Awesome compilation! I'm having trouble finding footage on RUclips (bandwidth is limited for me at the moment), but I remember the older iteration of the Beetlejuice Graveyard Review show at Universal also doing the Banana Boat song at the end when I saw it live in the 90s. It wasn't a dinner scene, but Beetlejuice danced while flanked by a couple of prop skeletons on a horizontal pole if I remember right.
I have a photo of that at my old house!!! Our first trip was when I was 10 in 2002 and I really liked the show so my parents decided to snap a photo of BJ doing exactly that! :)
Wow i just looked that up now, what a great find! I was looking for something like this when researching for this video but somehow never came across it. I've added some links here for anyone who is interested.

In Australia we have Warner Bros Movie World theme park, and all I could find was Beetlejuice walking around the park for photo opportunities, but nothing like this.
I love how in the musical Adam is taking the possession seriously while Barbara is just vibing
an icon, honestly
@@padisleiero agreed
I like how they make more of an effort to make it scary in the movie what they made the shrimp hand at the very end and thats it if posession was just a song and dance number i feel less people would be afraid of it
@@gaymerjerry i mean it’s also a musical so the whole point is that it’s a song and dance
Barbara is one of my spirit animals, for real 😅
I just realized that Leslie legit had to play fight with a fake pig 8 times a week and actually got paid for it. Idk why but that fact just makes me smile 🤣
And Dana got paid for controlling the pig 😂
That's the dream! 😂
She has PTSD from that!

Fun Fact, Alex Brightman voiced Beetlejuice in the teen titans episode.
I think alot of people knew
i was today years old
Omg
I know.
I could tell
My favourite part of the Day-O scene is the fact that Adam and Barbra were sure that this was the best way to scare some people out of the house. The banana boat song.
They are introverts, group dances scare them
Spontaneously forced to sing dayo against your will would scare most people. Babs and Adam had just never met greedy Manhattanite posers before.
i thought it was because the lyrics say "Daylight come and me wan' go home"
It really fits in with them. So so silly
Because they're doing it against their will and also the shrimp turned into grabby hands
"I stopped using my magic 20 seconds ago." Heh, they vibing.
Its called enjoying the moment you iguana.
@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar Yeah, vibing is just a new slang term for enjoying the moment.
😊lmaooooo vibes all around
Day-o scene: exists
Literally everyone who's seen it: *Oh yeah, possessed shrimp time*
Alex talking with his normal voice in Beetlejuice costume it's so weird, but he's so cute
It was weird for me too-
I love him
I've been in the beetlejuice fandom for a long time and for me the musical is the epitome of all the iterations cartoon and even the movie. The musical made me so emotional, I waited years for more Beetlejuice content 😭
Musical? First I heard of one.
@@MaximumCarne oh it's so good
@@love2manythings it looks like a fun one. I would check it out.
I LOVE the musical so damn much. I listen to that soundtrack at least once a day
@@MaximumCarne the other person saying it’s good is right, it’s amazing. I actually saw it in December 2019. Best decision ever
Now we know where “brrrkaka” comes from in the musical
I already knew 😎
I already knew and got super excited when I heard it in the musical. The cartoon is my favorite!!! 🥰
Also it's definitely a Caribbean thing - wasn't expecting it the first time i listened to the soundtrack.
“And I know that now.”
The part of the scene where the shrimp reach up and grab their faces and shove them back was shot backwards with the hands on the faces then going into the bowls and the film was reversed. The reason, the actors kept getting poked in the eye by the shrimp, because the performers wearing the shrimp gloves couldn't see the actor's faces
THAT'S why it looked so surreal! I could never put my finger on it [no pun intended] until reading that! Wow, that's cool...a way to make the scene work without harming the actors actually made it more aesthetic in the context of the film. Fucking bravo, cast and crew! 😃
I can definitely confirm that! It's one of my favorite stories from my step dad. He worked as a VFX artist in Hollywood for quite some time and worked on Beetlejuice. He has a few parts of the film he worked on, but he specifically told me that he was one of the puppeteers in this scene for the shrimp, and was horrified when he accidentally smacked Carherine O'Hara in the face during one take.
@@disasterdom Oml I envy you so hard, that's cool as hell! Definitely has bragging rights for decades with that 🤣💚
@@ThatDudeWithBoobs Yeah! He does some other puppeteering work in the movie, but that's probably the most noteworthy one. He has a couple of pictures he's in from some behind the scenes book somewhere. He also appears in the movie briefly, but you'd never really know unless someone told you. In the scene where the Deetz' are touring the house, as they are heading up towards the attic, Alec Baldwin's character runs up past them while headless, and that's actually my stepdad as Baldwin's stunt double, I guess you could call it. Can't really prove it's my stepdad other than taking my word for it, but since Baldwin appears headless in the scene, nobody can prove it was actually Baldwin either! 😅
ok but like can we talk about how ICONIC the original one was.
The last one I found really cute, touched my heart a little. Now the teen Titan one was kinda weird tho, not a big fan of the show but Beetlejuice made that one episode slightly better
I generally like Teen Titans Go, but the poor lip syncing in that clip really annoys me, like yeah it's not perfect in the original, but it's clear that their mouths are supposed to be mouthing in sync with the lyrics, here they literally had the power to make it perfect and chose not to.
Agreed
@@madestmadhatter i think the clip is like delayed from the audio, u should look up another version it’s not that bad
I get it but appreciate how TTG sometimes tries to teach pop culture. Like cyborg rambling about Webster it John Henry
@@samrobacker346I’ll give em’ that, hands down
Honestly "that's how much you know, I've stopped using my magic twenty seconds ago" felt like such a rad line?
I think what makes the original moment so iconic is how completely out of left field it was. When they [the ghosts] said they wanted to do a possession, I'm sure most people in the theaters were expecting something akin to The Exorcist with a more comedic tone. The moment "DAY-O!" came out of O'Hara's mouth, it probably sent everyone through a loop. Subverted expectations tend to stick with a person more than tradition, and now you can't even mention Beetlejuice in any context without that scene popping in your head.
Also, THERE IS NO WAY THAT MAN IS 95 IN THIS VIDEO SOMEONE CARD HIM
I could just see this when they first practiced it… everyone singing it normally but that one fan of the animated series in the back like “BRRRRRAKA!”. 🤣 And the director is just like “Yeah, let’s keep yet another reference to the cartoon in there.”.
I came to this fandom by way of the cartoon in 1996 so that musical having so much of the cartoon’s spirit in it gives me life just as long as I don’t run into the toxic fans… I shudder at the thought of them…
My favorite part of the original is right before she starts singing she looks around like she knows what she's about to do almost like the character is about to play a prank on everyone
This was really cool, to watch the cultural historical evolution of this song, and how any time Beetlejuice shows up as a remake or character of any sort, Day-o also makes an appearance. I had no idea there were so many Beetlejuice remakes.
That last moment with the song writter being brought in for some praise was so touching, he deserves everything, I hope he has had a great long and happy life, thank you for the beautiful memories and such a fun song!
The musical feels more natural and feel like it has the amount of craziness The movie and musical embodies
The end when they brought that amazing man out to honor him my heart swelled with love; i heard the song before I saw the movie and listened to his music before hand and loved that it was in the movie when I watched it as a kid cant beat the classic ❤
Fun fact, I was at the show where Lord Burgess made a guest appearance!
WAIT THATS SO COOL HOW WAS THE SHOW LIVE? ive always wanted to see it and was going to but cancelled because something came up
@@ava-wp1dr It was really good, the set design and lighting especially were really cool! Also other fun fact since I’m here, the second time I saw it I sat a few rows away from Thomas Sanders!
@@ccbot5000 Thats amazing omg! and i have seen clips of it and the lighting and set design is AWSOME they were robbed at the tonys lmfao
@@ava-wp1dr absolutely, and I still hold a minor grudge against the music man😌
@@ccbot5000 *me whenever i see the hugh jackman chocolates interview meme*
As a theatre kid I am partial to the musical version where there is a build up to the actual song, and it is so cool that you can actually see Adam and Barbra possessing the group
If anyone can point me in the direction of the filmed version of the musical (assuming it’s the whole show and not just promo material)? It’s one of the best quality ones I’ve ever seen.
I think they edited a bunch of clips together
They never got the chance to record it fully. The ones you saw are indeed just promos
if you look up "slime tutorial beetlejuice" someone recorded it :)
they gave you a way to contact above with an email :). Try that. It's a rebuild of it using lots of recordings
@@saelzs7697 You do know every single show that goes on Broadway does in fact get a proshhot, right? They all get stored in the New York Public Library, to keep records. You can watch them if you have the right permissions, usually if you're doing some kind of research on the show itself, directors, sets, ect, or if you're putting on a big scale production of the show (like in new york, or touring, that level). They may not have filmed a pro shot made with the plans to release, like say Newsies, Shrek, Rent, Spongebob, Bandstand, ect, but it almost assuredly does exist. It also likely won't ever be publicly released though.
Also there are definetly multiple high quality boots out there of the full show. I personally have like 3, and that's not even the one that had all the NFT issues that nearly ruined everything for everyone.
I LOVE THE COSTUME SOPHIA (LYDIA) WEARS DURING THE DAYO SCEENEEE AHH!! THE YELLOW ONE! THE BLACK ONE IS ALSO FABULOUS!
Was anyone going to tell me that beetlejuice made a appearance in TTG or
That was literally one of my fav episodes because of him
I love how in the dinner party scene from the animated series, one guest is wearing a purple version of the original outfit that Deliah wore in the movie.
I didn't now there was a lego Bettlejuice game xD
there isn't, that's from the beetlejuice world in lego dimensions
Lego Dimensions is just a collection of 30 miniature lego games lol
Same!!🙋♀️
I love how in the movie the actors faces fluctuate between scene accurate fear and confusion to getting into the music. You could tell the actors were having fun with it.
Did anyone notice they included the bridge where the Maitlands die in the original movie in the cartoon? I always thought that was a nice little Easter egg
If you look at the set in musical (before the Day-o scene) they've filled the house with heaps of little easter eggs like that. Photos of the bridge ect.
It's so sweet that they brought the creator onto the stage.
8:40 i am in love with this
Same
Who else wants to see a Beetlejuice-Scooby Doo crossover? Remember, they're both Warner Bros characters.
it's so cute and heartwarming how in the 1989 version the people end up enjoying the dance and beetlejuice dances with them
Watching this made me miss Beetlejuice on Broadway.
Watching this just makes me miss Beetlejuice entirely. I’d do almost anything to go back to the days when he ruled the networks as a cartoon… If I could have the movie, the cartoon, the musical and the Graveyard Revue existing all at the same time, I would.
The Teen Titans one really embraced the shaking your but part of that number… for some reason
TTG has had several musical numbers involving ass shaking.
Best is the original, the pig puppet was an interesting addition, but it also makes things a little uncomfortable at times, the final clip felt a little... Forced, but I did like seeing that the actress who plays Lydia kept her eye on the original song writer the whole time, like she wanted to make sure he was okay with what was happening and they weren't offending him.
I saw one of the premiers/first shows in DC where they were still tweaking things. And the pig had a corkscrew penis and was humping her mouth, but evidently they took that out.
In the 2018 preview run of the musical in DC, the Pig puppet apparently had an erect...sausage (for lack of a better term) attached to it when it was attacking Delia. Could imagine that being even more uncomfortable, glad they cut that before it made it to Broadway.
I didn't think that Beetlejuice would work as musical, but I love it so much from the day-o number.
I really love the way they updated the song for Teen Titans Go. It's clearly a new version, but it's still the same song.
Also just love seeing that there's still genuine love for mid-20th century pop culture 60 years on.
Lo que me gusta de los Jovenes Titanes es que hay varias referencias a la musica, series, videojuegos, moda y la vida en los 80s sobre todo, que es la decada en que se estreno Beeteljuice tanto la pelicula y la serie animada.
6:49 Total nostaglia trip!!!
I remember this episode, it's great.
Haven't seen it in years, but instantly knew and sang along with the lyrics.
Thank you for posting this.
I thought I imagined the Beetlejuice cartoon-meshed it with “Ah! Real Monsters” for years-until I saw this and remembered the Day-O song and Lydia bursting through a door and running down a stone staircase.
Lidia is the beast at singing this!
Agreed
*lydia
Disagree. She's overdoing it in an obnoxious modern pop music way...
@@masterofallgoons uhhh ok
@@masterofallgoons it's just the way Sophia sings, I find it really cute and she is a sweetheart

Thank you for making this :D
No problem 😊 Glad you liked it
The terrified of the family as they "sung"amd dance in the original cant be beat
Ughhh I can’t wait till Teen Titian’s Go crawls in a hole, dies, and is forgotten completely by the collective world memory.
IKR! Also people in the comments calling it “Teen Titans” soils the original’s good name. Sad to know that kids one day will look back and know this monstrosity as “Teen Titans”.
(Also why was there a need for a Beetlejuice crossover? Genuinely curious but also it seems campy and like a cash-grab…)
@@emilyl5078 YES!!! The Early 2000’s Titans don’t deserve this disrespect, at this point the creators are just seeing how much crap on and destroy what was once a heartfelt and epically written show!

WOW YOURE RIGHT THATS WHERE I RECOGNISED THAT VOICE!! IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE SOPHIE WOAH!!
Wait where at?
You mean the lady presenting this video? I've just finished watching HMC and I don't think they sound that similar
I've only ever watched HMC with subtitles, I'll have to go back and watch the dub. I think I'm just trying to make sure my aussie ascent isn't too broad, I know we have a tendency to sound like we're slurring our words to foreigners and I'm trying to avoid that.
I didn't expect the Beetlejuice to have a musical, a very very good one where they brought in the legend himself for a moment XD Now I have to find a way to watch the musical cause I love the original XD
I remember seeing the cartoon version and being so excited to see a moment from the movie in the cartoon.

I love the m ALL!!! But you can NEVER top the OG '88 version!!
My favourite renditions are the ones where it's either beetlejuice (Betelgeuse) or Barbara and Adam are doing the possession because the those renditions are adorable
The reason why I put Betelgeuse in brackets is because beetlejuice was named after the star which is Betelgeuse but it's easier to say beetlejuice and act out in a game of charades
In the original movie his name is actually Betelgeuse, the phonetic pronunciation is just beetlejuice. The movie is named after the charadesgame
Fun fact about the names that the song goes by you can look up under the names day-o or the banana boat song or calypso and it will show up on the search when you try to find it
the actual comparisons start at 3:23
THANK YOU
7:13 they forgot to color her hair lol
The musical version will always be a favorite even if I grew up watching Beetlejuice in the 2000s
They really wheeled the guy onstage and sang his song while trying to get the shy theater nerds in the audience to join in. We always hypothesize what you're supposed to do when people sing happy birthday to you, but physically being unable to walk away as a gaggle of outcasts sing your song around you is a whole new level. I'm not hating, just think it's funny
My favorite version is the one from the original movie. And the second the one from the Broadway musical.
To this day I STILL get that "be nice to beetles" song stuck in my head 😂
I love Delia saying “I’m a vegan!”
13:45
Lydia in the backround. I can see your death
I saw this in previews on Broadway and it was fabulous! Can’t believe it closed so quickly! :(
I just noticed that the Dad looks under the table when the dancing in both the cartoon and the movie. Why?
For strings or a radio or something to be causing it.
I despise Teen Titans Go, but that dance sequence was hilarious
i definitely agree, for something as...interesting as TTG that little sequence was surprisingly done in good taste
The last scene just warms my heart and I bet it forms everybody else’s
So much theater kid energy
I didn't know. I just learned about "Beetlejuice, The Musical." Mr. Lord Burgess wrote the song.
Can we all agree the musical was the best version like 😌
I like the musical a lot but I’d have to disagree… Nothing for me will ever be better than the animated series.
Fun fact: the voice actress that played Lydia in the 89 cartoon later played Loonette the Clown on the Big Comfy Couch.
This my favorite movie. l also love the banana boat song.Cause my music school teacher used to sing that song in my third grade class.
Tbh my fav is musical version but they're almost equally perfect imo
that one clip where leslie kritzer absolutely decks that pig in the face is so funny LMAO
loved the video! keep up the good work :)
Wait, Beetlejuice actually appeared on TTG? I thought it was a fan animated clip.
Yup. It happened.
The musical makes a better use of awkward pauses go let the awkwardness sink I'm that it was sudden before eventually switching targets them spreading like a virus.
If you do Beetlejuice. You need Day-o.
This song just got turned into a meme
It also was in a episode of the Muppet Show
I'm always gonna love the movie version but for me I enjoyed when Harry Belafonte was a guest star on the Muppet Show and they did the song on there. Pretty funny scene if you ever get a chance to see it.
9:10 This is one of my favorite moments in the show.
Adam Dannheisser (Lydia's Dad) is the only main cast member who never gets a song or duet to sing. Day-O and Creepy Old Guy are the closest he gets, but he's still basically just part of the ensemble in both. This is the one big moment he gets to show off his chops, and he NAILS IT.
The musical version is somehow more chaotic than the original source material
movie and musical versions are cool
can't wait to hear this song again in the upcoming and long waited sequel since this will be played at Charles Deetz's funeral!
on this day I just noticed Lydia is observing everyone else being possessed (in the movie) as far as i can remember then she is only possessed once at the end (Jump in the line).
My family and i would dance to this back in the early nineties.
I always feel like the musical missed the point of this bit in the movie. In musical theater, singing is used when the emotion of the scene is too great to express with dialogue. By having the actors sing, they are expressing their emotions, but the characters have no connection to the song. In the original, the characters on screen aren't expressing their emotions; they are possessed and have lost complete control to the point that the voice coming out of them isn't theirs. This is the one time in all of Broadway history that lip syncing would have been the right call.
Agreed, but I will note that the Maitlands are also possessing everyone in the musical too. You can see them controlling everyone on the staircase. They come down half way through the first verse.
The last one was so wholesome
I do this whenever I want to make my family laugh 😂 I just put the song and start dancing and lip synching along 😂
Why is no one talking about how cute Sophia was at the last one with the man who wrote the song
I love how the dark haired girl in the movie is just vibing.
catherine o’hara’s performance with banana boat will always be the best
And it’s not even close. Even with thirty years to figure out how to improve upon it, I don’t think it is possible. I am a Canadian and an SCTV fan so I’m heavily biased, but the strong physicality and facial contortion Catherine brought to it from her so elegant physique and manner is just incredible. She blew everyone off the screen, and the odd thing is that was her standard performance quality. Why she never got more starring roles in her peak will always be a mystery to me.
Out of all the versions of the song, the musical version is my favorite! Though, I’ll always hold the original a special place in my heart 🥰
I just watched Beetlejuice in its entirety last night for the first time. I didn't know the Day-O scene existed. My mind was completely blown. I felt better watching that scene than I've felt in years. Cinematic dopamine at its absolute finest. What other scenes in ANY movie make you feel that good?
I swear, mister Beetlejuice, thank you for helping me get through depression.
You missed Graveyard Revue’s rendition of The Banana Boat Song. But I’m not even sure that could be included anyway since that version didn’t have a dinner scene at all.
My favorite part preforming the musical was pretending to control them during the song
Catherine looks like she's having fun...
Just my 3¢..... But the original is always by far the best!! Because any iteration or version done after that is based on the original.
I also thought it was a but weird that the media performances didn't include the Beetlejuice character in them? Like I can understand he is not part of the actual scene. But odd to still not just stick him into those performances...
Those media performances lead right into a beetlejuice solo where he sings "The Whole Being Dead Thing" I always thought it was weird that the media versions would only barely include the rest of the stars
@@ZuriElysium27 Ahhh gotcha.... Was not aware of that .. thanx for shedding some light on that for me !!
