As the skipper of 885/12 I can tell him that he is in for a real treat when he takes delivery. We picked our boat up Mid November '23 and sailed pretty much straight across the Atlantic. We have now passed into the Pacific with the Oyster World Rally fleet and head to the Galapagos islands in the next few days. The boat is strong and powerful and delivers us across oceans in comfort. Welcome to the Oyster family it is a real experience.

As a Formula One fan and lifelong sailor, I'm glad to see you enjoying the natural power of wind - even though your boat is bigger than mine! The process at oyster sounds lovely and supportive of your new intention to enjoy time on the water.

Adrian Newey works for a rival team to one that I support. However, I respect him hugely and think he deserves all the best things in life.
He's worked his nuts off, generated wealth for those around him and all by doing something he genuinely loves. I brought his book (recommended), he's such a genuinely nice man.
Enjoy your boat Adrian. Respect to you.

Very interesting, didn't know Oyster would do a hard top bimini for you. Whilst Adrian Newy has clealy been more involved and tinkering with the design than some other owners might be you can tell that he's used to taking advice from experts onboard and using it to make decisions.
Wish I could come wiht him to the Amalfi coast :-)!

This is a perfectly natural progression. A lot of guys who like fast stuff also love sailing. I've only sailed little boats but man, it's a lot of fun. Big boats like Adrian Newey's beast would be something other. There's a shitload of area on those sails. It would really MOVE. Sometimes there's too much wind, then it's a problem. I wouldn't know how to deal with that, beyond taking down the sails, stowing them and turning the boat into the wind.

As much as I dislike ''Red Bull Racing'', I have the utmost respect for this gentleman from is great stint with ''Williams Racing'' to today; everywhere he's been working is magic, he left a trail of winning championships. I wish him the best sailing trips around the globe and hope that he docks is ''Oyster 885 hull14'' in Italy someday, very very close to the ''Ferrari Scuderia''...I'm positive that would be amazing for ''Ferrari'' and ''F1''. Best wishes to you Sir from Canada.

The propellers that can either propel or reverse-cycle generate power are what I'd want on a sail boat to generate power. Solar is neat, but it's hard to have enough surface area to do much with them.

Wonderful boat. What are the crewing plans? Having sailed about 90,000nm mainly in a Swan… it used to be that the safe limit of 2-handed sailing was about 50ft (provided you have a LOT of experience). Why? Because in heavy conditions crew stamina matters and has to be able to manage the failure of systems - and over 50ft the weights and loads are beyond the ability of 2 strong crew. These days hydraulic and powered systems can help, and if the boat’s new (reliable) maybe 58ft (the consensus these days). But even then it can lull one into a false sense of security - until a squall hits in confined waters and a winch jams.
Good sailing Adrian, and I hope you’ve got good crew lined up. After all, this is like a club rally driver buying a F1 car?
