  • The folks at Golfworks have always done a great job making / designing golf clubs. This time we get to test the new STi2 iron. See the performance this the lefty offering provides. We also get to hear from Britt Lindsey the VP of the Technical section of the Golfworks. Oh, and you can build this one.

    I was glad to see this because I'm considering getting these irons. I hit the Sti pretty good in a recent fitting session and am waiting now to go back and see the STi2. Thanks, Jim.

    Recently built a set of STi2’s with True Temper Score LT shafts trimmed halfway between regular and stiff flex. Absolutely love them. They are everything I want in a club. Distance, launch, spin, workability, looks, and feel are all on point. These are quality components at an amazing price.
    If you’re watching this video, it’s probably because you are wondering if these irons are as good as something from a big name company. The short answer is yes. I have no doubt if these irons had a different named stamped on the bottom, they would easily sell for over $1000. In fact, if you look at the newest Calloway Apex irons, they look a lot like the STi2. Most people don’t know it, because Maltby doesn’t really spend huge dollars advertising, but they have designed and patented much of the tech that exists in modern golf clubs.

    It would be nice if Golfworks could work out some deal with Golf Galaxy where they could do fittings for Maltby on their products. I think when people test these clubs they will realize how just how good they look and feel at the fraction of the price of the other manufacturers. I thought at one time they were working together on some things. Just a thought.

      When my local Golf Galaxy opened like a dozen years ago, they actually stocked some of the Golfworks heads right on the display with all the grips and grip tape and grip solvent, shaft extensions, etc. I also wish they would stock the Golfworks heads so you could get a really good look at the leading edge of the irons and the amount of camber on the soles. It’s hard to determine exactly what the leading edge in particular is like just from pictures. I wish someone would do a video on the newer Golfworks KE4 Max irons.

    Nice review, Jim. I did a review of this iron on my channel not too long ago, and am already building sets. Quality stuff and very affordable. Also great to hear Britt talk about the design process. I was out there for a school when the TS-1 & 2 prototypes were being tested, and was impressed by how detailed the process is when Britt described it to the class.

    Just hit the demo 7i that I put together. No launch monitor and limited flight range balls. But hit some really good shots and bad shots that felt normal and still flew to target. Especially off the toe. Put a .355 tip s300 playing 37 1/4". Liked it so much I ordered the rest for a 5-gw set. Ball flight is very high. Even with the s300. Will have to get on a monitor and dial in the lofts.

    I'm also left-handed and just getting back into golf after a 4 year hiatus due to shoulder issues . I'm ready to start golfing. My handicap 😂 was 22 at best. Actually my handicap was a crappy girlfriend and her bad attitude for golf. LOL. I still have the old clubs she is gone. Anyways I'm ethered-up up on buying a new set of irons. Honestly I have no clue what my swing speed is . Which of their available models for lefties would you suggest. I have those Vfoil MCs you mentioned but they just are too big to look at and beat to a pulp. LOL And what about a driver ? What is a good option.? Thanks for the cool video. Great insight into the world of club design. I will check out the website.

    • @McGolf

      good club just not for a 1 length.

    • @geebee3d
      @geebee3d 3 года назад +1

      The weight progression of the STi2 will not work well for a single length set. The heads for a single length set are designed to all weigh the same. Heads for conventional irons are progressively heavier (3-PW) so as the shafts get shorter, the swing weight will stay the same.
      For that reason, I would avoid using conventional heads for a single length set.

    Hey buddy I got a question for ya, after 15 years of punishment from golf I finnally realized I can only hit a deep face driver, currently I'm hitting FT5, I have a flat swing only 85 mph and swing to put the sweet spot on the club to get my 230-240 yd drives, so I brought a low cost Cleveland XL Clubhead only that glues in, now the hunt is on for a Used Shaft 335 tip for that baby, any shaft suggestions.
