  • This is a quick video discussing the benefits and technique of great exercise taken from the Feldenkrais Method that we use a lot to help free up stiffness in the thoracic region (upper back) and the neck. Two great articles I suggest you to read that shows you how we include this in our corrective exercise for programs for neck pain are shown below.

We need rotation to do the simplest of tasks such as walking, turning to look over your shoulder when reversing the car out the driveway, or looking to cross the street. But because we have taught the body how to stiffen the area that is the only area that can do this, we now have to cheat, we have to find another way. We also lose power with our arms without rotation. This is an awesome exercise to help restore the lost mobility. On its own it will not be enough as you will still need a lot of other exercises and movements, but it is a good exercise to use in the early stages of corrective exercise.
Other great articles to read with additional information relating to shoulder stability, serratus anterior strength and scapula dysfunction are shown in the links below

This is also a very relaxing exercise that many people use as a form of meditation to help deal with mental stress. I myself have often used this early in the morning when the sun is coming up and it is extremely soothing to your mind and body. The benefits of exercise in dealing with anxiety, stress and depression cannot be overstated and this is one of those exercises that can provide enormous relief. How long do I receive this exercises effectiveness, and how long I can do exercise each time? My thoracic spine and neck spine make me tightening up, and breathing is difficulty sometime.

@@jackleung3458 I suggest to do 2-3 sets of 10 reps each day. As for how long it will take to make a difference that is impossible to answer as each person is different. You will also need to do other things that work on stabilizing and moving correctly in order for the stiffness to stay away for good. I suggest to read this article for more ideas noregretspt.com.au/index.php/resources/blog/43-2014/461-13-exercises-to-strengthen-your-neck-to-eliminate-pain-tension

@@Noregretspt Thank you Sir, I have a left shoulder up due to a wrong neck traction stetting ( 39 P pulling force, and 0 degree angle, computerized machine), is it neck spine cause or thoractic spine cause?

@@jackleung3458 That is impossible for me to determine without seeing you or having more information. In most cases the thoracic dysfunction happens first.

There is many things to consider with this injury as the cause of the problem can differ from person to person. I would say though that there is a high chance of dysfunction with the scapula and shoulder. This would be the first thing I would suspect, but I would have to go through a stack of assessments to be sure. Shoulders are very tricky to work with as there is so many muscles that can contribute to problems causing dysfunction that keeps pain and stiffness active. There is a ton of articles to check out that may help you but I would suggest to download the report that has all of my tests and exercises for you to follow. You will find that report in the article below that will give you some good tips www.noregretspt.com.au/index.php/resources/blog/43-2014/272-top-5-shoulder-stability-exercises

@@Noregretspt oh wow thanks for taking your time, I am a massage therapist, doing almost two hors of feldenkrais daily since a month ago, with a fused back, and several injuries. I'll check it out appreciate your response, for me shoulders are easier, than knowing the source of lower back pain, either it is, tight pecs, levator, and tight trps and romboids, feldenkrais is slowly putting readjusting my body.

There is a lot more to the shoulders than tight muscles and these muscles are often reacting to weakness elsewhere. Anyway I hope this video helps you

Don't worry too much you are not the only one. In a perfect world we would all be able to do this but as long as you can improve on where you currently are that is all that matters
