Beach recovery in Cancun - Time-lapse - December 2009

Some hotels at the Zona Hotelera in Cancun had almost no beach after a beach erosion process.
A beach recovery project (the second one) started in November 2009. There is a ship that brings sand, and pumps it together with water through a thick metal pipe. On the beach, skilled workers move the sand around until the beach is flat and around 100m wide.

This video was taken on December 26th 2009, from a room on a third floor of one of the hotels in front of the beach. Two days after this, the access to this section of the beach was opened again.
The time-lapse was done using a Canon Ixus 80, using the CHDK firmware. Each frame was taken after 15s, and made into a movie with mencoder at 20fps. The 1360 frames correspond to 5 hours, 40 minutes.

So they make a bowl, then fill it up with liquid sand. After the water drains you have a new beach. Nice.
