I'm not too keen on the Rocksteady Stadium but I've considered purchasing the minirigs more than once and still haven't completely ruled them out. I've heard some complaints about connection issues with the minirigs and, of course, there's the flaky app that you also mentioned. I guess I also might be waiting to see if the company will eventually release an even better product for the money without the issues that exist with their current offerings.thank you for another great one, Alan! 😁👍👏
I think I’ve gotten lucky with my minirigs because I’ve had very few occasions with them not connecting. I’ve found that they start to mess up when I pull up the app while playing but when I don’t have the app open they work fine. But everyone will have different experiences. So happy with them for how long I’ve had them.
Never had any reliability issues with the speakers. Apps tend to be crap on most headphone and BT speakers so Minirig are no different on that score. Only thing is the BT link starts to go to crap past about 10ft and the battery life is no where near what they say in real world use. Was at a flow jam last week with a Minirig 3, 2.1 set up. Full blast in high gain you get about 3 hours max. The sub seems to last longer. Apparently the new Minirig 4 is slightly louder but has worse battery life? The reason why Minirigs tend to be patchy on BT performance and battery is because when it was released around 2009 it was cable only operation and all phones had headphone jacks. I have a V1 from 2010 and the battery still lasts forever as it doesn’t have BT. 15 years later and everyone uses BT. They kept the same body design and just shoe-horned in more electronics and different battery to cope with the competition. It’s such a small company that they obviously don’t have access to whatever the latest BT tech is today, making the wireless performance ok but not great. Because the non BT V1 was so unreal on its battery life they couldn’t sell a BT V2 with worse performance figures so they must have ‘massaged’ the run time number to make it look better than it is. I’ve never been able to get even close to the quoted 8 hours battery life on full volume. It’s not a huge deal for me as I can connect all my speakers to a power bank but sometimes that can induce noise on the audio depending on the power bank used. Anyway, they do sound great and the size is nice but they aren’t perfect and do have some drawbacks that can be mitigated or lived with if you want portability and good sound at high volume.👍
I remember when the campaign was going on and I was tempted with the rocksteady, but didn't order them as I didn't really believe the claims, especially from crowdfunding track records lol. At this time, I already knew that the minirig mk3 bundle was a good sounding system which had proven itself already. If I'm honest, with the 2.1 setup, I'm pleasantly surprised the rocksteady speakers had good sound. That said, I'm somewhat happy with the minirig system I have. I personally find that the minirig sub is quite directional, and so I'm happy that the mk3's have some low-end themselves as they fill my rooms a little better. I agree, I think both companies should get together and make babies, but I'm not sure my wallet can handle that. Just curious, I looked into the app and saw that under the volume section, it presents sliders for the gain on the speakers as well as the sub (although the volume modes are offline). I don't have the best experience with the app, but do these save to the speakers, or have to be set each time you use the app? Anyways, thanks for the vid. Hoped you would make a vid about these.
no it wont stick once you leave the app and for me i cant even get the sub to max while using the app. quite frustrating. i wonder if rocksteady changed the tuning on the speaker after they brought out the sub. so many old reviews talk about the speakers having good abyss yet mine basically have none.
That pairing glitch with the mini rig would drive me up the wall. I don't use them much anymore but I have to praise Soundcore for the TWS pairing on the MB+. I use them a few times in the morning while getting ready for work. I will grab one of them and bring it in the bathroom for music during the shower etc and then when I head out to the bedroom to iron and get dressed, I power up the second one. Within 3 seconds every single time there is a super brief interruption in sound and the suckers kick in TWS perfectly. Every single time.
Bloody hell!!!! Alan Ross uploaded again 😎😎😎 Watched the whole thing as always. All I can take away from this video is that no matter 2001 or 2022, bs marketing has always been going on even way back then 😂. The subwoofer that comes with it is decent though I guess for a bright spot lol.
Still. The minirigs have been in the mini speaker market for 6-7 years. They have a bit more experience for sure. I am happy with my 2.2 minirig setup. And also. Mine are not really a hassle to pair like yours, Alan. The wireless lock works. It just takes some time. Sometimes you just turn them off and turn them on. I usually don't wait for that to work. I connect to one, forget the other one from my Bluetooth list and press the button twice for stereo only on the one I'm connected to. And they just work. Also. The sound is just amazing. My friend has built a 70 kg 15" subwoofer, which I haven't heard, but that won't be as impressive as the 2 minirig subs, for me. (I was about to say I'm too old for that boom boom stuff and then I realised that I'm 16😅).
big subs are not all about big bass, they can be just about extension, depends how you set them up. would like to see an upgraded minirig subwoofer that digs deeper rather than punchy as it is now.
@@alanrossreviews Yeah. That would be amazing. It would be trash for loudness, but amazing for low and mid level listening. Or a sub with adjustable tuning. "interchangeable bass port". That would be just awesome.
@@migks37 yes. True. I have no issues with my minirigs, but still. I had only 2 times when they weren't finding each other. That's it. Other than that, no interruptions during the listening sessions.
Best Rocksteady review comparison I've seen and heard! Apparently there's a Rocksteady 2.0 version now, just like there's Minirig 4 going on, so round 2 clash?🤨🤔🤷🏾♂️
@@alanrossreviews Yep 😂 Not a big fan of these unfortunately. The frequency responses provided by the brand are really funny though 🤔 Happy new year Alan 😁
Hi Alan Ross, thanks for the Rocksteady Stadium 2.1 review! Question: I have the wonderful JBL Encore Essential. Will the Rocksteady 2.1 setup with subwoofer provide the same amount of bass as the JBL Encore? Thanks!
Sadly the subwoofer overpowers the satellites and has to be turned down so that kills the bass. Of course you could simply leave it at max but from memory youd be better off with the encore for a meaty sound. I hear there is a new version of the rocksteady and techder audios will be getting a setup soon
I can absolutely see how people would "hear" the rock steady satellite as having decent "deep" bass because of the drop at 200 and bump at 50 hz. Kinda like the Encore vs Boombox 2. Good ole human ear tricking us!
@@alanrossreviews Hey, it gets me all the time. The Rock Steady Satellites do "feel" like they have more deep bass but I know they really do not on paper.
The two passive radiators... I ma guessing they needed that much surface area but didn't want to go the racetrack route. Probably availability/cost of parts.
A kinda underwhelming and bulky setup. My Aiwa Exos 9 should blow it to bits. However - thanks for reminding me of ordering one of those Minirig 3 cuties! 😎👍
Going to use my spare audio $ on a second hand JBL 18" sub for my mobile soundsystem. I have not needed the full output of my little Tribit Blast yet so I will put the DIY projects on the back burner. Had a pair of DIY neo 10" pa speakers and 4x10" bass cab on my bicycle but it was way too heavy for anything but parades. (Soundcore Boom + is my new bike blaster). Most SPL per lb.! I use the Quadelix 5k all the time and love the zero hiss BT output for all my listening devices.
Hi Alan, how did you manage to get the Rocksteady sent to you? I live in germany and it seems, importing them from the us, dealing with tax and stuff, is my only option :(. Do you know, where to get them in europe?
I been watching sections of this video since you posted it and I was able to finish it today. Neither one really suits my taste but many rigs still got it but the fact you have to go so loud to get that deeper bass isn't the best. The Rock City speakers are meh but the sub is good. I think the next time JBL updates their party boost line they should include wireless stereo setup methods. Great video I should be posting a video myself by the end of the week
Mini Rig needs to come out with the "full rig"! Or shoot, even just an updated and larger subwoofer unit. I mean, it's wired so how much R&D is that really going to take? A DSP / Amp board, BMS and batteries.
@@alanrossreviews I have to imagine it's a problem of money maybe. I know it can't be cheap to roll out a new product but I would think at least a new sub would not be too bad.
I can hear some sorts of distortions with the Stadium speakers in high frequencies, I doesn't think it's coming from your recording.. looks like SBC limits them way more than the other speakers ? I'm not crazy you hear it too? this 7kHz peak is harsh too
@@alanrossreviews You're right but for me the highs are irritating and sounds like uboom with only the subwoofer, but the rest is really smooth cool and soft. Plus the fluffy deep bass that comes from the subwoofer is really good
@@DominikReviews its not as bad as the uboom hell, its just that 7khz bump really, the uboom starts off just after 6khz and keeps rising till eternity, well on my firmware anyway, apparently earfun have pulled the plug on oluvs magical tuning 🤭🤭
I am back to looking at the Minirig Mk 3 and alternatives. I would like to use portable speakers to a laptop and tablet away from mains electricity for RUclips and watching movies. Audio only is well covered by wi-fi and Bluetooth speakers - I have the battery powered B&O Beosound Level - great for steaming and internet radio using the mobile phone as a hotspot - not so good for video sources. Most computer speakers with USB need mains and would take up the single USB socket on the tablet (used for input or recharging but not both). Most Bluetooth (and wireless) speakers have poor latency - the lip sync is poor. Even working outside the difference between Bluetooth and DLNA over wi-fi is noticeable. There are many sources covering desktop speakers and also Bluetooth but even those claiming to look at speakers for a laptop mostly include mains powered speakers in their short list. Also, if I am back packing or working from the bottom of the garden the speaker needs to be up to transporting and not a tangled mess or wires to set up - they might need to be packed up rapidly when it starts to rain. I have 3.5mm jack now, but might not on the next laptop but maybe lossless, low latency Bluetooth will be in all new products; just not yet. I suspect there are no products on the market that provides a solution - battery powered, digital inputs (not lossy), low latency and decent hi-fi sound.
you wont get hi-fi sound on the cheap and can you even get hi-fi in a single speaker? im nto sure what counts as hi-fi these days. the minirigs can do a job with their low gain low latency inputs and can be daisy chained that way,
@@alanrossreviews I agree a single speaker does not provide the same sound stage as stereo. But something like the B&W Wedge and the Zeplin and soundbars do show that a single (big/long) device can achieve a good quality sound. The B&O Level is a stereo speaker but drivers are 20cm apart. I have a pair. The DSP room correcting has 330ms latency. Minirigs are very flexible paired and one or two bass units and good battery life but in travelling with them packing extra charging units instead of sharing a USB C (four outputs) one with the laptop. Minirigs are also not cheap; £530 for four speakers.
"unparalleled sound quality" Now indeed there is a sneaky phase eh? It has a positive connotation but as technicality, really anything different would not be parallel to them, better or worse. "Hear your favorite artists and tracks like never before" Well, yep. You have never had these speakers before so, true! hahah.
From what I'm gathering, You dont quite understand passive radiators? The passive acts the same as a port, by tuning the passive (with weight) to resonate somewhere down the natural rolloff near the fs and even below (point of least control, resonant point), it then takes over the job of resonating and creating sound where the main woofer would have falling output and rising distorion/excursion. They are essentially being used to output where the woofer is having trouble lol Check out some of the literature around passive radiators, they are awesome for resonating low, in a small space where a port wouldnt fit or so long it would create harmonics, or when dealing with high port air speed causing chuffing. We sell plenty of them to diy builders who, with today's long throw drivers and small boxes, are often met with challenging port parameters.
ok you added back the question mark. I have a reasonable understanding but im not a diyer and have never built my own units. i think you misunderstood what i was trying to say. not that you grab a passive radiator and just tune it from scratch as though you can set any frequency. im saying the tuned passive should match the roll off area of the woofer which you seem to be saying yourself. remember we are not talking about subwoofer boxes here, they are bluetooth speakers. the tuned passive should be selected to match the roll off of the woofer or you wont get much out of it no matter how low it can play. it can only play frequencies the woofer itself is playing.
@@alanrossreviews correct, but I think your still missing that the passive should be tuned lower than the natural rolloff of the woofer to gain the extra output from its use, otherwise if it's tuned to the same frequency, or too high, your playing the passive on top of the main woofer just causing a peak around the tuning frequency, not really gaining anything you couldn't have had from a sealed design that would be smaller. The only reason to include the passives is to gain low end output that your left without in a sealed design. Do we agree? 🧐
Hi, need your opinion to choose one speaker: - B&O a1 2gen - JBL Flip 6 - JBL Charge 5 - Bose Soundlink Flex Well, I’m looking for a portable speaker at home and for trips. Weight is sometimes an issue, but not always. Could you please give me a order from best to worst in terms of sound quality from my given options?
they are all very different form factors so end use scenario is key. for pure sound id get the charge 5. a1 1st gen sounds better than 2nd gen. i wouldnt get the flip 6 at all. the soundlink flex has great bass for its slim size. a1st gen has best sound per pound but its smaller and lays on its back and you need the tweeter point9ing towards you.
@@alanrossreviews Unfortunately the battery is too bad on the a1 1st gen, that’s why I‘d prefer the 2nd gen. If we break it down to Soundlink Flex and a1 2nd gen: would you still say it has best sound in these options per pound?
@@alanrossreviews and what means best sound per pound in numbers from 0-10? I’m trying to understand your ratings in terms of numbers? Which ratings for sound would you give the a1 1st gen, a1 2nd gen and Soundlink Flex?
@alanrossreviews Since you mentioned the Rocksteady Stadium have good stereo and soundstage. Would appreciate if you could tell what your top 3 bluetooth speakers would be for stereo pairing quality & soundstage? And yes, I will use your links when buying to support you.
the minirigs work well in 2.2 but are a pain to use. its important to remember in high end audio you dont normally have two drivers playing identical signals so close together as in the single speaker units you normally get as bluetooth speakers. it causes all sorts of issues and when you try them as a pair you double the soundstate issues with peaks and nulls all over the place as you move around. with the minirigs being single driver units they make for a much cleaner sound as a separate stereo pair. this is why i hesitate to say what is my best pick because depending on how you use them your experience will be quiet different unless you use single driver units. thats when those mono speakers jbl and others put out make more sense.
@@alanrossreviews Thanks. Last question. Which speakers in your experience have the best capability to produce highs with hifi clarity? Very EQable tweeters also an option.
@@FunkeXMix non are hifi like. there are reasons you pay 5 figures and more for true hifi. i know this question comes up a lot, which of these speakers around $300 sounds like a hifi, honestly none of them. the one i listen to most is the stormbox blast, its pretty eqable, its more hifi than most but its still nothing like true hifi.
@@alanrossreviews yes that was a big mistake. sonos need just to add a portable speaker like that and they will rock. just that sonos it's so expensive for what they deliver...
@@hugoboss9470ify Sonos bought the company Mayht this year (2022). They developed a new driver design, producing more bass in a smaller space. You can see the animations of the driver moving on their website. If Sonos manages to implement this new chassis technology in the upcomming Optimo and S36 speakers, i could be a real gamechanger. Based on this Mayht driver, they can develop a new Sonos Roam, with new LC3 BT Codec :).
for the price of the rocksteady setup I sure as hell hope it shakes the walls of your house because my old JBL 110 had pretty decent bass that sometimes rattled my windows with certain songs with the bass for about the same price and was loud enough for outdoor parties meanwhile maintaining very good sound quality. Those bluetooth subwoofers on both minirig and rocksteady still sound like midbass woofers more than actual subwoofers in all honesty and i'm 100% sure the jbl 110 got them beat in that category and matches their deep bass rumble as well(even though there's not much compared to my partybox 310 though)
It's not the amount of bass the point but the quality of the sound. Jbl is pretty well know for hats hight and overpowered bass. Tho I agree that the rock steady setup seems a bit too pricey.
@@Natsukashii1111 there's no real quality when its a midbass woofer (yes anything that peaks at 60-100hz and rolls off dramatically at 50hz is not a subwoofer) and not actually going deep at all and it has a major lack of detail all around in every range especially the midrange/upper midrange sounds muddy as all hell. Not good for the price they charge and with everything else on the market even without a subwoofer can get deeper higher quality bass and vastly superior mids and highs. I can guarantee you my aiwa exos 9 and partybox 110 and 310 would mop the floor with the rocksteady setup in sound quality and quantity.
@@alanrossreviews What does it mean out of phase? I have a 2.2 minirig but I was thinking of looking for a sub alternative to hit the lower frequencies. Don't get me wrong. The subwoofer give that nice punchy bass, but I do miss that bigger lower bass sound. Have you tried any subwoofer alternative that may work with output from minirig
the Rocksteady fails on the two satellites. The two speakers should be much more powerful for the size. A set up like this one should have everything. Loudness, deep bass and good stereo stage. I guess even two JBL flips 6 outperform this speakers yet they are half the size.
@@migks37 it has aux in, the vanatoo have an actual sub out but I’m sure you can figure out something with other desktop speakers too, Right now I have a way too big monoprice sub with my vanatoos so I might actually change it for this lol
@@ragecandyyes are definitely right, my mistake… it’s even possible to connect the minirigs to this sub, since the minirig has output connection that can be connected to the input of Rocksteady SUB. The only problem could be a slight delay on the sound.
There are bound to be problems due to either holes or overlays in frequency response between the sub and the speakers. This kind of tiny systems has to be tuned specifically to work together
@@NJ-wb1cz depends, the vanatoos for example cut out lower frequencies once you connect something to the sub out, you can do it with software or external dacs on other speakers, what I like is the small form factor tbh but I’m sure there are other better options…
The speakers (not the sub) are on the market for two years. I would suggest to wait the upgrade of them. If they make it louder and with more bass, and the could easily, then the system would be amazing.
@Alan Ross Reviews I get that and watched ha ha, they both sound good to me but I'm having doubts still on what to get, I think u just was looking for double assurance lol
The rockstead tweeter is absolutely horrible to listen to irl. Lots of distortion. I bought the set wheb they first started the campaign and immediately refunded. I tried so hard to like them, the sub was great if a little under powered, but those satellites sounded like something with an altec lansing badge.
Pointless because the Rocksteady fails on the two satellites. The two speakers should be much more powerful for the size. A set up like this one should have everything. Loudness, deep bass and good stereo stage. Two speakers in stereo won’t give you all of this.
@@gtb100dzikuss I said the Rocksteady failed terribly on the satellites, they are very soft and hardly help the sub with the bass… 2.1 portable system has advantage over two in stereo. I’m trying to say is if the company do it right, this system can be as powerful as two motion bom, with better stereo image and the option of more portability by caring just the two satellites. You wouldn’t cary two motion booms all the time with you, would you???

Great review again, fun and interesting...
happy new year 👍
@@alanrossreviews you too dear Alan. Keep up your nice works
Looks like another Alan Ross review. We all know and love. I'd say that's another major major go my friend ✌️🤘
I'd hope sound core tribit and JBL would all chain a subwoofer to it as many as you like btw. Would be nice I think
shows it can be done if they wanted to
That pairing glitch with the mini rig would drive me up the wall.

Alan Ross uploaded again 😎😎😎
Watched the whole thing as always. All I can take away from this video is that no matter 2001 or 2022, bs marketing has always been going on even way back then 😂.
The subwoofer that comes with it is decent though I guess for a bright spot lol.
yup, the sub saves the system but the speakers are not good enough imho
@@folteaiustindaniel4099 yeah a sub from minirig like that would be amazing, although the minirigs need better wireless connection.

Good ole human ear tricking us!
physcoacustics is real 💪
@@alanrossreviews Hey, it gets me all the time. The Rock Steady Satellites do "feel" like they have more deep bass but I know they really do not on paper.
The two passive radiators... I ma guessing they needed that much surface area but didn't want to go the racetrack route. Probably availability/cost of parts.
im not really sure of the benefits of passives bigger than the woofers 🤔

I been watching sections of this video since you posted it and I was able to finish it today. Neither one really suits my taste but many rigs still got it but the fact you have to go so loud to get that deeper bass isn't the best. The Rock City speakers are meh but the sub is good. I think the next time JBL updates their party boost line they should include wireless stereo setup methods. Great video I should be posting a video myself by the end of the week
Whats your video gonna about? 🤔
The 3 Tronsmart Bangs not the most interesting but for the people that are interested they should definitely know what to expect
Mini Rig needs to come out with the "full rig"!
Or shoot, even just an updated and larger subwoofer unit. I mean, it's wired so how much R&D is that really going to take? A DSP / Amp board, BMS and batteries.
not sure whats going on there, they seem to have decided to stick with what they have now and thats it 😲
@@alanrossreviews I have to imagine it's a problem of money maybe. I know it can't be cheap to roll out a new product but I would think at least a new sub would not be too bad.
I can hear some sorts of distortions with the Stadium speakers in high frequencies, I doesn't think it's coming from your recording.. looks like SBC limits them way more than the other speakers ? I'm not crazy you hear it too? this 7kHz peak is harsh too
i think they had to do that to give it some sparkle.

REALLY GOOD VIDEO. 👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you 🤗
Rocksteady just announced a 2.0 version cominf out june 1!
It would certainly need to be better than overhyped v1.
Hi Alan what do you think of the new minirig 4s? No longer APTX but more buttons and USB C.
in terms of sound disappointing, no reason to upgrade based on sound.
"unparalleled sound quality" Now indeed there is a sneaky phase eh? It has a positive connotation but as technicality, really anything different would not be parallel to them, better or worse.
"Hear your favorite artists and tracks like never before" Well, yep. You have never had these speakers before so, true! hahah.
yeah like listen under water, you wont have heard it like this before 🥳
From what I'm gathering, You dont quite understand passive radiators?
The passive acts the same as a port, by tuning the passive (with weight) to resonate somewhere down the natural rolloff near the fs and even below (point of least control, resonant point), it then takes over the job of resonating and creating sound where the main woofer would have falling output and rising distorion/excursion. They are essentially being used to output where the woofer is having trouble lol
Check out some of the literature around passive radiators, they are awesome for resonating low, in a small space where a port wouldnt fit or so long it would create harmonics, or when dealing with high port air speed causing chuffing. We sell plenty of them to diy builders who, with today's long throw drivers and small boxes, are often met with challenging port parameters.
Lol ok
ok you added back the question mark.
@@Luke-qs2cg yes i dont mean literally on the elbow i mean just after the roll off, just beyond the elbow 👍

Rocksteady vs jbl partybox encore?🤔
very different uses for these two setups
Hi,
need your opinion to choose one speaker:
- B&O a1 2gen
- JBL Flip 6
- JBL Charge 5
- Bose Soundlink Flex
Well, I’m looking for a portable speaker at home and for trips.
@@alanrossreviews
Unfortunately the battery is too bad on the a1 1st gen, that’s why I‘d prefer the 2nd gen.
@@TG-iy9wx I tried them both as well as Charge 5 and I like the sound of Soundlink Flex
@@alanrossreviews I see, use case would be sweet spot usage. Speakers directed towards ears.
@@FunkeXMix most work fine but avoid things like the wide angled tweeters of the motion plus as they work best for a single unit.
@@alanrossreviews Thanks. Last question. Which speakers in your experience have the best capability to produce highs with hifi clarity? Very EQable tweeters also an option.
@@FunkeXMix non are hifi like. there are reasons you pay 5 figures and more for true hifi. i know this question comes up a lot, which of these speakers around $300 sounds like a hifi, honestly none of them. the one i listen to most is the stormbox blast, its pretty eqable, its more hifi than most but its still nothing like true hifi.
there is a nice possibility of mobile home teacher... will be nice. and how much they coast here in Germany...
but only stereo decoding, big miss!
Tho I agree that the rock steady setup seems a bit too pricey.
these are not party speakers, these are for more analytical listening
@@alanrossreviews the harmon target curve thats present in the party box line is quite analytical too at low to medium volumes.
