Joy, I really enjoyed this video, and learned a lot, even though I've been trying to teach Plutarch for years! I ended up here because I sat at your table at the CMEC retreat this summer, by the way. I really appreciated the reference to Norms and Nobility, and our aims in education. I have not read the book, but am now inspired to read it.Thank you for the video!
I remember you! I was a pleasure to meet you at the retreat! I'm glad my video was helpful! That book is one of those that will change your life forever! Let me know if you read it! I'd love to chat about those amazing ideas!
I didn't know where to start with my then 10 year old; I opened it up to the first name I recognized, Julius Caesar. He understood it and fell in love with Plutarch. He understood it better than me because he was invested in reading about someone that he had studied in history books previously. He devoured Plutarch over the years; he is now a senior in high school. Boy I'm going to miss homeschool.
Thank you for this explanation!! As a brand new homeschool/Charlotte Mason mom, this is so helpful. What age did you start teaching this to your children?
Thank you! I’ve been homeschooling 3 years and digging deeper in Charlotte Mason. Lately I’m like who the heck is Plutarch and how many lives did he have? 😂
It also takes me a minute to get through hard language. I love your honesty!
😊 thank you!
This is such a helpful intro to Plutarch. I'm getting ready for year 4 right now so this was a big help!
Oh! That's so exciting!
Thank you for sharing these resources! I have a lot more confidence in my approach to teaching this.
Wow one of the best lessons on education. Character is the missing ingredient. I like that.

You’re welcome!
Joy, good friend of your husband Kevin and fellow home schooler. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I'll share your message with Kevin.

What an awesome story! It’s a great plan to just start with what you know!!! Thank you for sharing!
I love all things Charlotte Mason but I've really struggled to get on board with Plutarch. Thanks for your practical tips!
I hope you are able to “meet” him and enjoy at least one of his “lives.” They really are fascinating!

Also - what was the book you read at the end of the video about modern education?
Norms and Nobility by David Hicks was the (amazing) book I read!
I started reading these when my oldest was in fourth grade. It read it as a family so the younger kids got it too- but I didn’t push it.
@@joycherrickthank you so much!! I’ll be adding that to my to-read list 🥰
