The day after this (21-5-81) I saw them In milan, the best concert of my life. Forever in my heart, forever in my mind, thanks for posting, Mauri Clash City Rocker
the concert at the Stadthalle in Wien was during the Radio Clash tour, 2nd October 1981. The concert at the Vigorelli in Milan was during the Mission Impossible tour, 21th of May 1981. Anyway, they ws both amazing!
First time I went to a tribute to The Clash, the cover band was awesome (Plebe Rude - a punk Brazilian band), it took place in the beginning of 2014. When the vocal started singing this song, I went mad. He was really awesome, I wondered how might be my reaction if I could attend The Clash's concerts in 80's. In thr beginning of 2019, they repeated the tribute , it was awesome too!!!
Dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest movies on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my girlfriend these days :)
Song "Card Cheat" from London Calling, pure diamond.. No matter they never performed this song live, but all songs which Mick Jones sing are fabulous. And on album Sandinista, song "Hitsvill in UK" were sang by Mick Jones (second lower voice) and his then girlfriend Ellen Foley..
Hateful66 ,thanks for upload ...Don't see much live '81 footage (London Lyceum a few months later was the best time I saw them).....when 'the return of Rhodes' was a good idea- Bonds ,Times Square.....
Holy shit Joe is actually playing a Strat instead of a Tele! Mick always used Les Paul's but they were either Juniors or Customs, this one is a Deluxe with mini humbucker pickups. I wonder why their instruments are different? By the way I like this live version better than the original recording lol.
***** I found out the reason they are using different instruments from what they usually used was because their equipment was still in customs haha. Also I think there's a few songs of theirs that sound better live, they were definitely one of the best live bands.
That 'Strat' has the neck and middle p/us removed and what looks like a humbucker at the back. I remember Joe was also playing that guitar (on some numbers and some nights at least) at the Lyceum shows later in '81. It's kind of ugly for a Strat--natural finish and the big 70s headstock--it didn't last long. He also had a dodgy looking Tele--kind of an orange colour, with a metal pick guard. He wasn't a connoisseur. The Esquire he played a lot in '79-'80 was nice though.
Just listen how Topper highlights all the changes and accents in guitars song theme parts by playing with simple feelings for opens the hi-hat. And then they bring Pete Howard to play the same song and he destroys it with his flat playing. It's a matter of feeling with the drummers, either you have it or you don't. Topper was complet pack drummer..
Went to see The Clash twice, 1980 & 1981, they were fuckin amazin, the energy from the stage was transmited in to crowd and thrown back at them, it was like one "big fuck" off wave!
L B ....eventually he may have But he possibly 'made them' as well .. Combat Rock (Cut the Crap obviously) not great ....'The Clash' still sounds great -Joe Strummer on Rhodes "meeting Bernie was the best bit of luck in my life" - & that was after 'everything '
hahahaha, gotta love that quote, ran across it on "the future is unwritten" :P bernie was a bit of a tool, but they wouldnt have been what they were with out him
I know really huh?? Because the Fender Stratocaster guitar is more known for its solo playing performances but since Joe Strummer was only a rhythm guitar player, the Telecaster seemed to be more of his style.
Cool band . worst teeth in rock and roll history. All of em. Even super cool paul simonon . Are mick and elvis Costello brothers. Buddy hollys children ??
I love his effect over use but I really hate Joe's bizarre screams from 1980 and onwards, I wish that the other guys had told him to be quiet if he dont have any words to sing 🥺
Clash is one of those bands you get to tell your children "I was proud they existed while I was alive."
The greatest band of all times!! Rip Joe Strummer - gone but not forgotten!!! My utmost respect to Mick Jones who sings awesomely this song!!!

Hasta siempre comandantes honor y.gloria con the clash
Hateful66 ,thanks for upload ...Don't see much live '81 footage (London Lyceum a few months later was the best time I saw them).....when 'the return of Rhodes' was a good idea- Bonds ,Times Square.....

antonius augustus noticed that and was amazed lol
I think this song sounds much better live (likr some songs from Sandinista)

antonius augustus interesting story 😀
Along with The Who, Ramones and Motorhead my favourite live band
***** I haven't listened to much Motorhead, but I 100% agree with The Who and the Ramones. Those guys really put on a hell of a show.

@@trixturrr bydlím cca 100 km od Vídně, v roce 1981 nebyla šance se tam dostat
@DaveParanoia
Their intruments were lost in paris, where tey playd before so they borrowed instruments from a local music store
vienna is different:)
Les Paul deluxe with mini humbuckers, mick sounds really good wielding it!
I've never seen Joe play a Strat. WTF?Thanks for posting. Best band ever!!!!!!!
Best version of the song
This is the best version of "somebody", yeah! that expandid sound....
LOVE The Clash but please remember no NY Dolls/Ramones/Iggy/MC5 then no Clash/Pistols/etc - don't forget a nod and a wink to the Punk Gods...
The only band that ever mattered
Haha I know! I'm used to seeing him with a telecaster. Still knows how to give 'em hell with it though!
Classic!
the only band that matters

What is up with Mick Jones mic here? Weird sound. But cool.
Bernie... He invented punk.
The Clash were known to use a Fender Telecaster not a Stratocaster!
can't top that..couldn't agree more
Right mate. Was like a wall of sound hitting you in the chest. Could feel your insides vibrating!
Went to see The Clash twice, 1980 & 1981, they were fuckin amazin, the energy from the stage was transmited in to crowd and thrown back at them, it was like one "big fuck" off wave!
The clash and their cosmic fuck off wave SLINGSHOT,,, right back at em,
My favorite clash song
Not seen this before thanks
I was there, Joe plays strat because the equipment truck got stuck on the road, so they had to borrow guitars.

Unusual guitar choice for Joe.
Apparently their equipment was help up at customs.

Bernie Rhodes you son of bitch you crash The Clash!
"That's Bernie Rhodes, he invented punk.... It's obviously to much for him" hahaha, oh the irony. Pitty he destroyed the band
L B ....eventually he may have
But he possibly 'made them' as well .. Combat Rock (Cut the Crap obviously) not great ....'The Clash' still sounds great
-Joe Strummer on Rhodes "meeting Bernie was the best bit of luck in my life" - & that was after 'everything '

bernie was a bit of a tool, but they wouldnt have been what they were with out him
mick sounds a little drunk
Good that Joe is performing in his country
Im sorry but joe doesnt look right playing a strat......he looks good with his tele
I know really huh?? Because the Fender Stratocaster guitar is more known for its solo playing performances but since Joe Strummer was only a rhythm guitar player, the Telecaster seemed to be more of his style.
Dude, he looks good with any fucking guitar, but yes, looks more cool with his tele
some band
maybe a little they had some great nights and some shitty nights
