I have enjoyed your videos for many years. Did my basic training at Cape May long, long ago. Served four years with the last two on a polar ice breaker. Great maturing experience that also gave me a four year degree on the G.I. Bill. While in Cape May, you could have also done a "day in the life" of a recruit in boot camp......

I absolutely LOVE this video, one of my favorites of yours to date. I have always had the deepest respect for the Coast Guard who venture out in the worst conditions to help people in distress. I appreciated the respect you had for them as well and the respect for the vessel when you each took the helm. I'll be watching this one again!! Thank you, Captains, for all you do!

What an amazing time being able to train with the guys who save so many fellow boaters, plus giving us a peek inside some of the training they have to go thru, I Boat on the great Lakes and hear a lot of slack about the US Coast Guard BUT when you need them they come out no matter what the weather, having to deal with an occasional boarding is not an issue to me at all, People need to realize those boardings are mostly to make sure everything is safe and up to snuff so you dont have issues out there jeopardizing your time on the water and everyone around you, remember when you need help they will show up and usually get other boats to assist as well, always Monitor channel 16 someone's life may depend on you some day just because your the closest to them,

Emily & Amanda, I stumbled on to your channel this past summer when I was dreaming about cobia fishing and really appreciate the educational details which a lot of fishing shows skip over. I spent 3 months at Cape May during the fall of 89… Alpha 132! I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't served in U.S. Coast Guard, I truly miss it. LOL, I still call out "Coming Up" and now my little niece and nephew love to scream it out. I will say Oscar has really gotten some upgrades since I was in, haha. Like others have said, thanks for the positive exposure, the U.S. Coast Guard is just plain awesome. Next you got to get with the ATON crew! More fun than the SAR crew, haha. Thanks and Semper Paratus!

Those heaving lines are a lot different from what we used, USN retired in 1998. They are much larger and they have the orange ball instead of lead filed monkey's fist. Good heaving line throwers aren't as common as you think. Glad you had fun with the Coasties, they really are a great bunch of people doing amazing things.

Nice video, ladies! Now, if you REALLY want to do something crazy, see if you can talk your way into a ride on a USCG 47' motor lifeboat at Cape Disappointment, where the Columbia River goes into the ocean between Oregon and Washington. I guarantee you an absolute 'e ticket' ride! Nothing like flopping around in 18-20' surf, or going over sideways to about 90 degrees! Cheers from a former "puddle pirate"/"shallow water sailor"! 😜
