    Correction for Jeongeun:
She actually placed 6th in the final voting, which would have made her eligible for debut if it were based on the votes.

I still feel like the fan favorite top6
Chanelle, Jeemin, Jiwoo, Minju, Yeongseo and Yunah would've been the strongest girl group of their generation if they had debuted together. Hybe really messed up the lineup inorder to match the preplanned concept of the debuted group. Such a great loss.
If they wanted they could've easily made 2 different groups out of the trainees. Each having a completely different concept. This top6 could've had a more mature concept (like bad girl good girl, given taken, bad boy,). And the 2nd group with Moka, Wonhee, Jeongeun, Seoyeon, Ena could've had the concept Illit has. But debuting 3-4 years later after more training since all of them have some department where they need more training.
Also a 3rd group could've been made with Iroha, Himena, Yuisa, Funa and Ruka for hybe Japan.

Underdeveloped and lack of vocal training in the pre-debut catch you off guard. Belift are aware of that now and providing heavy vocal training.
Wonhee even said in that Trivia interview on youtube that she wants to try other jobs like singer. But she had to work hard towards that goal. When I listened to her encores I was very disappointed because she was so strong in r u next as if she forgot how to sing.

    Before the video:
After Illit's debut, imo (as someone who didn't watch the show), it's clear that many of the talented contestants on RUNEXT didn't debut with Ill-it because they were not suitable for the concept no matter how talented they were. As well, like all survival singing shows, I believe shows puts contestants there they have no intention of debuting because
    1) They want to advertise talented trainees for future other shows (ex. See Dayeon from Kep1er on Produce, then during Girls Planet)
    2) Less talented trainees can use the show to either develop their skills or as a last chance
    3) Executives want to nail down a particular concept, but are unsure so use trainees with different strengths to test it out
I think the third option is what happened with RUNext, especially once trainees like Wonhee and Moka rose in popularity domestically. So while trainees like Jiwoo, Chanelle and Jeemin were no doubt talented, once the concept was nailed down behind the scenes it was already decided. Naturally, that's where the upset reaction from fans originated.
I also think reason 1 is currently why Jeemin and Jeongeun are on I-Land. Since Hybe was previously involved in the project, they likely know that the future group to come out of the show are going to fit their performance styles and strengths better. So they were sent there instead.
I will expand my comment once I finish the video.

    • @EKCristobal
      @EKCristobal  4 месяца назад +18

      I agree with the following:
      1. Correct. The best example among the trainees is the 12-year-old Ena. If HYBE wants to debut a trainee with the best potential to improve her vocal skills (might even surpass ILLIT’s Minju and NewJean’s Hanni vocally in the future), investing in Ena would be wise. The girl has so much untapped vocal talent. She just needs further training. Hoping that HYBE won’t let her go after all the vocal controversies lately.
      2. Agree. While not everyone can debut, the survival show ultimately became their solid training ground and achievement in honing their strengths and weaknesses.
      3. Yup. This idea is solidified with their concept mission as explained in Jeemin’s part.
Thank you for always giving your objective thoughts btw! Appreciate them always!

      Comments after watching the video:
I can't comment much on the talent of individual trainees, so I'm going to trust your analysis regarding their talent! I will add however that from the clips that I have seen of the show, a lot of the comments made towards certain trainees seemed to have been an effort to push a certain lineup no matter what. No disrespect to the Ill-it members, as this happens on literally every survival show or singing show (that I've watched at least).
Regarding Chanelle, her case reminds me a lot of Yunjin when she was on Produce. Being American, it's often encouraged to stand up for what you want, especially in a more competitive environment like a competition. Yunjin did so on Produce and got hate. Chanelle did similar, and experienced the same.
So, that kind of attitude seems to not be favorable in Korea, and it leads to the impression that she's immature and difficult to work with, when that may not have been the case BTS. I remember seeing a clip of that particular performance on TT, and distinctly remember a judge commenting that she was "off-key". I hope that's a mistranslation, and they probably meant she didn't mesh well with the group/concept? Which I can understand. Not everyone fits every concept.
Either way, I hope she continues on her path as an idol or singer in the future.

@@EKCristobal I get the feeling Hybe is going to focus on developing more vocally talented groups in the future after the backlash against Lesserafim for their Coachella performance. Ena would be a great addition to a more vocally focused group! I'm curious to see how she does in (hopefully) 3 or 4 years, as that's typically the time between new group debuts. 🤔

@@goldyd144Ah yes, Yunjin in Produce 48 almost 6 years ago. Thank you for reminding me. And yes, the judges commented Chanelle being off-key with their SSFWL performance. While we still appreciate her, she was really down that time that it unfortunately affected her performance. Even in their rehearsals and the interim check, she did struggle. I hope too that Chanelle will ultimately find the path that’s for her in this lifetime.

the judges consistently sabotaged jiwoo. they would criticize her vocals when there were no clear problems with them, and when in fact (as you said, she has the best technique on the show). they would also do this while ignoring major vocal flaws in other members of her own groups, and praise those members instead for "having potential". she consistently stood out, holding her ground as both a vocalist and dancer, but the judges always criticized her for nonexistent mistakes or simply didn't mention her at all. i think that made it hard for a lot of people to understand her skills, and it also made it abundantly clear that she didn't fit the image the judges (and the company) wanted for illit. honestly i think it's horrible that they put her through this show, clearly knowing she wasn't what they wanted. especially as a somewhat older trainee, it wasted her time and I'm sure had an impact on her mental wellbeing.

@@19_tmqRight, it all comes down to vocal ability for balance. I think in this case because the debut is an unestablished identity they went for a title track that will go viral for general public in all ages.
Illit starts from zero. Have no fans from other popular groups to support them or what MHJ did with NewJeans she reached out to SM stans to support them and become Bunnies immediately and surpassed IVE's and Le Sserafim's IZ*ONE fanbase in terms of subscribers. TXT got support from ARMY for example. Enhypen was very popular from i-land.
But in the future I think we will see songs that benefit the members to sing with live vocals. Virality for the debut was to find new fans somewhere. Belift are now providing them heavy vocal training when promotion period is over.

i feel like looking at illit and their concept Jeongeun and himena would be better options instead of moka and yunah, Yunah is too slayful for their concept and moka really lacking vocal ability. I feel like those girls wouldve really balanced the groups talent abilities big time. Right now there is a clear lack of balance in the line up especially with vocals, wonhee and minju carrying the weight while yunah and iroha can clearly improve, moka needs to go back to the basement or else it will be sakura pt2.
i do think jiwoo would fit perfectly in a guardian angel or classy fashion girl concept but i also do see her as a soloist too, she does have that authentic quality that would make her stand out. Jeemin clearly will debut in iland2s group,

    • @hbrant
      @hbrant 3 месяца назад

It was between Jeongeun and Yunah. Himena or Moka. Himena was ranked 10. Last place of top 10 finalists.
I agree with Moka, she lacks technique because she is not an allrounder in her vocals. She only fits high range songs. But they picked her because Bang PD is not looking at talent out from the gate he wants every artist to develop their own style overtime. Star quality potential. It worked for BTS though.
Yunah maybe too slayful in ru next but Bang PD and the producers had a Sailor Moon inspired magical girl concept in mind they have planned since 2021. Remember Sailor Jupiter was tall and a slayful tomboy.
Himena lacked vocal ability during episode 9 when she was struggled to hit high notes in Aim High during her practice. Maybe she was better with low range songs but I don't think this debut is a receipt of their future identity. They have yet to announce details for their webtoon.
If the webtoon was planned in 2021 that means it has been delayed because Youngseo left early this year and they had to edit parts where 6th member is not part of this lore. Belift are going to use the lore in Illit's discography, aesthetic, etc like Enhypen.

@@moonlightpaw5868 It just hit me now why Illit didn't debut with their theme linked to upcoming webtoon unlike TXT and Enhypen who did debuted with their theme because they had full line-up from the start. Illit lost Youngseo in the process. This EP must have been changed with 5 members only. For that reason Illit only got 4 tracks for the EP which should have been 6 tracks if the first track was a intro track. Enhypen and TXT got 6 tracks including a intro track for their debut.

i dont think jiwoo ranking 9th was what held her back, as moka, who is a much more underdeveloped vocalist, ranked 8th and was a PD pick over the girls who made it into the top 6 (jeemin and jeongeun). when you consider this, alongside the fact that jiwoo was actually the 4th highest in votes (after youngseo, jeemin and minju) when they were allowing international votes, she would've been top 6 if they counted our votes as well. in the interim vote that was released, wonhee jumped from 9th to 1st. clearly a big discrepancy between domestic and international numbers.
jiwoo and chanelle were the two contestants who had a much stronger international fan base than domestic. plus, she was voted best trainee also during the show. its not that she wasn't popular. or that she wasn't skilled. the truth is she was born in october 2001 and they wanted teenagers. she was 21. practically one foot in the grave, 2 years too late for an industry that prioritises aesthetic of youth over anything else. really shameful
a lineup of youngseo, jiwoo, chanelle, minju, yunah and jeongeun would've been untouchable by critics
