I have been working on my own bows for years, but I have learned something from each of your videos. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Hey, Thanks for setting up my new RX4 for me yesterday!!! And all the great instruction and service! I know I had a Lot of questions about a Lot of different things! Always trying to learn! Keep up the Awesome work!
Thank you! You are consistently putting out really useful information and you deliver it really clearly. Thank you! This video covered a topic I've been wondering about for a few months as I experiment with new arrow set ups!
I have a short draw length. Everything says I should shoot 400 spine arrows but at 70#'s there way to much flex in the arrows so I just go with 340 and the fly great. Appreciate you taking the time to explain this stuff because Im just learning now how to build my arrows.
I’m a 27.5” draw and I use the same arrow for hunting and target. My arrow cut length is 27” and my insert/outsert is about 5/8”. I’m pretty comfortable running a fixed broadheads, but I could see it being an issue for some. Good content.
So on my hunting bow I cut my Easton Axis 1 inch over my draw length even though I use mechanicals. It doesn’t effect spine weight. On my target bow I cut my Pierce 400 arrows 1/2 inch past draw length.
We couldn't get to The Bow Rack this year from LC, OR but we will be there next July....Thank you for getting a family a 4 shooting together as a team:) y'all ROCK
I've been shooting for over 12 years now (self taught) and can't believe how much I've learned and how much I need to work on from your videos. Keep them coming! Also I'm having trouble finding your anchor point video? Thanks alot!
You're right about arrow length. This applies to the present day bows. However, I am still using my 1995 Hoyt Alfa Tech for hunting occasionally . It has a 3 inch overdraw and my draw length is 28 inches. A 25 to 27 inch arrow suits me fine and I have shot several wild boars within 75 feet distance. No problem at all. A shorter and lighter arrow fly faster.`Thanks for your review.
I have a draw length of 28" and when I first got arrows the shop cut mine to 29.5". They are still in the same spine range but is my only disadvantage really only speed if it is 1" longer than where it should be?
Hey I just started hunting with a bow went with bloodsport judgement arrow I'm at 55# 27 draw was Gunna use 38 grain brass incerts 100 grain broad head should I use 350 - 400 spine arrow
Great video. Question though, as long as my arrow is somewhere past my arrow shelf without being TOO far past it, will it matter too much if its maybe 1/4-1/2" one way or the other? Thanks!
Better to have it a litte to long than short imo. Better for consistensy to get the draw to your correct anchor point. Can also shorten the arrow if you want.
Not at close range, but at distance yes. Even if the arrows are the same spine, the shorter one will be stiffer and lighter causing it to react differently off the rest
Great video. I have a 32inch draw length, shooting a 55lb DW. What arrow do you recommend I use for hunting deer? Probably going to use a 100gr mechanical Broadhead.
When you were gradually cutting down your target arrow to stiffen it, you said you would pull the points, cut, shoot and repeat until satisfied. Did you have to glue the points each time or was the insert and point in without glue until you reached final length ?
I just had some arrows cut to 28.5. My arrows are 28 3/8 not counting the knock. They're are apparently cut to center of knock. So, I think im now 1/4in short. Is this a big deal?
I have a 2016 Hoyt Powermax that I use for hunting. I Want to switch to fixed blades… my draw length is 29.5 inches and I want the arrow to be about .5 inches out in front of the riser. The insert on the arrow I am ordering will add 15/16 of an inch. Does that mean I should order 29” arrows?
Without the nock. That is more or less what he suggests here, but if you want to check you can take an old arrow you already have and pull back in front of mirror or ideally have someone help you to see how far past the shelf your arrow is, and then mark/note where you want it and measure from there, carbon to carbon. Some people will take it clear back to just in front of their rest just make sure any outsert isn't sitting on the rest.
Question.....starting back with compound after a year off and a crossbow....shooting 30 inch, 62/64 lbs with fingers/tab (thought about release but like the feel of the string still) always used 4 inch veins....still recommended/good? And if so....I can't seem to find them anywhere (pre-made. I find factory glue superior in the past). Any input guys? thanks

So I purchased Easton traditional 500 spine and cut to 29inch with 100 grain tip.but honestly I'm not happy with that fly arrow. So should I switch to 600 spine?
Hi man, great videos. Question: ¿besides spine charts, How do you understand that the Spine is too weak? And can you actually be over-spined? isn’t it safer to just be a bit over?
How long should your arrow be? 2 inches longer than your draw length so you can't/won't cut yourself when drawing a broadhead. is my guess. That would also eliminate any excess arrow length. (Though I do remember years ago they had over-draw shelves so you could use a shorter than your draw length arrow with a broadhead without injuring yourself.)

Keep your fingers below the shelf on the bow and you have almost no risk of injury. Been shooting 40 years and went through the overdraw craze back in the 80-90's . Generally speaking, if the target arrow configuration I am looking at puts me right between a 340 or 400 spine, which way is better; an arrow slightly stiff or one a tad weak? Great video btw.
Go with the heavier spined arrow.
For someone wanting to know what length of arrow, chances are, they don't know many of the terms nor any of the model names. I got a recurve bow for Christmas. The last time I shot was 1975. You told me nothing which would help.
You’re like a first grade student that can’t read or write that mistakingly walked into a 5th grade class. Yet, you and your parents blame the teacher because you didn’t learn anything that day.

Hahaha that makes so much sense.
Are you the one on the untamed zack
No never heard of that
Mathews should make a bow ,,, just like the v3x 33 with the lower poundege ,,, 45 -55,,, ,,, why did they shorten up the Image ,, ATA ,,, or are they waiting tell next year to do it ?? A perfect bow would be a v3x 34 with an " 34 ATA" ,, and a draw # of 45-55 ,,,, I would buy one tomorrow ,,,
Just put the 60# mods on a V3X 33 and take one turn out of the limbs and it’s at 55#…
I have no clue why you’d have a practice bow and a hunting bow that are (clearly) entirely different set ups and Entirely different shafts. Why? This makes no sense to me at all. I was tracking with this video until that came up and nothing else made sense.
It’s not a practice bow and a hunting bow. I was talking about a target bow, set up for competition. Totally different than a hunting set up
@@InsideOutPrecision ohhhhh that makes way more sense. I need sleep haha long day
Oh yea 29 inch draw length and 60 pound pull.
It should hang an inch over your rest hope that saves you a bunch of time watching this 😂
One inch shorter than draw!!!!
what
I shoot 28" with a 27" arrow. Takes it back just before my rest
