So it makes sense that even despite not winning any Tonys, Mean Girls is thriving because of the popularity of the movie along with Tony-nomination-worthy quality.

Noah W I’ve seen both, and I’m still gobsmacked that hadestown won. This show managed to draw the audience into this crazy, bombastic story and keep us pulled in based on the effects. It is miles more effective than hadestown, and you can see how much time went into it. But ‘typical’ shows like hadestown are pretty much guaranteed a win based on how the tonys work. Hadestown had good scenic design, but ultimately they played it safe, whereas beetle juice took a whole different direction.

It's big and over the top, but that doesn't always mean it's the best. Look at 91. Miss Saigon had by far the most technically complex set ever at the time (they landed a freaking helicopter on stage!), but they lost to the more subtle and beautiful Secret Garden.
I've heard nothing but great things about the design of Hadestown. The set looks deceptively simple but apparently they do some jaw dropping things with it.

voxelina first of all, what? The only reason Hadestown won was due to the fact that it was more “traditional” with Beetlejuice, the set is WAY more dynamic and crazy. With the crazy lighting designs making the set feel colorful and crazy. Hadestown however, I like the lights on especially the ones on wait for me but, Beetlejuice deserved the Tony as it brought something new to broadway. When Beetlejuice takes over the home it makes it feel like a spiral illusion just came over and it really is something new. What do you mean by “Has already been seen” as from all the shows I’ve seen, Beetlejuice is much more different. Hadestown set feels similar to that of Hamilton’s. I know it takes place in like the 30’s or whatever but the set is very dark and grim and Beetlejuice uses almost every trick in the book to make the set and effects feel unique. With giant puppets, traditional effects like fire coming from a hand, lighting done in a new way changing the color of the entire set, one time it’s blue, the next, it’s yellow and so on. Also, the same thing goes with the floor as it is constantly changing through the portion in which the house is overrun by Beetlejuice. All in all, Hadestown in general is more traditional in terms of the set, similar to Hamilton. The set is, good, but Beetlejuice deserved the Tony. To bad broadway hates comedy’s.

I saw the show, second row from the side, and I could see that a seat gets attached discreetly by one of the clones when they are taking Beetlejuice to the Netherworld for her to sit on (that's why she's able to jump off so quickly), and then when she comes back down, Adam takes it off and puts it into the bucket with his mop.

Lydia levitates because a bike seat pops out of the stair column very quickly and slowly rises her up and then brings her down

I don't know how credible it is, but I read somewhere that the levitation is done using what's basically a bicycle seat attached to a rig on the wall, that lifts and moves the actors. during the choreography immediately after the levitation it's removed and taken offstage, the whole time being hidden by the actor's bodies.

For anyone that wants to know how she flies. There is another option for this without wires. It is a machine that is incredible! It is a fish hook type machine with a harness that is normally in darkness or behind a wall with a slit. This effect is also done in Les mid 25th version
