  • Hey guys, Today today I'm going to show you guys how to import .SVG files into your Freecad model and how to convert the the SVG into a sketch as well as making a 3D object.
    I know I'm using an old version of Freecad. I've updated the application after this video and upcoming videos will be up to date. I've checked and all information in this video is still relevant in the Freecad 0.18 and it's all the same steps.

    Please do more videos on Freecad. You have a good way of explaining things and you are easy to follow. Yes, there are a lot of freecad tutorial videos out there, but they aren’t all good.

    Thank you for this!
    Coming from the Adobe side of design, I am sure that the majority of my creative work for 3D printing and CNC will start in Illustrator. This definitely helps bridge the gap between the two programs until I am more comfortable

    Thanks for your video. Can you do a tutorial about Path Workbench?

    When I import it comes in as paths not bodies and I can't select multiple? How can i?

    How could I select all the points on the cuff and them move them at once (away from the hand)?

    • @TabletopRobotics
      @TabletopRobotics  3 года назад +1

      Go the the sketch workbench and open the sketch. Next go to the corner of the cuff and while holding the left mouse button drag the selection square over the entire cuff. next in the toolbar select sketch, then sketcher tools, then move of just (ctr+M). After that just select where you want the new position to be. Hope this helps :)

      @@TabletopRobotics Thanks!!! Any way to specify offset (only gives angle/offset from a random vertex).
      Any way to rotate it?

    • @TabletopRobotics
      @TabletopRobotics  3 года назад

      To make the offset use construction lines and constrain the line to a specific angle and distance. To my knowledge there is no way to rotate geometries within a sketch.

      @@TabletopRobotics is there some workaround in another work bench to do rotations? I tried in draft with "convert bidirectionality between draft and sketch" but geometry gets shifted for unknown amounts when I do that.
      Thanks for your knowledge!!

      Honestly the way your doing it with "convert bidirectionality between draft and sketch" is the way i would do it. I don't know why some geometry gets shifted, but the one thing you could try is to constrain a point of the geometries you don't want to move with a reference like (0,0).

    3:15 -> I don't quite follow your tutorial. First you grouped everything into a sketch, but now you have again the three separated bodies. It is confusing

    This was very useful, but I had to rewind a couple of times after you transitioned to the second part. You moved into it without any warning and reused the imported svg drawings rather than using the sketch that you created in the first part. A more definitive transition would be less confusing.

    Important- make sure to use an obscure type of file, and don't explain how to get it from a jpeg,etc. Oh, sorry, you've already done that!
