    I've been doin it without issue. Most people drive round trip to work 30-40miles. 1. Plug in every night to top off. It takes a long time to charge. You don't want to be caught with a low charge. 2. Choose the right electrical utility plan for your city provider. The peak times can be more than double the price per kw. 3. Charge off-peak. Take advantage of the off-peak settings in the car software.

    I held out until my Level 2 is installed - surprisingly its working just fine since I only have a 16 mile commute! But charging is slow about 5mph - still way cheaper then using the Tesla Superchargers since at home rate is $0.14 - vs $0.25-48kW

  • @socalrefrigeration548
    @socalrefrigeration548 3 года назад +1

    There is a possible long-term danger to plugging into a 110V outlet. Most residential builds have all the outlets in a section of the house in series. The wires are also generally the cheapest possible with 15A rating. If your charging 12A and happen to have anything else on that circuit that could generate 3A or more you're going to have issues. EIther the breaker will continue to trip or the wires will run hot. Over time these romex wires will overheat to the point of melting the insulation. This is now a fire or a break in the line. That is why its code to have any major appliance (AC, dishwasher, laundry, electric stove) have its own circuit. If you plan to live where you're at for many years it's worth the investment to have an electrician install a dedicated circuit for your electric charging. Just make sure you shop around with all the local licensed electricians. Assuming your panel can handle it and it doesn't require tearing down all the drywall I'd expect a bid of less than $1000. I had mine done for $600.

    This is why I’m getting an electrician to assess my situation before I get an EV. I’ll need a dedicated circuit but I don’t know if the circuit box can handle it. And then I have to run a line from the house to the alley. The line would have to be in a conduit and the distance makes just that part a $500 job. I’m pretty sure the entire job is going to be more than $1000 but I’m going to see what incentives are available to help with installation.

      @@AndreReese.BizLLC I checked. Just the wire from the circuit box to the alley is $500, excluding labor and a conduit. And the box is 40 years old. The electrician says the box is in good shape but I know If it goes any longer, I'd be running it to failure. A 200 amp box is $3000. On the other hand, my wife hates the tech of the Tesla and doesn't want to drive it. Keeping her or if the driver's seat is a big plus. Lol

    We have a Nema 10-30 outlet, and bought an adapter that accepts a Nema 14-50 which came with the Telsa Mobile Charger. I am fairly certain we are getting over two hundred miles of charge, maybe two hundred and a forty, after eight to ten hours of charging. Which means we are generating twenty to twenty-four Amps per hour for a M3 |Dual-Motor |AWD |LR. This means we have around three hundred miles of range every morning…

    I'm in the unfortunate position of having a home with only a 100amp fuse box because my home was built in 1985. I had some licensed electricians come and take a look. I will have to upgrade my fuse box to a 200amp to install a 250v nema outlet in my garage. Which would cost me a few thousand. I have long commutes but have tesla superchargers near my home and halfway to my work. Was thinking I'll charge at home after work then charge for 15 to 20 mins at a supercharger on the way to work. Wondering if that's doable or if that will degrade the battery. Looking at model 3 long range.
    I got a second licensed electrician to come and take a look at my house and fuse box. Turns out I actually don't need an unnecessary 200amp upgrade. I explained what appliances I have and I also remembered that all my major appliances are natural gas expect for my dryer that pulls 24amps. So only 24 amps pulling from a 100amp fuse box will have plenty of amps left over for a 14-50 240v 50 amp outlet. Ordered my model 3 long range and looking at mar 12 - mar 31 pick up date. CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Thanks for the message! Epic on getting the new ride! I have heard that supercharging and topping off the battery degrades it more rapidly over time. I would say charge with 110 when you can at home, and drive and figure the rest out. The supercharges charge you now, and they have premium times of the day. Just do some experimentation, and after about 2-week you will see ifs worth it to upgrade at home. Let me know how things turn out. Be sure to subscribe!

    I had been trying the 110V outlet and it always give me an error message on the Model 3 screen, something like "Bad charging equipment...". Is it true that if the outlet does not have it ground properly wired, Tesla will detect it and give such error message?

    • @AndreReese.BizLLC
      @AndreReese.BizLLC  3 года назад

      Yikes! I don't own a Tesla, my girlfriend does. What I found with watching a ton of youtube videos is that if the wiring has any issues, that may potentially cause a fire, the Tesla detects those and won't charge. If you take your charger and use it on another 110 outlets and it works, then it's probably the wiring/circut. If the problem still happens, it probably the plug. If you isolate it to your wiring, then call an electrition to see if it can be fixed. Be safe and please subscribe.
