Michael Cleveland fans take note: This man is truly the greatest fiddler who has walked the earth. Anyone who has ever pulled a bow knows that Stuart Duncan is the greatest of all time. Mark O'Connor is close. Andy Leftwich is close. But Stuart, man, Stuart is the greatest. Just the body of work the man has done is staggering.
Good argument. O’Conner too self absorbed. Great for sure. Cleveland marvelous for sure. But God made him a sponge. Can hear others and immediately play their licks. Combination of all the fiddlers he’s ever heard. Not much he can call his own. But still incredible. Aubrey Haynie right up there. So hard to pick one. They all have renditions of songs I think they do better than anyone else. Stuart is always perfect leading or somewhere in the back. Just the right notes at right time at right volume to add to everyone’s performance. If not the best so so close.
mr. STUART DUNCAN is master of the fiddle along with other instruments. Has played with a lot of the great musicians.amazing to listen to. My opinion he is one of the best. He should be in the hall of fame.
I had the pleasure of playing in a band with Vassar. Both him and his wife Millie were fine people. I have this video saved and can close my eyes and swear it's Vassar note for note in the middle with Stuart's flare in the end. Best version I've heard yet. Stuart is a true artist. My favorite fiddle player.
Stewart Duncan one of my musical heros. I loved Vasar Clemens also. Stewart, I heard all those slides and slurs you put in there almost identical to how he did it. Loved it thank you.
One of my favorite fiddle players and with out a doubt an icon among us fiddle players. Have tried to immolate him ,along with, Mark Oconner, Bobby Hicks, Bobby Flores And many other greats. Thank you Stewart for playing that tune and putting all those old Vassar Clemens licks on the fiddle he passed down to you. Brought old memories back of his great unorthodox but wonderful style.
I've known this as "Paddy on the Turnpike", FWIW. And, having heard Alison Krauss name Stuart Duncan as her favorite fiddler, what more to say? You can't hide Jerry Douglas from me. Spill.
I always feel sorry for that mandolin Bush plays and wish he had fulfilled his life's dream of slamming away on an electric guitar in an acid rock band. Not sure how that energetic flailing with his left hand aids rather than limits his playing but that head banging is absolutely hysterical. He sure is not in Duncan's league.
@ K CHRISTIANSON, You shut your fucking mouth. Goddamn ignorant troglodyte comment right here, folks. The current greats stand on the shoulders of this man.
Incredible, fantastic. Stuart, Sam and Bryan. Thank God for RUclips otherwise would never have heard this music.
These guys are incredible
Unconscious, Been at it fifty years.
Stuart is My fiddle hero; incredible sounds and tone.

his wife touches him!
michael cleveland out fiddle him anyday any age
There are certainly some but he’s always going to be on everyone’s top 5 list. Incredibly talented.

Is this the same tune as Avalanche?

Indeed, @danrumor, DO NO such thing!
Perfect, clear, deep, harmonious, rich sound... And talented performers!

Sam Bush --my favorite mandolin player!
SO liiiitt!!!!
yehaaaa thanks, Stu!
That's some "top shelf" fiddling!
oh man....great music...
Smokin'. . . Frets melting . . . Smell of burning horse hair ... Stuart nailing some Vassar mojo ....
This is how it's done folks ! !
A guy typed "immolate" up above, so yer gettin' 'warm' there ... 😅
Fiddling that'll make the devil run 💪😂💪
Goooood stuff!!!
Dang! He Vassar'd that alright. What a work out.

PADDY ON THE TURNPIKE
Stuart is awesome! They’re all amazing musicians though.
Can't see Jerry Douglas, but can see Bryan Sutton...
I think I found my role model for learning bluegrass style :-)
You have. Stuart Duncan has everything - tone, timing and most of all taste. The guy is a genius.
How is the learning going? You've had a year😆
I see no sign of Douglas but I do see and hear Bryan Sutton.
Stuart's last break was certainly a tribute to Vassar!
Hi. I don’t see Jerry Douglas here. I do see Sam Bush.
How good is Stuart, it's a rhetorical question.
What I hear is Vassar Clements, don't I?
Bryan Sutton on guitar, no Jerry Douglas.... But nice anyway.
We dont deserve Stuart Duncan
Who is "we"?
"Paddy on the Turnpike" not "Patty."
Paddy*
Patty?
Nice, although I think it should be Paddy, not Patty.
Pretty damn good. But prefer Kenny Baker's version.

Looking forward to watching the superior mandolin videos that you’ve recorded, Kevin.
@@dziegele well said!
Kevin? Where ARE those mandolin vids of yours??? Lol
I think you kind of misspoke here. Whether you dig the animated exuberance or not, Sam's on the short list of greats.
@@davidriggs2729 Yes - extremely shor list.
