- Take a trip to the Netherworld with Broadway's Beetlejuice, which re-opened April 8 at the Marquis Theatre. Reprising the role of the titular poltergeist, Tony nominee Alex Brightman returns to the production opposite Elizabeth Teeter (The Crucible, The Audience), the show's new Lydia Deetz.
Returning with Brightman to the company are Tony award nominee Kerry Butler, David Josefsberg, Obie award winner Adam Dannheisser, Lortel winner Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Kelvin Moon Loh, Danny Rutigliano, and Dana Steingold.
Based on Tim Burton’s cult favorite film, Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a demon with a thing for stripes. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter unleashes a (nether)world of pandemonium, and the biggest sandworm Broadway has ever seen.
New to the show along with Teeter are Michelle Aravena (A Bronx Tale, Rocky) as Miss Argentina and Zonya Love (The Color Purple) as Maxine Dean/Juno. The cast also includes Kate Bailey, Will Blum, Ryan Breslin, Natalie Charle Ellis, Brooke Engen, Eric Anthony Johnson, Andrew Kober, Elliott Mattox, Mateo Melendez, Ramone Owens, Commodore C. Primous III, Nevada Riley, and Graham Stevens.
Alex Timbers directs the musical, which features an original score by Tony nominee Eddie Perfect, and a book by Tony nominees Scott Brown and Anthony King. Music supervision, orchestrations and incidental music are by Kris Kukul, and choreography is by Connor Gallagher.
The creative team also includes scenic designer David Korins, costume designer William Ivey Long, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, sound designer Peter Hylenski, projection designer Peter Nigrini, puppet designer Michael Curry, special effects designer Jeremy Chernick, hair and wig designer Charles G. LaPointe, make-up designer Joe Dulude II, and physical movement coordinator Lorenzo Pisoni.
Illusions are by Michael Weber while dance arrangements are by David Dabbon. Also serving are Rachel Vauder as production stage manager, Catie Davis as associate director, Nancy Renee Braun as associate choreographer, and Jenny Gersten as line producer. Casting is by Telsey + Company and Rachel Hoffman and music producing is by Matt Stine.

Marquis welcomed the show to its new home by soliciting artwork from fans last month to be featured on a gallery wall outside of the theatre between 46th and 47th Streets. Beetlejuice originally opened April 25, 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre, going on to be nominated for eight Tony awards in its initial engagement.

Sorry this is a few months later haha, I believe it was professionally recorded it’s just sitting in a vault somewhere. Hopefully one day we’ll get to see it, who knows with Beetlejuice 2 coming out later this year that day might be sooner rather than later.

He actually said in an interview that he is literally built differently. He has a unique mutation in his throat which allows him to make that voice and feel literally zero reprocussions. The interview is this:

He had said something in a panel back at NYC Comic Con in 2022 about how he doesn't blow out his voice doing the gruff intonations, and he put it down to that he "had a great vocal coach." But, of course, he then came out with the real reason was because of his throat.

I got a chance to see this amazing production when I went to NYC to see Phantom. I really loved the energy from the whole cast and theater. I really really LOVED Alex Brightman as Beetlejuice though since I've heard his voice work on Helluva Boss. I'm going to go see it again this summer when it's going on tour where I live and can't wait :3
Ironically, I also knew of Alex Brightman more as Fizzarolli before I even knew him as Beetlejuice.

I also went to see Phantom and learned that Beetlejuice was a Musical! I really wanted to see it but I was only there for a weekend to see Phantom and I was extra bummed to learn that Alex (Fizzarolli) was playing Beetlejuice! Though, after watching this and some other video's, it has a lot of flashing lights (I'm epileptic) so that bummed me too..

Ok. Alex Brightman playing the live-action musical version, and the Teen Titans GO animated version of Beetlejuice is just amazing. I love the commentary about the source material. The performance here is just perfect. Timing is spot on, the ability to work around the (well-deserved) applause, the voice is a perfect blend of Michael Keaton's dark and comedic with a musical and light flair, the little additions like the farewell to the terrified woman, or the later fake cartwheel for Say My Name, everything is Perfect. It's no wonder that he was picked to be in Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel as well. Even with just a voice, he's so expressive. Look At This from season 2 of HB works perfectly with his improv, F**k You from the following episode has so much emotion and excitement. Then there's HH and Hell Is Forever. The guitar solo is an homage to his portrayal of Dewey Finn from School of Rock, another great performance by Brightman. The vocalisations match Jack Black. This man is seriously talented!

There was one other performance I liked even more. I got to see Beetlejuice at Shea's Buffalo Theatre, & the man playing Beetlejuice was so extraordinary. He played every line, scripted or improvised, perfectly. Entire cast was flawless. I'll never forget that💜💚🖤
My favorite Tim Burton movie, and the play was incredible. Would like to see it again.
