I saw Vitali in a match in Oberhausen, Germany in the early 2000s. I was always a boxing fan but had never been to a heavyweight match live. It was a good deal as they had premium seating for US military and their families. It was a long fight, and I could not believe the sound of the punches connecting. It sounded like a a tree falling over and over. It really put it into perspective just how hard these guys hit.

It's a big time fail rope a dope by Briggs, he doesn't have stamina to defend by moving his body out way, so he basically intentionally is eating those shots, so he sees every shot is why he doesn't get caught with any shots he doesn't see, he was betting the whole time on his power and a one shot ko which is bad strategy because Vitale also got a good chin

It all comes down to one boxer being just a tiny fraction of a second faster than the other. Those slightly faster reflexes make all the difference. And then throw in pinpoint accuracy and insane combos. Klitschko was loading up and throwing those from beside his ear, and Briggs still couldn’t duck them. No doubt Briggs has grit, but this fight shows that all those chiseled muscles and the loud personality mean nothing in the end.

In the end, after all the training, all the miles on the road jogging, all sparring, and all the pre-fight hype, boxing ends up like everything else.
It comes down to soundness of mind- otherwise known as sobriety.
Many great fighters have gone far until their soundness of mind became important. Then they lost-- and lost everything.

Griggs’s head was a punching bag for Klitscho and had to do permanent damage to Griggs’s BRAIN. I love boxing but I don’t like what the punches do to boxers brains. Many boxers become punch drunk from getting their brains wracked around inside their skulls. I always admired Mohammad Ali. For always dodging so many punches to his head. Mohammed Ali was by far the best tactical boxer of all time. His left jab was also incredible.

The only thing proven here is that Shannon Briggs can take a nasty beating and still stand when most would have dropped ... The cannon ran out of amo in the 2nd round and kept going so that alone is worth his props especially after the fact he was immediately hospitalized

Not sure if it was just the editing, but it looked like for every 100 punches Klitschko landed, Briggs landed 1. I wonder if Klitschko held back from knocking Briggs out so he could keep teaching him a lesson through the entire bout.

I met briggs when he was still coming up, he was training in Palm Springs. He was young, probably only weighed from memory about 215 lbs. Shannon Briggs was very quiet and polite, he wrote poetry and played chess. Couldn't be nicer. So I was shocked, what he became years later. There was another prominent heavyweight those couple of weeks, who was an complete prick but for sake of not gossiping I won't mention their name.
