playing a part in the downfall of Athel Loren by the skaven. Kerillian took this to mean that the town needed to be destroyed so she led an attack on an Empire soldier caravan that was meant to reinforce the town. When the Wood Elves Council found out about these two events, they banished Kerillian who came to feel increasingly guilty over her actions. I'm not sure when the curse factors in but its implied that Kerillian is trying to avenge each and every innocent that died because of her actions (the reason she counts her kills) so perhaps she made a deal with Drakira to be paid in the blood of the skaven. Also, take this all with a grain of salt as it comes from a VERY untrustworthy source and is half extrapolations on my part.

    • @carloscaro9121
      @carloscaro9121 4 года назад +329

      Further spoilers...
      ...
      The whispered voices are Nameless, which is a reference to Drachenfels himself. Additionally, the voice suggests Kerillian heard a prophecy which said Ubersreik would play a role in the fall of Athel Loren and it did because the attack she launched was enough to tip the balance in favor of the Skaven and thus revitalize their efforts. In other words, Kerillian is directly responsible for Ubersreik being too weak to stand and indirectly for Athel Loren's fall. Basically, it's all her fault.
      Additionally, there is some hint that she held high rank among the Wood Elves. My pet theory is she is nobility in exile, and her joking about "Queen Kerillian" during the pub crawl mission is actually a little bit of drunken truth.
      The map also reveals each character is basically a guilty mess.
      Kruber has massive PTSD from shoveling men into the maw of wars he considers pointless. He's seriously considered just turning his comrades over to Chaos for coin, thinking the Empire is too weak to bother with, its rulers too corrupt, and that they would finally treat him well.
      Saltzpyre has realized he has sent innocent people to the pyre and has a crisis of faith. He is unsure if Sigmar can actually save them from Chaos, or if he really is a divinity at all. He essentially views himself as a murderer for having killed a young woman for being a vampire - and she wasn't one at all.
      Sienna has murdered her companions more than once in fits of pyromania. She feels the twitch to do so again. She has also killed an Inquisitor to free a friend...who turned out to be a monstrous witch and servant of Chaos - meaning the Inquisitor was right.
      Bardin messed up on a patrol and was nearly taken out by a gutter runner. His son was killed, and he failed to warn a hold because of his slack watch (a thing he yells at Kruber for). He is "hold seeker" because it sounds less awful than "exile."

      It's very likely these two regiments were the reinforcements for Ubersreik... and Kerillian destroyed them.
      And about Bardin, I always thought he failed to warn the hold *because* of the injury inflicted by the gutter runner, not because of his "slack watch".

    • @STorchbearer
      @STorchbearer 4 года назад +80

    As someone who's in love with VT2 (and, frankly, probably a bit addicted) and is fascinated by the depth of the characters' respective backstories and personalities, this was super interesting to watch! I probably won't play VT1, at least for a long while, so having a look at so many "new" voicelines (in the sense that I had never heard them before, even though they're older) gives me a whole new world of insight into the characters I know and love.
    And it's also very interesting to see how they changed between VT1 and VT2 - I feel like Kerillian is growing less arrogant over time. She's still arrogant of course, but she feels less "disconnected" from the others, "warmer", in a way. Maybe she's just growing accustomed to her companions and thus doesn't feel the need to berate them as much because she feels that they might "know their place" by now, or maybe she's actually grown to respect them a bit after seeing their deeds and valor, and sometimes deceptively deep wisdom (well, compared to what an elf expected from mayflies anyway). After all, meeting and living with new and diverse people is the best antidote to prejudice and preconceived ideas of superiority, no matter what world you're from...
    This is the first such video that I watch, but I'm definitely going to watch more (well, realistically, I'm probably gonna binge them all over the next few days). Sorry for rambling, but I wanted to thank you for the effort of recording, editing, and posting such videos ^^ To whoever reads this: cya and take care

    Every now and then I return to this video. Both games encapsulate Warhammer Fantasy so well, with 2 being a brighter setting even though the end is closer and 1 being grim as hell although there is enough time for repentance and some joy. Kerillian is also a fantastic character that we will probably not see the likes of for a while. Her mysterious nature added with the infamous elven arrogance solidifies her as the ultimate tsundere but still likeable to wish her the best when the world ends. The sound effects too add a lot of atmosphere to the game. The tones that characters will speak their lines in weave a believable plot of dialogue that makes each a person with ups and downs, less of a generic hero squad who were spawned by god himself and do no wrong. Added with the continued expansion on their personalities in 2 with Lohner's journal and the voice lines, we have 5 lovable people pretending to be heroes, and Kerillian is my favorite.

(why would wood elves practice blood magic or whorship khaine in that way) and in Athel Yenlui (v2) she says that the ruins dont belong to her kin, and that her kin was exiled (dark elves?)+ in Lohners chronicles: a walk in the woods it is mentioned that kerillian tells him that dark and high elven outcasts are refugees in Athel Loren AND in her exile story to lohner (where he says it was probably a lie with a grain of truth) she says that her reason of Exile was the product of a forbidden Ritual for Hekarti of some famous elf that she witnessed and this elf accused kerillian of murder so she got exiled in order to silence her. Lohner says that the name of this priest was probably edited so maybe it was kerillian herself (thats why she favours Lileath but her soul belongs to another + the Chaos warriors often call her elf-witch or hag). In the Drachenfells Mission of Vermintide 2 the demon mentions her being left out and "noble Araloth has everything that should be yours" so maybe she was a noble (her Legendary skin for shade is "Clar Karond Royalblood" and thats why she is an outsider Shade and maybe migrated to Athel Loren) I mean its far fetched but this new article from lohners chronicle from 2021 gave me the idea because it mentions the hekarti Ritual (dark magic) and the fact that dark elf outcasts live there that cause problems

    The lore has such great ideas!

    • @basedeltazero714
      @basedeltazero714 3 года назад +6

      I'm not sure about that, but it does make some kind of sense - the 'curse' on her feels pretty necromantic, using Shyish to draw in Dhar... though I suppose it could be pure Shyish or even Qhaysh, but the latter at least seems unlikely.
      Still, if she was undead, I'd think Sienna could tell. It's possible her windsight is pretty marginal, though.
      Maybe, instead of outright being killed, she was imprisoned and experimented on by... probably a dark elf sorceress, rather than a necromancer. A 'time bomb' in her soul that can only be delayed via murder is the kind of idea that'd drive dark elves wild.

    I genuinely think Kerillian gets judged unfairly by the community. I think it's because of the temperance we have (since I feel at least all of us have watched the Hobbit/LOTR) on preconceeding notions on elven ethics and personality.
    The thing with Warhammer elves is their attitudes directly stem from their emotions. It sounds HARSHLY obvious but let me make a comparison.
    We all get depression some way or another but the way we approach it is unique and fluctuates on a spectrum of intensity and comprehension. Some of us get cold and violent, others carry a witty and deadly tongue, others just sort of get melancholy and recluse.
    With Kerillian and her kind, these emotions are deeply influenced by the aura around them, the winds of magic, the interconnectivity of the Oak of Ages etc. So whatever curse and folly she faced is inherently intensified already.
    She simply wants better for the world because she herself bears a burden of some existential comprehension regarding freedom and morales, hence her sharp mind and wordage.

    The Ubersriek Five were interesting characters in the first game. They all got a sizable downgrade in personality in Vermintide 2. Kerillian's probably one of the biggest victims of this. She was snarky in the first game, but also mysterious, and intelligent, and not all bad. In the second game, she's a loud, pompous asshole with no likable qualities.

      I wish that she was smarter. I mean, there’s a reason why she calls the others “mayflies”, because the other races are short lived in comparison to elves. I wish we got to see some of that aged wisdom, but the elf comes off as kind of a dumb asshole.

      nah, it got to the point it was super overbearing, shes still a bitch but more acclimated with everyone, it isnt her on the defensive anymore in V1, now its comfortable sparring and snarkness whilst sleeping under the same roof and drinking together in V2. The end is round the corner, her being the same personality from V1 rather than the accepting state in V2 wouldve been unbearable...

      In her moment to moment callouts, but during quieter moments she still has plenty of more somber lines. You just don't hear them as much since 2 generally has more combat happening. Check out some compilations of her dialogue in the keep and you'll get more stuff like this. Particularly in regards to Bardin's past and her eventual transformation into a Sister of the Thorn.
