Personally as a Canadian who visited both places I really admire both of them but If I had to choose the most interesting one I would go with Sidi Bou Said. I think it's simply because Sidi Bou Said is a historic town that wasn't rebuilt or adjusted much and modernized over time. It's an ongoing old piece of art that represents one of the most unique architectures in the world which is the Andalusian architecture. The history of the houses, the buildings and the streets is what makes the place more interesting and different. I was thinking about places to visit this summer and glad that your video popped up to me because I think I would love to revisit Tunisia again.
I am British, and some friends told me about the splendor of this beautiful country, its civilization, its history, its cultural heritage, its distinctive diversity, its tolerant and friendly people, as well as the characteristics of its cuisine and the unique diversity of nature therein. Tunisia is a beautiful country -- from a Libyan guy - I love this country- I hope you have done more research about the country. A lot of amazing places all over Tunisia.
I think Santorini and Sidi Bou Said are quite different honestly. The common point between the two is the white and blue color theme + Mediterranean. But the architecture of Sidi Bou Said is typically North African (the doors, arches, mosaics etc) and it's a town with an old history. Not a recent touristic spot. The white and blue was already present before French colonization as seen in the paintings of Eugene de Lacroix but it was more heterogonous (not all houses were painted that way). But it was the Baron d'Erlangers who asked for all houses to be painted white and blue in the early 1900s. I'd say some of the houses of Djerba look more similar to Santorini than Sidi Bou Said houses do. PS: the bambalouni is not related to french beignet. They're actually probably of Andalusian origins. Variations of it exist in all the Maghreb countries (for example sfenj in Morocco) and legend says it was invented by accident when an Andalusian baker dropped dough in a hot pan of oil! History of Blue and white in the world : Santorini greece: 20 years Chefchaouen morocco : 7 years Sidi bou said tunisia : 150 years !! Never compare the original with copies thanks
Sorry to contradict you, Santorini was blue and white way more than 20 years ago. I've always been asking myself, which one copied the other and intuitively thought the original was the Greek aegean Islands simply because it is much widely used in hundreds of islands, where Sidi Bou Said would be one districts of the few that you would typically find on one many average Greek islands. However, a Tunisian historian claimed in a French TV documentary that it was upon the return of the Bey from a visit to the greek islands that he decided to adopt the Blu and white. I couldn't find a trace of this documentary. Other sources, easily searchable, claim that it was the Baron d'Erlanger that suggested the blu and white rule. Anyway, it is definitely a successful and authentic cultural influence that many Mediterranean countries exchanged. I don't know about Morocco. Enjoy anyway!

I've already made that response before elsewhere. The blue-white theme only became a thing in Sidi Bou Said in the 1920s after a French Baron built the palace that's now a museum using those two colours. The village (or at least its colours) was later styled after that palace. As for Santorini. First off, Santorini is an Island with multiple villages and the architecture used falls more or less in the same category of architecture used on other Cycladic islands. Houses on Santorini were built using the abundant pumice on the vulcanic island. Pumice is dark, which means it absorbs heat like crazy. Thus people painted their houses white (but originally, and some still do, also some other bright colours), so it's more of a practical solution than an aesthetic decision. The blue only became a thing with the Greek independence (a nationalist symbol) in the 1830s. Later the use of blue and white even became mandatory on the Cycladic islands in the 1930s. I don't know about Chefchaouen. Also, what do you mean copies? Civilization came to be both in the Americas (on two different places), China, India, Mesopotamia and Egypt without any "copying". It was developed separately. The use of blue and white outside of architecture is probably goes back even further. Also, Hannibal wasn't Tunisian, he was Carthaginian/(western) Phoenician/Punic. That would be an example of appropriation.
To be honest, I enjoy making historical research about orgines of certain elements of culture (architecture, music, language, food...) I naturally don't tend to spend too much energy to prove what the REAL origin is. It is often difficult, pointless and in many cases, especially for older civilisations, it is the result of a cumulation of many cultures... I don't get any pride proving how Tunisian, Japanese or Swedish a popular food is, I enjoy knowing the history behind it in its different versions even when they are contradictory (except the stupid narionalistic ones, and many are)

Tunisia is a beautiful country. I hope to visit soon. Welcome to Algeria, the continent. We are honored by you 🇩🇿🇹🇳
algeria is a country not a continent
@@marwenfarhat I know, but Algeria is called the continent, due to its large area, diversity of climate, and the beauty of its nature.
@@medreda8134 Africa must be a county in the continent of ''Algeria'' then
they taught us wrong 🤦🏻♂
@@marwenfarhat Understand, my brother, do not be ignorant, my words are very understandable, peace 😉
@@medreda8134 so i'm ignorant bcoz i said Algeria is a country not a continent? well we'll let the ppl decide who's the ignorant abt that
and don't tell me bcoz it's big
there's a lot of bigger countries than Algeria and they didn't dare to call their country a continent
show off
Am sudanesa and my future wife she is Tunisian, her country soo adorable and beautiful 🇸🇩🇸🇩🇹🇳🇹🇳

هذه هيا بلاد الجميلة واصل في الإستكشاف❤️🇹🇳
Hello Doug from Tunisian lives in Australia ... I am very pleased to watch your videos about my country 😁 keep up the good work man 🙂
I can't believe you missed the most famous place which called "cafe Des délices" in the middle of sidi bou said which has the best views 😓❤️ love from Tunisia 🇹🇳
It's weird to see these places on RUclips I'm like over there every day, I'm happy you enjoyed your time at Tunis, This is amazing.
Thank you much Dougy; its gorgeous! When you next head to Egypt Red Sea areas (Sokhna, Sharm, etc); or North Coast (Marina, etc) you should show them Sidi Bou Sa’eed as the aesthetic template to use for their Communities - instead of those “cookie cutter” concrete eye sores.
Only El Gouna - has the Sidi Bou Sa’eed level of “Mykonos” (Actually - Venice Beach!) laid back beauty.
Welcome to our beautiful country hope that u had a good time we still have more and more beautiful places you can visit and enjoy it I'm so glad for your visit enjoy your time
Omg you missed the best views of Sidi Bou Said! All the way at the top, there is a cafe overlooking a spectacular view. Amazing video regardless, so glad to see you enjoying your time there
Where is this sidi bou??
In somalia ???
