- I actually got out of the house and visited fellow youtuber Graham Stephan at his home in Las Vegas. Many people don't know, but Graham's roots in the coral reef aquarium industry go way back and after a long hiatus he's finally back in the hobby! Graham's 310-gallon reef aquarium is coming together great and I look forward to seeing how it progresses from here. Special thanks to Graham for inviting me out and to Harkins Aquatics for taking me around town all weekend!

Thank you Graham for inviting me out to see your tank! It is looking great. I had a great time in Las Vegas (special thanks to Patreon member Harkins Aquatics for driving us around all weekend)!
Love the video! Did you guys film Andrew’s 600g from sin city corals? I seen the pic of you guys together on his fb.
@@VegasReefer we did go film that reaf as well.
@Tidalgardens I would do it anytime.
LOVE this conversation, Graham is so down to earth. I couldn't disagree more on lighting, the cost of a handful of leds and a controller board/driver HAS gone up as much as the average coral.
He’s the grifter that promoted and profited off FTX and other crypto companies that went bankrupt then deleted videos!
I love that Graham pointed out a huge issue with the hobby today. Frag prices. Its gotten ridiculous
Great video, Than. Do more of these!
Than I've always know you were big time but having Graham Stephan on your channel officially puts you at big baller status! Congratulations brother!!
Wow, thanks!
My ol pal Graham! We had a lot of fun on the old reef central and AIM days and Dave’s fragswaps. Miss you bud.
No way! Ali! Been forever. Those were the days! I still keep in touch with Dave, too!
@@GrahamStephan I’m so incredibly proud of you Graham! So stoked to see you doing so awesome. I’ll hit you up on insta.
Now THAT is a nice looking tank!!!
He's absolutely right about not cleaning the sock if trying to raise nutrients. Also burnt tips, low nutrients and high alk 👍 yep. I keep my SPS between .1 and .2 phosphate with 20 plus nitrate = Healthy thick skin acros.
Facts.... Everybody with this 2-5 nitrates... Way too low... About 20-30 gives you good leeway. Phosphates 0.06 to 0.15... can't go wrong. There are guys running 1ppm phosphates.... And still getting calcification of their SPS. It depends on what your mature tank is stable at .... Don't chase numbers
@@douglasachaiba7885 .... absolutely! I've got humongous acro colonies and I'm always between the .05 to .2 phosphate.
@@douglasachaiba7885 ....I'd rather have slightly elevated phosphate than low nitrate. Just like you said....gives no leeway.
Great to see you doing tank tours.
It is nice to get some travel in when I can.
Nice video!! Thank you for such a good time over Black Friday
Love this- Thank you so much! Love this video! I also wanted some fish- but were jumpers! I used Octo Lids for my tank. Best thing I did. Does not cut down on the light getting into the tank at all. You give them the measurement of your tank, any cut-out for pumps you need. Highly recommend them. I have had no issues.
Wait, does Graham watch ALL the reefing RUclips channels?! Love the tank. It's filled in great!
I do!
@@GrahamStephan even Bahama Llama who posted the comment?
@@jmdelira87 haha 🙂
@@GrahamStephan badass dude!
Two of my favorite youtubers
Well done. I saw your setup video and was highly skeptical of how it'd turn out. Tank looks great and I think leaving the tank to it's own devices and keeping your hands out of it has allowed it to grow in very naturally. Very pleasing look, especially compared to most 18 m/o tanks!
For sure. We have tanks that are older that haven't grown that fast.
Great video guys! Tank is looking really good, Graham!
Great to see two pros discuss issues and concerns on a awesome tank
Great video, and well done showcasing. graham has an amazing tank.
This is a great video. I have subscribed to Graham's channel to make money to buy coral. Having you do this video with him brings everything full circle for me lol.
Great interview, beautiful tank Graham!
I love the video. I’ve seen Grahams videos and seeing you two together is really nice.
The comment about the brown junk corals brought back many memories. I had kept a saltwater tank back in the 1980s and everything was wild. The Internet was still new, and I remember following a webpage that talked about taking clippings off of mushrooms to propagate them. I actually tried this myself and ended up with multiple brownish bluish mushrooms.
It’s amazing how far we have come. (I miss the plain old smooth mushroom) lol
I also love how you talk about which corals might grow too fast and hit the glass and different tips along this line. Thank you for the critique on such a beautiful aquarium. It gives us all ideas and thoughts to keep in mind while we are stocking our own tanks.
OMG my two favorite RUclipsRS !!!!
I remember when you helped out at RM. I used to go to Walt once a month for my online business. Wish WS was still around, haven't seen Dave or any of the other folks from there in years, all those 5$ brown outs from the last couple of bins, the "dried" live rock out back... Purple monsters are still pricey though.
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE! LETS GOOOO
two of my Fav's in one vid!
I have heard that Graham is taking some killer macro shots (maybe even better then tidal gardens)! 😉😇✌️
Fantastic tank.
Alan's Aquarium in Venice, CA!
Those were the guys who had me hooked on saltwater reefing! :)
Sad news when they closed down :(
Yes, I would love to see your build process and stocking of an LPS only tank.
Great video!!!
It’s funny that Graham would be in the marine aquarium hobby with how frugal he is.
he's a vulture capitalist that makes people homeless for a living
I’m a Graham subscriber, this was a very nice interview, I also enjoy fish keeping, currently into fresh water but one day I would like to have a reef tank
Thanks for watching! It's a fun hobby, you can get started for relatively "cheap" too - plenty of used tanks on Facebook Marketplace, and going with a 50 gallon would be fairly cost effective buying used!
yes, I have discus now, but I had salt water when people wear using under ground filter.
He could do a slim canopy that attached to the wall and suspended by thin wires at the end...
It would look cleaner than the exposed lights and stands on the tank and the view obstruction would be minimal It would provide a more overall aesthetically pleasing first impression.
Sand works as a natural buffer, you will notice that not only will it keep swings in check but it will also keep alkaline much more stable. There are so many ways and creatures to keep it sifted as the only issue I've ever come across seems to be a dioxide build up..
I have had Stony corals bleach out and die, I stuck the skeleton In the sand for atleast a month, once taken back out of the sand it will regrow tissue. 🤫
Ah the good o purple monster! I still grow those 😂
No way! That's amazing, I'm glad it's still around. How big is the colony?
I remember seeing this tank set up with coral 12g I believe. A berry nice!! ⚡💅💪
Yet again Great video
Thank you!
Lol I was just thinking when gram was going to do a video of this like yesterday lol but thanks tidal garden thanks
You are welcome!
Love it when my hobbies cross streams
Than such great videos, love the jacket and the bow-tie! Classy! Wish you wee in Canada.
The bow tie thing is a new thing. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do but I've got a collection going.
@@tidalgardens very handsome.
As successful as graham is, he seems like a really chilled out down to earth dude.
He was super nice in person.
His calcium is being depleted because the sand. It is solidifying itself. That sand hasn't been moved in a long time u can tell by how dark it is on top. Settled sand tends to do that if it's like his is most likely Along the sides of the rock structures that's where it usually starts but I've found it in the mid sand area too.
Love seeing Than on the road haha
It is nice to get out every now and again.
Better yank those pocilloporas! I had the same problem and once a frag stung (and killed) an acro frag, I immediately got rid of every single pocillopora in the tank
Very interesting collaboration! Huge fan of both of these channels! I do find it crazy that graham doesn’t want high end coral as opposed to softies. Nothing more annoying than a leather or a toadstool growing to an astronomical size. Pretty ugly when they are big like that. But I also know that graham is super cheap so
Dream reef ❤️
I bought an aptasia eating file fish and it ate it within a couple days and keeps it in check
I have never kept one. I was always worried that it would eat coral.
The problem Graham described at 16:00 is easily patched by creating a schedule with a timer/wifi plug to turn off the equipment at midnight and turn it back on a minute later. Since I started doing this, my EcoTech equipment hasn't had any connectivity issues. EcoTech should definitely fix this, but until they do, this is a good solution.
Such a great video - Than rocks esp when discussing aiptasia
Which reminds me, I still need to figure out an aiptasia farming tank to produce enough for berghia farming. It's harder than it sounds.
Great video, I don’t know why but I’ve always thought Than to be on the shorter height side, until I watched this video of him next to Graham lol
I am 6' tall.
"Green and Brown garbage" 😲😕😆
Great episode! Really enjoyed it.
We are spoiled now. Everything is a rainbow. When I started, it was ONLY brown and you were searching for hints of green.
@@tidalgardens oh I know. You're absolutely right! Green was the go to color. I know what you meant though. Just thought it was funny. You've got great content my friend. Keep them coming m
hello, I'm French and the bac is really beautiful and I think the rendering of ecotech is marvelous 👍
LEDs are improving on that front. Before they were very bad for photography/videography. I hope they continue to improve.
@@tidalgardens thank you very interesting to know it are dice version pro or pro blue
I love this guy so much more now i know he's a reef head!!
You never know who is into this hobby like that. It is always great when you find out you have a shared interest with someone.
My magnesium tests were way off like 250 ppm between 2 different test kits. I had to use reference solutions to resolve the correct number. Low mag can causes all kinds of downstream problems with calcium and alk.
Testing the tester is a good practice.
i’ve learbed my lesson on palys & leather corals too 😅
Love this guys attitude & personality 🙌🏻 how did he make his money?
hes a property investor
I have same issues with my ecotech radions, factory reset and calibrate each spectrum fixed my issue.
Nice. I think part of my issue is I have so many running in the same space. I probably have over 100 units in my new building and sometimes I have to fiddle with the programming when one misbehaves.
@@tidalgardens with that in mind I would not want to factory reset each unit that would take forever haha. Love the tank tours keep it up! :)
I would keep those Pandoras, just as a trophy :)
Graham, you mentioned you keep your salinity at 1.027. Any reason why or benefits you’ve noticed in doing so?
nice
I also live in Vegas and our choices for LFS aren't great, it sucks. I wish we had more options!
Aquatic Treasures / Sin City Corals have been great! Definitely nowhere near the selection of places like LA / Florida, though.
@@GrahamStephan Aquatic Treasures I go to every weekend to just see what's going on. I'll check out Sin City Corals though. Thanks man!
always feels weird when ppl use the term aquascape on a reef tank but damn its a nice looking tank
He clearly has the money to get toplids to build a custom cover
Did you do his podcast or channel. I heard George coral fish 12g on it and it was really interesting
I didn't. I am super boring.
Everything in this video is snazzy
I wonder if his mag is low if he can’t keep his alk up?
I had trouble with my lights acting up. It turned out my ap700s fans were dying. I had to mount external fans to supplement cooling.
That is one worry I have about lighting fixtures. I would much rather a beefy heat sink rather than relying on cooling fans.
Graham multi kagillionaire, is gonna buy a kit for the lid haha, plz graham buy a custom lid for that beast
This is a old vid but i use metal halide and still have to use a heater people barely use metal halide and ive come across others that also still use halide
Nice tank ,I like more mix and natural tanks more rhan just sps
man what happened to gham's phantom clowns, copperband, regal angel, etc?
What rock did he use?
Is there a lot of humidity from the tank being so big?
Nope! The room is big enough that I don't notice it!
I have two Zoa frags in my tank and one has been three polyps for almost a year and I’ve been keeping it alive by a hair, while the other has covered the rock it’s on, maybe it’s my god damn tangs tho
What return pump is he using?
Abyzz A200
Graham can you do a investment review of Tidal Gardens
Gotta say with lights I say the Kessil AP9X wins. It has great coverage and shimmer, and the software is easy to use. Plus the Kessils are basically stupid proof.
I feel like one reason in getting a saltwater tank is so you can talk about it with other saltwater tank keepers haha.
I am old school and still like metal halides !
Damn this guy looks so much like Tom Holland. I keep waiting for him to say to "We did it Mr. Stark"
Really surprised to hear that dipping corals and quarantine of new fish is not de rigour. Why take that risk?
Wasn’t he running gen 5 lights?
I don't know. The 5's are also upgradeable to 6's too
👍
Why 1.027? Seems too high
not sure, I never run my tank above 1.025 and I was wondering that too.
Teach me to finance a bigger aquarium pls
Absolutely about the cyanide! Fact!
!!!!!!!!!!!
Just btw Graham , the piano shouldn't be standing in the sun. It's really bad for it, even if the ambient air temp and humidity is stable.
Fingers crossed and touch wood - I have 2 years and no aiptasia
Ditch the softies
This is brought to you by FTX. 😂
Than and Tom Cruise!
Wow Graham Stephan is short or than is way tall
I am 6' tall.
@@tidalgardens so both I guess lol
AI BLADES HAVE FANTASTIC CONTROL APP FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO UPGRADE🐠💙🐟💖
I remember my first job payed $1hr.
Was a dollar then worth $20 now? 🤑
So a finance guru has a reef tank. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Because unfortunately my tank was not a good investment financially it is a great investment spiritually, but financially I’m not so sure. seems like that would be step one in the saving money rulebook don’t buy a reef tank. I’m just kidding though you can’t put a price on love.
Lol Wayne, so true. However, if you ever get divorced, I will assure you that she will put a price on love 🤣.
Pour superglue over the babies of the Pocillopora cover the entire coral and smother it. That will get rid of the ridiculous amount of that species. And it’s irritating, spreading capabilities.🍾
FOOT!
Great video!
