Very nice flight! Maidens make me very nervous too. This gives me the want to work on mine. Unfortunately though when my father-in-law had bought it at a yard sale it was already partially completed, and the fuselage and plans were missing.
Thanks for watching and for your comments. As a friend of mine said- if you can't purchase a B 29 build your own- now Flight line has the B 24 and Dynam has the B 26. When will someone produce the B 29?
I wish I could but the old yellow papers are gone, The airfoil was flat bottom and whatever looked good to me. It amazed me that it even flew. I could not purchase one so a friend suggested I build my own.
That is know as symmetrical and is very effect in acrobatic flight. A B 29 is not that kind of an airplane, pick a simple one that is easy to cut out and one that gives steady flight www.bing.com/images/search?q=types+of+rc+airplane+wing+foil&qpvt=types+of+RC+airplane+wing+foil&FORM=IGRE
Nice plane but the nacelles and engine cowls are not that of a B-29. Also no B-29 had anti-glare panels on the inside of the nacelles and cowls because the pilots set way forward of the wing. My father was with the 509th First Atomic Bombardment Squadron and I have studied these old airplanes all my life. Again, a very nice model and flies very well.
Thanks for your comment. I used the nacelles from the Freewing B 17 as my B 29 was about the same size. I was aware of the problem with the (anti glare) panels but as of 2 years I did not get around to painting them to match the grey. I was- with my limited ability- satisfied with making the airplane from a picture and then watching it fly. Thanks for watching and I would bet I have one in a million- scratch built B 29's No one has the B 29 for sale retail. But I did get the B 26 and B 24
I am like you, would like to find a medium sized kit for a B-29 but as far as I know, one does not exist. I will likely scratch build one before long. I can't resist making it like one of my Dad's squadron. The 9 airplanes of the 509 were very different, they were actually B-50's without the cowl change. Instead of R 3350 engines they had R 4360 engines equipped with reversible pitch propellers. They had almost no armor and all the armament was removed except the 2 50 caliber machine guns in the tail. Also larger fuel tanks. They were said to be able to fly almost 100 Knots faster than a standard B-29 and much further.
Good luck with building your own. I suspect it will take 40+ hours and a lot of research and design. I would not sell mine for 1000.00 Oh and look at this on the B 50 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_B-50_Superfortress Another site to look at on the stolen B 29's by Russia www.b-29s-over-korea.com/shortstories/russianclone.htm
Karl Hutson Actually, Guillows made a b-29. However, they are no longer in production. But if you keep your eye out, you may find one on eBay or something similar.
What you see on the video s what I have. I took an image of a B 29 from the internet it happened to be 6 inch wing span, so I multiplied it by 12, It has a 6 foot wingspan and all other dimensions are close to the 12x1, The nacelles, motors and esc's are from the Freewing B 17. All my work is done by quesstamation. The weight is very close to the 78 oz of the B 17. Flat bottom wing, light balsa, light ply, Cherrywood for spars. Landing gear from music wire and tandem wheels from a well know landing gear company- I can not think of the name. To sum it up -I used my experience from years of kit building and I was lucky that it flew. Thanks for watching and I wish I could help but as I said -what you see is what I had to start with.
I took a picture off the internet. The picture showed a wingspan of 6 inches, so I used math and made the wingspan 6 feet. So one inch for each foot of length, like the fuse, wings, stab and elevator. I placed the motors in proportion to the wing and body width, It is as close as I could approximate.

From your model-building experience I don't understand why you built this half-baked, sort of looks like a B-29. When building from scratch work from blueprints, don't build from memory. The nose isn't shaped like a ball, but more of a bullet that tapers a lot more at the tip. The nacelles look like they're from a B-17. B-29 nacelles look like a P-47 Thunderbolt's at the front, there are no straight lines, they taper like reverse teardrops and continue to the back of the wing. The wing is long and slim like a glider, yours is like a P-51 Mustang. It tapers on the front to the slender tips and the rear is almost straight and perpendicular to the fuselage. Your vertical stabilizer looks like something from the 1930s and not even close. Like the wing, the front of the horizontal stabilizer tapers and the rear line is almost perpendicular. The vertical and horizontal stabilizers are curved in the front become thicker in the center and taper to a thin point at the back similar to the wing but with a symmetrical foil. Please enlarge these to scale. When I built a B-17 from scratch I bought the Monogram plastic model, scanned the top and side illustrations, enlarged them, printed them to make templates to work right from and cut the tail and wing shapes exact.
