    I came into a GH1 not long ago and am having fun with it.
    Like you said, I'm also noticing that the color saturation isn't quite right in lower light. And the sensor is a bit slow. On the plus side, I have no complaints of the other aspects of the picture quality and the camera behavior/layout or its feel (well, the control buttons are a bit small for my hands). Even the response speed of the controls/menus isn't terrible by modern standards.
    It's my first foray into MFT. I really like the concept and range of affordable lenses for the format. This GH1 has convinced me to look into a more recent Panasonic MFT body.
    EDIT: Also, just found your channel due to this camera and am enjoying your content. Subscribed!

      Thank you so much Dávid..! You may see in my earlier videos that I switched to MFT to save on weight and bulk. For me, the system is perfect. I never owned a Lumix camera before buying the GH1 and now a couple of GF-1's. I was really impressed with the build quality and so now they sit alongside my Olympus kit. I hope you enjoy the channel 👍

    Congrats on the 500. Nice review with good n bad parts of a camera that even 14 years later deserved some praise. My 1st digital camera was a little lumix 4mega pixel job and I'll tell you now it was a beauty and took great pics. Panasonic have a reputation for putting a lot of bang for the buck into their cameras and anyone that pics up any panny camera should not be disappointed. I had a G9 for a couple of years and in hindsight I regret part ex'ing it. If cash was no object I would be picking another up 2mrw along with a PL12-60 lens - brill combination for a days shooting landscapes for me. atb Al

      Thanks so much Alan. Indeed discovering Panasonic has been a revelation to me, great cameras and much better than Sony (Oops, did I say that out loud?) 😂

    a great video David. I read many reviews on the GH1 but none as unbiased as yours. I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS that is way too heavy to carry around. I have a Canon S95 that is great and recently I bought a used GF3 that I love. I like the format and bought two more lenses for it. However it has the same problem, but to a lesser extend, the LCD is hard if not impossible to see on a sunny day. Based on your video I did order a GH1 for its more convenient knobs and buttons and the view finder, which I missed from my EOS.
    Thank you for taking the time making this very useful video.
    I am looking forward for your next video.

      Thank you Yvon, I try to give my own opinions on any camera/lens that I use rather than re-iterate things said by others. I am pleased to see you have bought a GF3, these little cameras offer a great deal and I have been looking for one myself. I hope you enjoy more of the upcoming videos!

    what a little gem of a camera 🙂
    maybe a challenge to shoot but that only adds to its charm IMO. and that scene was a bit of a tricky one for it - not often you'd be shooting at those extremes with it I'd imagine.
    and massive congrats on the 500 subs. far better to have a small channel where viewers feel engaged and valued than some massive impersonal vehicle!

    What, no Liverpool history segment? I guess the 500 subscriber mark went to your head and you don’t have to do it anymore🤣. Good to see you as always Alan (and congratulations). Needless to say that this camera isn't the latest and greatest, but in the right hands it will produce very good results and in my opinion, a great option for the beginner photographer (especially for the price). Be well and stay safe.

      I switched to M43 from Canon FF and Fuji APS-C. Since my heart operation 6 years ago, the weight/bulk saving is very important and I still get results that I am more than happy with.

    I use the GH1 with the Leica 12-60mm lens, what a great combination. The pictures mirror my Leica X2, as far as IQ.

      Hello John and thanks for commenting! I think you proved a point there, good quality glass goes a long way to providing high IQ. I have been impressed with the build quality of all Panasonic bodies.

    Thanks for your video. I just purchase a GH1 myself and i just loaded a hacked firmware. One of the benefits of the firmware is the ability to use third party batteries. I also wanted to let you know that your camera originally already had a "hacked firmware" indicated by the Version number "0.0" . If it not hacked, it will have a firmware of 1.0 or higher. The personal-view FAQ page regarding the GH1 hack detailed this version info as a way to confirm if hacked was successfully loaded.

    • @photographyforenjoyment
      @photographyforenjoyment  Год назад

      Thanks for the two very useful tips there! Knowing that hacked firmware registers as "0.0" and that third party batteries can also be used, are a couple of really useful bits of information. Great stuff!

    Biggest problem with the GH1 in my experience is finding one where the rubber covering hasn't gone sticky. Sometimes needs a wash down with Isopropanol and a rubber treatment

      I use that stuff that is meant for cleaning your car's dashboard. My collection of old cameras (I only have old cameras) all look like brand new. And Alan, all the best, loved this contribution and congratulations on the well-deserved growth of the channel.

      Well Mike I guess that proves I dropped lucky with mine and that it will eventually get sticky! Yes I've used isopropyl alcohol on Nikons before now and it does work.

    Hi Alan, your camera should switch automatically between the screen and viewfinder, some people don't like that and turn it off to use the camera with the button only.
    To check look at the menu/set ..custom... then scroll to LVF/LCD auto, it may be set to off.
    Your camera definitely has the auto feature, If that doesn't fix it it must be the sensor next to the eye viewer.
    I hope this helps. You should find it on page 5 in the custom menu.
    Cheers.

      @photographyforenjoyment  2 года назад

      Hi Steve, yes mine will switch from LCD to EVF when you close the LCD panel, but not going the other way. I have it set to "on" in the menu. As you say it may be the eye-detect sensor or firmware update? Either way it's not a worry for me but thanks for mentioning it.

    can it be used for live streaming?

    • @photographyforenjoyment
      @photographyforenjoyment  Год назад

      Good question! With regard to it's video capability, it offers full HD at 24fps so from that point of view its certainly possible. I've never done any live streaming, so take this next bit as just my opinion, not fact; I guess lots will depend on your lighting set-up, and/or the lens you use, as well of course as your internet connection. As long as you have enough light and a decent connection speed I think it might well work.
