The Story still doesn't revolve around what happens to a Robo, if it had a consciousness like human beings.
The Story revolves around what happens if this conscious robo has been inserted a RED CHIP.
So, This is still a story about a Robo Malfunction caused by a bad guy , rather than Destruction caused by a Robo who fell in love.
You can see in climax, conscious chitti is pretty much okay with sacrificing his love.
