  • Today on The Skid Factory we're at Summernats 35 with Millsi's Barra Bedford and Al's Big Block Crown!
    Unfortunately the Crown has suffered some damage to the transmission after a run down Skid Row but we still enjoyed the event nonetheless!

      @@theskidfactory Going in my 1982 Fairmont Futura that was given to me by my grandmother when I was 16. It has always been really slow so I figured a Barra and a 6hp ought to wake it up. (I replied earlier with a photo link but I guess it got removed)

    I've been going since the first one. Saturday arvo was pretty wild. The heat and beers always brings out the "looseness" of the crowd. I stayed away from that area and chilled out. By Sunday arv I was desperate to get back to the Sunny Coast 🌞 .
    I'm lucky to have a son living in Canberra too.

    The Stittmobile has some history. Started off NA hooning around the Castle Hill showgrounds on Friday nights in between racing F1 rc cars. It had a turbo added, got stolen and recovered. Had a lot of work done to the rear suspension, full respray and lots of polished engine parts.
    And blown head gaskets. 7Ms love a blown head gasket.

    Thanks, Al. I've copped some stick by commenting about d-heads putting organised events like Summernats at risk of being shut down. Not only does is put the event at risk, but as the saying goes, "It's all fun and games until someone has to call an ambulance."

    It was great to meet and have a chat with you whilst you were getting the Crown loaded onto the truck Al! Shame the car didnt last the duration of the weekend. Im glad you mentioned what you did at the end of this video, hooefully the fact that its coming from you guys will hit home for a few blokes who need to pull their heads in to keep the great event going in the future.     great to see Stitty made it into the episode. kind of inevitable really, a local with another Crown (which he's had for about 20-odd years). I've ridden in that dicky-seat and still got pics of what it looked like before its transformation. top episode, unfortunately Summernats never really has my attention because it has everyone else's, and yeah... inevitably it leads to what happened on 'that' Saturday. problem is bogans don't know a limit, and won't until something becomes that limit. I'd rather save my money and keep away from that shit, personally.

      I'm taking mine next year hopefully but will be parking up Saturday about 2pm and leave it there til Sunday to avoid the dickheads, probably even earlier cause I'll be watching the burnout comp lol
      Though maybe I'll take mine into the burnout eliminations just for shits n giggles, only a stock v6 with a turbo setup and a t5 so it's got no chance of even qualifying lol

    After modifying cars for 30 years it makes me respect what some factory engineers are capable of. I still love watching this stuff though, and still love swinging the spanners....and crimpers.....and the welder. I'll never get it as good as factory but certainly have fun trying. I grew up a grommet but the older I get the more bogan I get.

    at least the crown was there! good to see the bedford back on the road too. how's Jays (Low Standards youtube) Ratty RX3 with the 3 rotor! that's got some serious work (and his 2JZ oddysee) how good is Heath's Torana Hatch, have seen a few snippets on it and it's an epic build on so many levels, pretty much everything has "drillium" (lightened with holes drilled in it) he even made his own muffler in 90s supercar style.

      I would have happily accepted a ride in the RX3 mate. The lap in RotorBens ute took quite a while due to 2400rpm idle speed and a Honda half radiator but we made lots of new friends randomly pulling up in peoples campsites to let it cool down every couple of hundred metres.

      Many lessons learned. I'd suggest a little bit of self editing of the behaviour among groups is required. That means not glorifying skids through crowds outside maccas until the cops show up. I agree the security hired were low key useless. I agree the yobs got loose. Its your event. Treat it like its your kid's backyard party and it will grown up strong respectful and disciplined. Sometimes the kid needs a clip over the ear and a quiet word

    HK,T,G can be easily identified by taillights, the HK has the slim lights with the chrom trim extending across the boot, the HT and HG lights are similar but the HT has a chrome strip between the red and amber lenses, HG doesn't. So in short the monaro was a HK and the premier was a HG.

    1:21 Looks like that's a Brougham. They had a slightly longer body than the Kingswood/Premier, both in the boot and a longer rear door. If memory serves, they came with the Chev 307 c.i. V8. Of course, this was before the Statesman model came along to replace it. Haven't seen one of those since the mid '80s. 👍

    Great video by yourself & Gus. Your words at the end are very true regarding stupid antics by the snall minded minority which could potentially make life difficult for the organisers of the event who may be asked by the authorities who give permission as to what solutions they could introduce to minimise or eliminate a repeat occurrence and as many in power these days they might be looking for reasons to kill fun for thousands of folk who not only build these cars but go along to admire the cars and have a good time. That minority just have to grow up or indeed grow a brain!!

    That kinda stuff going on in the state I live and that’s just regular road driving worlds going mad apparently everywhere I’ve been lucky myself multiple people going through red light not even paying attention to others on road one person had ear buds in
