It's a dismal, boring, bleak and deeply depressing parody of the original Dark Side, like he took the album and removed anything that sounded good.
Agreed
I love that the song Speak to Me, Roger chose lyrics that speak to him..
I woke up early to listen to it. Overall I think it's disappointing: there's a 'War of the worlds' feel to it, due to far too much talking from Roger. Also, the mechanical drumbeat becomes annoying after a while.
Looking forward to my vinyl version turning up tomorrow! I thought his Lockdown Session album was masterful.
Couldn't agree more, gonna get better with every listen.
Absolute ego driven destruction of a monument in rock music. It is a monotonous, monotonal, monochromatic, maniacal testament to Roger waters monomania. Mono means one and that is all Waters believes was necessary to make DSOTM. His ego is comical and destructive.
The Final Cut is the only Waters solos album I ever listened to. I want to keep it that way.
I bought the album on violet vinyl from Amazon. Really looking forward to hearing and seeing it.
Does anyone have all of the colors available of the vinyl ? Including the black; I count 9 colors !
Can’t argue about taste. As a die hard fan of PF and recognising RW’s talent for lyrics, the voice over and continuous snare drum this interpretation of DSOTM is simply devastating.
My vinyl and CD copy will be here Sunday. Brilliant interpretation.
Very nice review! I've just finished listening to the whole album, and I loved it.
But I'll have to listen to it a few more times to fully understand and appreciate this work.
By the way, on the vinyl version of the album there's a song called "An Original Composition" at the end of the tracklist. Have you listened to it? because this song is only available on vinyl and not on cd or streaming.
If you had the chance to hear it, what did you think?
No I'm curious to know what it is. I'm sure I will find out when my LP arrives
My vinyl copy is waiting for me at home - and I just wanted to thank you for great review. I found it very refreshing to listen to the intelligent opinion that is not colored by all the controversies that surround this release.
From a music point of view (not a political / prose one) , if this came out in 1973 Pink Floyd would have died off and the world would be a FAR worse place for it - imagine no 'wish you were here' nor 'The Wall' . IMHO. Lucky for Roger that things were different and 45 million copies worldwide were sold (to 2021). I was fascinated and I have listened to this whole album, no urge to repeat, quite a different reaction to 1973 when I bought the 'other' groundbreaking music version. On listening my brain inserted the riffs and harmonies the other band members had etched indelibly in my mind, an odd experience. Maybe Roger can move on now with his huge talent (maybe take a happy pill)....... "Money" I'll probably play again......I did like the new drum sound, very similar to the end of Blackstar /Bowie. - anyone know what he says at 2:04 final track....'I'll tell you one thing', something something ?
Loved your review. Can't wait till tomorrow to hear it. Glad you enjoyed it
I'm looking forwards to my vinyl version arriving soon. Thanks for the review. (oh and excellent T Shirt!)
I've read many comments over the last few days, and my impression is that the younger crowd generally like the new album, while the older crowd do not like the new album.
I'm 76 and bought the original march of 1973. I do not like the new version. Maybe as a
E- book it would work.
Great review, I have heard so many negative reviews of this album. I love it. I think people are trying to compare it to the original but if they had never heard the original and looked at it as a work on its own maybe the reviews would be different. By the way, being from the midlands i love the ATV t shirt.
Great vinil..Roders Waters....is great..
I think it's brilliant. It's an album you have to listen to in loud speakers. The bass, farifsa and organ are the standouts musically. The organ solo in us and them is majestic. It's also good to hear Roger's bass in any color you'd like, he has not lost a step
Absolute crap.
The funny thing is that for a young kid this is a brilliant new album as it was for us, and it will stand the test of time also, just because even after 50 years no one is making music like this, and i may be reaching, but it's ultimate piss at the polly/gilmour incorporated.
Does anyone have all of the different vinyl colors ? Including the black; I count 9 different colors !!!
I think a lot of people have already made up their mind about the record without even having listened to it.
The comments from Waters didn’t help to rally up the people against this recording.
I will listen to it with an open mind.
You can listen tracks on YT and appreciate or not, I don't.
I totally agree with you .
Excellent review, fair and balanced , think its stunning album, really classy ,
Thank you very much
The real tragedy here is the fact Roger didn’t just record the album over wizard of Oz for real this time. Would have been the perfect opportunity…
Don’t mess with an OG.
Even if you’re after monetary profit, as the main driver.
(8:20) *"And I think that kinda helps to build the thing up."* ... That's asking an awful lot out of cymbals and drums.
I like everyone else, wish for one more o.g studio album that is all.
I heard the complete album before it was released. It is just great. Just great.
I almost vomited when I heard it. Where's the music???
Good job
Dont mess with the original masterpiece..i havent heard it and i dont intend to. Roger seems to be a bitter person. Props on the early Floyd albums. I will stick with the classic work.
Same here Totally unnecessary release, IMO. Money grab, nothing more, nothing less.
Love the t shirt.
Dsotm is far more than death, it's all about our lives, from birth, life, society, war, mental issues, religion, philosophy. That's why It has been a huge success, more than the wall narrower.
I don't appreciate new music, singing, nor new lyrics, but worse the universal human condition has been completely destroyed. A major piece of art talks to all human. New stuff here doesn't it weaken it. To me RG "had nothing more to say" in 73,and it was fine because there were nothing more to say.
When you look at YT young people reactions to dsotm original tracks, I'm happy to see that new generations reacts as I did 50 years ago when I was eleven. I don't doubt in few years and decades this album this album will disappear from memories.
And believe me it makes me sad. RW why didn't you create New stuff?
If no one ever heard of the OG DSTOM which was also a brainchild of the Roger Waters, this DSTOM Redux is every bit enjoyable.
There are so many versions & renditions available of every famous song by so many artists done in so many styles, Roger's (Redux) take on his own creation with his previous bandmates is as respectable today with a different flavor, is only time relevant. #Let_There_be_More_Light
Please get your ears checked or you may miss that lorry of reality rapidly bearing down on you. This album is drivel.
It's not for me, don't care about the fall out between the band. I own the LP, glad you like it though.
syd barret had left all these records would of exsisted im send my stuff back
The worst Pink Floyd related release in years. No bother.
Agreed
What about the 300 usd remaster
@@gwimbly519 what's that? If it’s only a remaster, it’s probably the same thing with a new sound, isn't it?
@@Zholobov1 and with a 300 usd price tag. Not that's insulting
@@gwimbly519 I'm not talking about money, mate.
Absolute ego driven destruction of a monument in rock music. It is a monotonous, monotonal, monochromatic, maniacal testament to Roger waters monomania. Mono means one and that is all Waters believes was necessary to make DSOTM. His ego is comical and destructive.
Sorry I don’t like it at all
It's awful 😮
Disaster!
Doesn't matter, it will be forgotten very quickly from fans. When to non fans do they know RG is a PF member. Future will tell.
