    Wladimir Klitschko was always a class act. If you faced "Merciless" Ray Mercer and not taking him seriously, that could end badly and Wlad remembered his great misstake in similar tough Ross "The Boss" Puritty so with a seasoned Ray Mercer, Wladimir would be sharp and not careless. Mercer was since Dec. 1996 undefeated in the ring (7-0-0, KO's 6) and had his last fight just 4 months prior this WBO world title fight so Mercer had no ring rust to talk about. Sure past his prime but still one last "hurra".

      @@BooBooDaFoo330 They made them look Mediocre. Only Lennox and Vitali would stand a chance against prime Wlad. And the Lennox fight wouldn't make sense because both were trained by Steward in their prime. Klitschko had the best jab in history, the best footwork in heavyweight history, the best lead left hook in history , the most athleticism and the most power in heavyweight history - the words of Emanuel Steward. Steward said his biggest flaw was not letting his hands go. He supposedly only fought at 60% power when Steward was training him. You can see Steward screaming at Klitschko to let his hands go in the Chambers fight. His chin was fine. He ate an uppercut from AJ that would flatline most. His biggest flaw was mentality, and Steward took that flaw away when he was with him. If Steward hadn't died he'd probably still be champion.

      @LobotomyMeat 2 месяца назад +6

      In what way? Vitali had a better chin. That’s about it. Wlad hit harder, and was far more skilled overall. Vitali was a brawler with a decent engine (for his size) and a granite chin. Look what Chris Byrd did to Vitali.

    • @BrownBomber92181
      @BrownBomber92181 2 месяца назад +8

      @@LobotomyMeatyou're absolutely 100% wrong. Yes Vitali had a better chin, but he was anything but a brawler. He was much more of a skilled and well rounded fighter compared to Wlad. Wlad was just more athletic and less robotic. He could only fight one way, moving straight forward and walking down his opponent. When that didn't work, he would lose. Vitali could lead, box and counter with the best of him. Just watch the Lewis fight and how he constantly made Lewis miss and immediately counter. No one had ever done that to Lewis. Look how badly Wlad struggled with the brawler Peter, so much so he never rematched him even when Peter was the heavyweight champ. Vitali fought him after a 4.5 year layoff and absolutely pummeled Peter. Something Wlad couldn't do until several years later after Peter was completely shot.

    • @jimbyrne2328
      @jimbyrne2328 2 месяца назад +16

      Vitali was never behind on points after the 2nd round. He retired due to injury against Byrd and Lewis. Vitali was only beaten by injuries. He was never on the canvas during His whole career either. He was leading Byrd and Lewis before the injuries.@@LobotomyMeat

    • @calvinmay35
      @calvinmay35 2 месяца назад +2

      Vitali's potential was better. But Wlad's record (actual) was better. Although it was ultimately injuries, I wonder if Vitali temporarily stepping away was to open the door for a possible undisputed path for his little bro, Wlad. I think Vitali's ambition might have been a little compromised knowing the ultimate goal could never be a possibility if they were both active at the same time.

    • @BrownBomber92181
      @BrownBomber92181 2 месяца назад +4

      @@calvinmay35 obviously Wlad had the longer reign, but Vitali definitely faced the better opposition. Wlad would tend to go after the weaker parts of the division. Lewis tops anyone Wlad ever faced, but remember he didn't want to rematch Sanders, Vitali did and destroyed him. He also had the chance to rematch Peter but didn't, even when Peter had the other title Wlad was missing, the WBC. Vitali after a 4.5 year layoff ended up facing him without a tuneup and still destroyed him. Wlad had the opportunity to face Chisora and pulled out. Vitali ended up facing and dominating him. Then dont forget Wlad wanted nothing to do with the undefeated challenger Arreola. Vitali never screwed around with facing bums and no hopers

    -Mercer NEVER had a “granite chin”, to take a good punch one needs good strong legs and neck muscles.
    -Mercer beat a green inexperienced Tommy Morrison. His highlights were a very game effort against Lennox Lewis and Holyfield.
    -He literally threw a fit, a temper tantrum when he lost to Holyfield. Go back and watch the decision. Mercer ran across the ring like a child who didn’t get his way.
    -He received Karma for what he did to Morrison (by continuously hitting a knocked out man EVEN after the ref put his hands on Mercer to stop the fight), when Shannon Briggs beat him almost exactly the way Mercer did Morrison. Caught him on the ropes and pummeled him until Mercer collapsed. Lol, that’s what you call Karma, Ray.
    -Lastly, he made the mistake of calling Klitchsco the “European Tommy Morrison” and well… let’s just say, Mercer are those words by getting literally rag dolled in there against Klitchsco.

      @alkispanou3781 it always seems to be the answer for everyone, apparently every older boxer is better, people never appreciate what it is in a moment until it's gone and every new generational fighter they say the old one is better because of the dislike that's why we have to be content and be appreciative of the moment because when that moment passes you'll look back and keep saying the same s*** over and over again

    @gwmba1989 2 месяца назад +9

    Wlad got more media attention than his older brother Vitali, but the latter was the better fighter of the two. Mercer, well to be honest, I always thought he was overrated. He got outboxed by a 42 year old Larry Holmes and had other losses to veteran fighters and even journeymen.. His best performances was against Lennox Lewis and Tommy Morrison. I actually thought he deserved a draw against Lewis but that's how boxing goes. Regarding his fight against Wlad, well it was more of an execution than a fight. Mercer clearly had nothing left but a jab and a good chin. However, in his defence, he was 42 years old when he fought Wlad, which was about six years past his prime. At 42, Mercer was a sitting duck for a sharp- shooter like Wlad. Had Wlad fought Mercer anywhere before 1999 instead of 2002, Mercer might have had a better chance. Forty two is old for a boxer!

    Both Klitchko brothers are seriously intellectual guys- certainly more than many fighters, and their academic achievements as well as others are well documented. My theory with Wlad is that once he got hurt for real in the ring, (ie) hurt in the head, he really began to contemplate the possible brain damage which could occur in the ring, and made the conscious decision to completely change his style (something most boxers simply can not accomplish for whatever reason), and developed his highly cautious, ultra defensive, sometimes unwatchable, yet extremely effective style which involved excessive holding with very limited punching- most likely via hundreds, if not thousands of rounds of sparring. Many of his title defences were like watching CSPAN, including his loss to Fury, but his final fight against AJ where he let his nuts hang regained my respect 100%.
