  • A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a cane corso dog after it and three pit bulls attacked a man in the city's Mantua neighborhood.
It happened on Wednesday around 10:16 a.m. on the 3900 block of Fairmount Avenue.
Police said the incident began when a witness pointed out the pack of dogs to an officer on patrol.
Disturbing video, which police are using in their investigation, shows the man fighting back against the four loose dogs. #philadelphia #fyp

No one said he was being punished or fired. Any time a cop uses their weapon they are placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation. No matter how obvious it was that this cop was in the right, he still has to go through the procedure. In a few days he will back on the job, he will also probably get a commendation for saving the life of the man and his own dog.

I suppose that’s one way to look at it. The way I see it is: if a dog thinks he can or wants to kill you, he’s been horribly trained and mistreated and not given the respect and care he deserves… and if he does kill you, it’s your fault. If he kills someone else, it’s your fault. If you can’t handle that type of responsibility, it’s your fault AND you need to rehome him before you do too much damage to him, rather than abandoning him on the streets to go feral.
This is just absolutely tragic. Cane Corsos are amazing animals and do not have any instinct for human aggression. Whatever happened to this dog and his pit bull pack mates that put them on the streets in an attack frenzy needs to be figured out and responsible parties need to be held accountable.

@@goldeneagle99cane corsos are typically not a dangerous breed. They are a giant breed, so they can be a lot to handle and definitely are not dogs to just buy and think all you have to do is feed them, BUT they aren’t known to be aggressive. They are a working breed, so they have a lot of drive and energy. And you can train them for protection or guardian work or service work, but they don’t innately have an aggressive streak. They are a mastiff breed of dog. Generally gentle giants around humans and have a track record of being amazing companions.
Now if a Cane gets whipped into a frenzy because it’s been left to go feral, it can, like any dog in that situation, attack… and if a dog as big as a Cane attacks, it’s a very serious life or death situation. The same would be true for a Great Dane or an English Mastiff, or any of the other mastiff breeds: they aren’t innately dangerous, but if mistreated and neglected and abused and abandoned, their size and strength makes them a real threat.

Investigate the owners, make sure the owners and the residents history wasn't a cause for why the dogs to act out this way and if the dogs had any certain conditions before hand.
It's mainly to know what they're dealing with if they find the other dogs, and if they need to put them down. As well as find and decide what part the owner had with raising them and if they should be charged.
One thing for sure tho, the officer will not be held accountable. He did what he had to save a innocent life.
Not saying the owner or dogs are justified, but we don't truly know what caused them to act out or if it was just a random act. What is the point of the "identify" part of your comment? It clearly sounds like using a completely unrelated event to say something humorous against trans people. Maybe learning about the biology behind gender could serve you some good.
Everyone identifies as male or female depending on how they are biologically wired, which is the sex of the brain, with a rare small number showing a mix of male and female. Typically all sexed organs match up, but that is not always the case.
If you're a male and get in a terrible accident and lose all of your downstairs organs, you wouldn't magically stop identifying as a male, because the sex you are biologically wired as is in the brain. Everything else is the equipment you are given to carry out that biological functioning, but these things don't always match up.
I bet you would be really shocked to know that males can have XX chromosomes, females XY, and some people with variations like XXY or XXX.
Look up intersex or disorders of sex development. Only a very small number of trans people are "mental", aka wanting to be something they're not. The majority have a type of disorder of sex development (intersex) and actually are biologically wired as the gender they identify as as seen in brain studies, but with a horrible genetic disorder that causes them to have the equipment of the opposite gender.
It's sad how completely oblivious people are to how complex the biology of gender is. It's not black and white as nothing in biology is, which is why someone can be born with 6 fingers, conjoined twins, or an inability to ever feel a certain emotion, or born unable to ever have periods and give birth once puberty hits, or bprn blind, and so on and so on.

People tried that bs... where I live, but I wrote a certificate letter to the building management (retaining a copy for myself), informing them about the dangerous situation... I also, threatened legal action against them as well as informing our local news station about loose pitbulls on their property unless they corrected the behavior of said tenants. And guess what... those tenants all had their dogs on leashes while on the property and in the hallway by the next week!
P.S. I wrote the note as a concerned tenant. You do not have to disclose your identity... to keep yourself safe.
