10 episodes deep, over 14 days of hunting to take down bull #1 in Idaho.. Was it supposed to be easy? Unlikely... This is why we live for the PUBLIC LAND HUSTLE 🤘🤘🙏 Thanks for being a part of this.. Every little bit counts.. Smash that like button if you're digging the series 🙏
Good work Dan. Good effort on the head cam; stick with it and will get more fluid. I put a few layers of black tape over the speaker and leave the beep on to know when its recording. I think it works better directly on head. If you want an Elk Shape hat with the solvid stich in the side, send one over. You have the dedication, now just need to get dialed in.
Thank you for this video. I’ve been trying to find something to show my buddy that gives good examples of the tactical situation when trying to get these animals with a bow during the rut. I loved the call sequence where you went heavy with the cow calls and scraping. Good simulation to show my friend. Also I’m happy you showed your mindset in real time explaining how you were processing the wind and you decisions on movement because of it. This is an anti-Primos video for sure. Thanks again. I’ll be showing him this as a very good example of how it can be done.
Congratulations Dan 🤘🏻🤘🏻. Elk hunting, in the mountains, snow, 4x4, ATV, dirt bike , you’re living the dream Bro 💪🏻💪🏻. Great breakdown and explanation of the hunt. Solid.
Dan, Knowing you for past ten years can you do an episode or some more about calling. I can bugle with a reed, but struggle making a good cow call with it. Thanks living this series.
Like you said in a newer video about “sucking at elk hunting” I can’t find a public land bull to save my life in northern Idaho. I’ve hiked every mountain I could find lol. Awesome video man!
Congrats Dan on a great bull👍. I have to say I’m super impressed filming, calling ,raking with a dead head lol all solo and getting it done is an amazing accomplishment. Think anyone who bow hunts and tries to film can appreciate how much is really going on in that moment! Well done man and look forward to following along with the rest of your season🤘🇨🇦🎯 great job guys!
@@ElkShape oh yes for sure, I can relate to that up here in alberta its similar, everything close to the trails and roads get hit pretty hard on the public, so I look at the maps and pick spots that are far from the easy to get to spots lol
Bro, you are the man. AWESOME content. Any chance you would ever do a video break down explaining some of your hunting strategy? For example- why exactly you chose to back out when you got eyes on that first bull in the video. Still learning the basics. Appreciate you!
Nice video, congrats on the bull. I see I'm not the only one struggling to get the kill shot on film. Idaho's archaic rules make it challenging to self-film. I'm not sure I like the Go-Pro angle from behind your head, but not sure I've got a better solution. I'm thinking of a shoulder strap mount that you can turn 90* to get the shot for this coming season.
I appreciate Elk hunting as much as the next hunter.. Your knowledge and expertise about this species is well received.. At 86 I have a little knowledge about what is involved in your pursuit. My 50 years experience as a Professional Photographer would lead me say reluctantly that your solo elk hunts with my favorite weapon is a dismal failure.. I don’t know how many fabrics in your hat that I was attempting to count or trying to help move your cam to see the elk being pursued.. Get rid of that monstrosity and the Go Pro . Your not cut out for this method of hunting. Seek out a photographer who is in good shape physically to follow you up and down that challenging countryside.. Wish l could help ..
Congrats on the first elk of 2020! Thanks for answering my question too! Great breakdown of how it all went down and why you made the decisions that you did. I think answering the “why?” Is what helps me the most.
When I came to full draw and settled in, Bull wasn't looking right at me, his body language was relaxed and I felt confident...contrast that with a video or two back in the series, I had a bull at 58 yards quartering to and he was on full alert and very suspicious so that was a no go... it comes with experience, repetition, and even then, you can still make a mistake. -DS
Appreciate your efforts and what your trying to accomplish! Self filming is a challenge, but if the goal is to produce content I feel would better to have a camera man. Kill shot was missed. Speaking with the reed in your mouth can be hard to hear sometimes. Again thanks for sharing.
the GOAL is to punch my tag...period. Load the freezer my man, but I can understand the sentiment...My camera man had to bounce home due to a family emergency last minute and I wasn't about to stop hunting. Thanks for watching. -DS

Idaho over crowded, come to Colorado if you want to see 10 hunters per elk.... Great vid, great hunt! Congrats
Colorado is too far for me given the unlimited OTC tags, I'll stick close to home but I definitely feel ya! -DS

Great episode! Opening archery weekend in Montana was nuts. 90 degrees on Sat, blizzard on Monday. Thanks for the motivation!
I blame COVID!!! 😂
Congrats Dan!!
Awesome video man!! Great hunt, all the work paid off! Its definitely a great feeling when everything comes together, congrats buddy!
You got that right! That was a really tough hunt in my opinion due to the hunting pressure. -DS

thank you for this great series
Glad you enjoy it!
Awesome hunt! Great job.
Hell yeah Dan!
Nice unique bull!! Great fronts! Bet he’d have been a STUD in a couple years...but will taste better this year!!!!
Totally robbed him of his potential agreed... however I did eat steak for dinner last night and he's deliciously tender!!!!! -DS
Congrats Dan! Good hunting!
Nice bull. Great eats! Fires ruined our hunt here in OR this year so I'm living it through you and some others. Great job Dan!
Sorry to hear that
Congrats on the bull bud! I’m not sure if you could have done it without the natural sounds of that deadhead! 😂 Ready for the rest of the season.
😂😂😂

Congratulations on your bull maybe someday we will meet up in Idaho my friend
Awesome video great bull👍👍 this series is badass thanks. I live in Idaho and there is some rugged woods here. What is the head cam your using?
Solvid - look it up, made by a dude who also lives in Idaho! Oh and I think there's a discount code maybe (elkshape).
@@ElkShape awesome thank you👍
Congrats from South Africa Bro!
Thanks Craig!
Congrats bro
Let’s Go!
Congrats on the first elk of 2020! Thanks for answering my question too! Great breakdown of how it all went down and why you made the decisions that you did. I think answering the “why?” Is what helps me the most.
You bet!
Epic!
Great stuff, his fronts were super long..
Indeed!
Nice job! Congratulations! Question. What strings do you use on your bow and what color are the? Thank you.
BCY 454 or 452x and colors are usually natural with color serving! -DS
Heck yes!! Not a huge fan of quartering to shots either! When did you decide this was gonna be a shot you were take?

Dude. Way to get it done.
Sweet bull
thanks!
Dan any thoughts on the Kifaru pack system after packing this bull out. Is it everything you thought it would be?
YES - ruclips.net/video/o4O7XycfWYk/видео.html
Did you have to pre range or did you range him just before taking the shot. Nice harvest!
Can't knock the hustle!!!
It's my love language! -DS
Congrats on the hunt 👏. What is the name of the intro song on this video?
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
wait I thought you shoot a thumb release for hunting.
Most of the time, but my back-up bow likes the scott XT so that's what I used. -DS
I heard when you hang a dead head in a tree if you find one you’ll have a successful hunt but I didn’t know it worked that fast
Hell yeah brother it’s about time lol jk man congrats and keep after it
😂
Congrats! what zone was this?
👍👍👍👍
Epic kill dan keep it up!!!
