dear Susmita Talks and books are meant to inspire and sometimes even transmit an influence. But lasting progress only comes by sincerely following the path. That is the big difficulty with most people. Talks and reading open the mind (sometimes the heart as well) and in rare moments touch and awaken the soul if they are inspired. But this is only a first step. The rest is a walk in real time. affectionately alok da

Actually, last week, in my evening "sadhan" , it seemed Sree Maa came and talked on guru tatva and on the importance of Guru in spiritual life. And surprisingly she was talking in bangla. Did she know bangla? I have very little knowledge about mother , her work, her writings...and honestly speaking, I had no interest in her, although I adore Rishi Aurobindo and his poems. Very difficult for me , though. I have been following your discourses quite a while and I really love them, sir🙏 Can I have you email, sir? Aum🙏
It is not surprising if the Mother spoke to you in Bangla. In Her universal consciousness She has access to every form of knowledge including languages. It also happens that when the Divine Consciousness pours itself into a human vessel it takes the figure and form of speech that the person in accustomed to. That is how the power of inspiration works moulding itself in the language with which the recipient is familiar. Individually, knowing Her complete unity with Sri Aurobindo She would have surely known Bangla though may never have needed to converse in it. As to Guru it will be best to go to auromaa.org and type the word Guru You will see a number of writings and videos, for example HH 184 and TE 083, take a look. Affectionately alok

Dear Dhirabrata It is not about being common or uncommon since the soul is within all of us. Only in some people it is dormant whereas in others it is either awakened or close to its awakening. Until the soul is awakened, it is good to regard all human relations as stamped with transience and imperfection so that we do not keep high expectations from people thereby creating needless stress upon them. Human relationships, like every other aspect of our human life should primarily be seen as a training ground for cultivating and harnessing the energy of Love within us. It should be seen as a field of experience through which we learn to love unselfishly, to give generously, to look upon all with benevolence, compassion and forgiveness. It is also a great opportunity to develop qualities of self forgetfulness, tolerance, wideness in understanding and many other qualities that are helpful to walk on the path. One can discover different aspects of oneself through our relation with others since each provides us a mirror. Going through life and relationships this way we become better equipped for discovering our soul. By learning to love selflessly, without expectations, unconditionally we eventually pass behind the human appearance and discover the principle of love that is found in the soul. In other words our relationships themselves become a path to the great discovery. Of course once we discover the soul then things change. It is then and only then that some beautiful elements, some truth, some harmony and sweetness can be added to the story of human love. Otherwise even at best it remains woven on shaky grounds with storms and turbulences often round the corner, often ending in disappointments and frustrations. as long as love is rooted in the ego and desire self it remains uncertain and full of turbid mixtures. It is only what is rooted in the soul that can last and find true wings to uplift it from the earthly grounds to heavenly fields and ethereal skies. affectionately alok da

Sir I wanna understand and indoctrinate the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo & the mother. There is a lot of text and audio-visual content which puzzling me. So from where I can start to inherits the philosophy? Please guide me.
There are three key elements in Sri Aurobindo's philosophy that help us orient to his teachings. 1. There is One Reality behind this world of varied manifold creation. This is of course common to all spiritual seeking and religious thought. The Vision of the One Reality is threefold, Transcendent, Cosmic and Individual, in the sense that it transcends Creation, envelops it, extends into it and enters into each and every element of it. This is the first fundamental truth of the One Reality, One Being, that is at once Personal, Impersonal and Suprapersonal infinite Existence, Consciousness and Bliss. 2. The second fundamental truth is that this Reality is not only static but also dynamic. It is not just a silent witness but actively manifesting itself through countless names and forms. All evolution is a progressive manifestation of the One Reality through name and form. The static aspect of the One Reality is the Iswara (Supreme Lord) and the dynamic aspect is Shakti (Divine Mother) or the Supreme Wisdom and Power that has gone into creation. All creation is the play of the Divine as Lord and His Shakti. 3. The third and most important aspect is that this manifestation is not yet over. It is still labouring in its lesser forms and formulations. It is destined to go further until the world and its forms can manifest fully the unveiled Divine. Right now our mind and body still labouring heavily under ignorance, at worst deflect and distort, at best limit the manifestation. Nature, the executive force is laboring to make it more and more perfect through the conscious collaboration of man. That is why it has given man the dream of a perfect life in every aspect. The conscious collaboration of man to arrive at fulfilling the Divine intention in creation is what is termed as Yoga. Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo is a means to arrive at this Perfection destined for earth and man. The method is to put our present limited human nature in contact with the Divine Supernature or the Divine Shakti through faith, aspiration and surrender. Once the door is opened and the initial contact established then it is the Divine Shakti who does the progressive transformation and the consequent divinisation. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother represent and embody these two aspects of the One Reality as the Lord and His Shakti. This embodiment facilitates the process by making it easier for us to connect and contact. Otherwise, the whole thing will remain too abstract for the average human being. Opening to the Mother is therefore the key to this yoga. It starts with the discovery of the soul within, the pouring in of higher and higher forces from spiritual planes above the human mind and the rational intellect. Eventually, once our mind, body and life are sufficiently prepared then there is the divinisation of the entire natural being ending with the emergence of a new divine body not subject to death, disease and decay. Of course, all this is bound to take time because it is not an individual but a collective change. But the process has been initiated and the Mother and Sri Aurobindo watching over it from the subtle realms operating behind the gross material world. As to the books, I would recommend reading Letters on Yoga, Sri Aurobindo on the Mother and most of all Collected Works of the Mother. Rest depends upon the opening and interest of the seeker and the extent to which one is ready and willing to walk upon the path. affectionately alok bhai
Attachment to children is a normal and healthy instinct given by nature to parents, especially to mothers since it helps in providing the needed nourishment and nurturing to children. However this very instinct becomes counterproductive when parents become over-protective making children almost dependent upon them. Or else they want their children to stay near them and become like them, fulfil their unfulfilled ambitions, complete their half-finished tasks, provide for them in old age, marry the person of their choice, fulfill parent's dreams and so on. Basically, it is the energy of love distorted by the ego self. One loves the child (or the person) for the sake of the ego self and its satisfactions. Love on the other hand is to love for the sake of the person or for the Divine Self in that person. When we love someone thus we help liberate the divine elements in the person and allow him or her to chose the path of evolution as dictated by his swadharma, the true divine impulsion within. Here too one cares and does everything that one must but free from all expectations of return or self gratification.
Thank you Alok da! Feeling so relieved to know how to read Sri Aurobindo & The Mother . I have a question... nowadays a new trend has come up & that is family What’s app group where all cousins are included. We were close as children but after that everyone grew up differently ,got married as life passed by. Now, the problem I face is that I can not always relate to the kind of jokes or content they share. Someone would post a picture of a family member who died 35 years ago & everyone has to say...oh,we miss you so much (with a crying emoji along with it) ! If I do not give an emotional response they feel hurt & think I neglected them. There is a kind of unwritten group behaviour one has to follow. Once I thought that may be I can practice equanimity by staying Connected But sometimes my vulnerable side falls into the trap of such group behaviour which I feel is a kind of falsehood . Is it harmful while I am trying to practice yoga? How do I behave in such situations when in a group which we can not always avoid completely?
Dear Sucheta Family relationships are based on the physical consciousness and hence tend to stick like habits of the body. Their dropping off is always considered a good sign from the yogic perspective. In fact one of the concrete sign that we are progressing is when a whole old associations begin to lose their grip upon us. They were based on the old consciousness. As our consciousness changes and grows our past tends to fall away along with the old associations. So while outwardly we may remain part of a group (for whatever social reasons or very simply a herd instinct) our inner being begins to be detached which is a good sign. Whether we still continue with the group as a silent member or simply exit it will depend upon the individual but there is certainly no sense in forcing oneself to react and respond when we are no more feeling involved. That would certainly be falsehood and it is best avoided. affectionately alok da
