this is a funny thing to remember.. when Magnus talk about the eyeliner I remembered back when I was small around 98s and early 2000s people around me have a tradition to put on kohl on their kids' eyes. I'm growing up in villages in rural East part of Javanese Island in Indonesian. I remembered me and my cousin (who was a male) always prepped with light baby powder and kohl around our eyes after morning bath. the tradition never centered around gender either, male, female, kids were to have it. I never knew why, it has deep roots with Old Javanese believes. we wouldn't required to put on kohl anymore when we grew up around the time for school, age 6 or 7 I think. last time I went home people in my hometown still do this but it's a fading tradition. it's nice to have a bit of culture where gender doesn't matter. even though now it's quickly being erased as religion began to erode it. religious sentiments has been unusually high these days.
