Duckweed has been the bane of my existence! Some now travelled on a plant when I was new to fish keeping and has always been floating around the house some how. XD

I use the siphon hose when doing water changes to remove any duckweed, start a siphon in the tank and then flip it upside down and skim the water surface from under the water or hold it upside down in a corner, then just follow it down as the water comes down with the water change. same principle as the surface skimmer but upside down and under the water without needing an actual surface skimmer pump

YES, red root floater and duckweed is just a mess. I have an old livestream where I was picking them out of the red root. Brings back bad memories, lol!

I think the dwarf gourami might be true. Have tanks that all got contaminated at the same time and the tank with the gourami doesn't fill up nearly as full.

I love my duckweed, but when removing it does takes time. You can also remove the duckweed from the surface with a cup for a week or so and it will be gone eventually.

For the surface skimmer will it suck up my baby shrimps that are resting on the duckweed?

they should jump out of the way once things start moving

removal is easy...remove all you see with a fishnet 2-3 days in a row...but the benefits from duckweed says you should keep it...

  • @DanielKeepingFish

Or you can collect every piece of fish keeping equipment you have, pile it up and set fire to it. That MIGHT get rid of it. 😉

At least temporarily. Duckweed may be like a reverse mogwai though where fire turns it into a gremlin

@@craigbroderick8935 i do. Its saved a lot of fish for me a couple of times when ive accidentally pinched airline and stopped sponge filters.
I just added a bunch of duckweed, got the filters going again and it helps to buffer the ammonia

Feather head minnows and giant danios work.
I threw a hundred feather heads into a huge pond that was infested with duckweed and they ate it all!
