    As a decades-long audio recording engineer (and musician), it's great to see Resolve - and particularly the Fairlight page - slowly but surely creeping up on standalone DAWs in terms of capabilities. Using Logic Pro, Wavelab, or Audition (that's Adobe - yuk) has its challenges in terms of bringing the audio back into Resolve and lining everything up. For those who can't afford a separate DAW, Audacity can do a remarkably good job. But the more Fairlight capabilities there are, the less we need to stray outside Resolve. It's just confirmation that DaVinci Resolve is by far the best way to invest both time and a little money into. Great video, Dunna - thanks. Keep 'em coming.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  2 года назад +2

      Amen to that! It’s been a little tough to trudge through things in fairlight that would be so easy and so basic in pro tools (what I’m used to from my recording engineer/producer life) but they’re slowly making it easier to get things done!

    • @The_Doc_Rocks
      @The_Doc_Rocks 2 года назад +3

      @@dunnadidit Also worth pointing out that Resolve/Fairlight recognises most VST or AU audio plugins. Well worth exploring whatever plugins you may have in either format (VST or AU if on Mac) and seeing just how much can be done with those within Fairlight. For example, my current project needs some nice gentle audio compression, (to even out some extremely quiet audio with some very loud audio), and I'm using the Waves C1 stereo compressor - all within Fairlight. Too easy to forget that those are all available to us sometimes.

    • @dunnadidit

      100%!! One of the reasons I haven’t done many sound tutorials in resolve is because I’m always using izotope, or slate, or fabfilter plugins and not everyone has access to them lol 😂

    As a musician who wants to create content and Davinci user. This is so incredibly helpful. If I’m doing a play through up and I need to sync my camera audio/video with the recorded audio in my daw I no longer have to line it up by hand via eyeballing the waveform/transients. I should be able to load in the song to Davinci, set the tempo and time signature, and then snap the camera audio to the grid. So stoked for this feature! Thanks for the rundown sir!

    AI analysing the tempo might be a tall order, but surely BMD could add the tap tempo functionality. Something tells me that apply the grid on the edit and cut page is also something that is completely doable. The videos that I saw on this, it was obvious to me that the youTuber didn't know how to count the tempo either.
    They could also incorporate the tempo into calculating echos for vocals as well. Really bad hearing amateur mixers add echos that are off time to the tempo.
    This is long awaited for a lot of people using Resolve- I just feel that they could have consulted with some users and got it closer ( in my opinion ) but I think you got it right as to how it is now. Good job.

      I agree with you across the board. I’ve been a music producer/recording engineer for 15 years and these are functions that have been inside music softwares (that are pretty similar to the fair light page) for years. So hopefully they’ll see that and start to add those things too.

I sorted this specific function out on my own because I have a hefty background in music production (3 college diplomas and 15 years or so of experience) so it was fairly obvious to me when I saw it in a few other videos and it wasn't doing what they said it was doing. That being said, there are a handful of really great davinci based channels that have been really helpful for my process of learning, Darren Mostyn, Mr. Alex Tech, and Casey Faris amongst others! Usually, when there's a new update, I'll just do a search and watch whoever was quickest to get videos out lol.

    you can cut a 4x4 beat, 4x2, what ever, and , check out the time, and copy and paste that time to all the others clips, and all going to be cut to the beat, all going to have the same duration. But you should clean and delete the useless parts of the clips before do it, because you could delete a important or a good material. But i dont know, i do this mechanical in real time, doing a first past clean all an divide large clips, and press play an cut in real time with a shortcut, Q (for cut before) and W (to cut after). But for begginers its ok

    I appreciate their effort but at the moment this feature is so badly implemented /clunky that's pretty much unusable/reliable. The fact that it's only available from the Fairview tab makes it very awkward and hard to really use to snap your footage with a proper workflow. Also, the fact that the at the end of the day it's still working on the video (frames) grid makes it impossible to truly aligh anything properly. When you're play head is straight on a beat and add a marker, this marker doesn't snaps right on the beat, it snaps pretty far beside, probably snapping with a frame instead of an actual beat and measure. Until DaVincii figures out how to reconcile the Frames and the audio sample, this will never been a good workflow and syncing stuff with all ways be amateurish at best. They should really analyse how Vegas Pro deals with that, it's flawless.
