Several years ago, I saw an automated key copying machine at Home Depot. You put the key to be copied in one slot, the machine analyzed the key and told you the number for the blank, you selected the blank off the rack, put it in another slot, and the machine would cut it. The machine was much simpler to use and basically idiot proof. Definitely reduced bad cuts in a hardware store where you don't have licensed locksmiths.
