    A bit about me:
    Not your average bloke in camo..
    Hello! I’m Ellie, English female detectorist, beachcomber, mudlark and artist. 🇬🇧 Follow my searching journey metal detecting the UK countryside and shoreline, as I learn about British history through objects.
    Have I found any treasure? Well - I’ve really been putting in the time, and in my first year of detecting I have collected Roman artefacts, old gold, hammered coins and medieval finds. But the REAL treasure is in the stories each object tells about people and places. Sometimes it’s the mystery objects that I love best - cracking the code of time with plenty of help from my team of trusty subscribers!

    My advice would be to look for the ferrous..Roman settlements, farmsteads etc are usually littered in iron..You look to be working a slope ..Look on Google maps to see if its orientated South, SE.. I have found many Roman sites here in Kent and they are usually situated on the top leveled out area above south facing slopes..It's not a given, but has payed off for me ..

    Hello Miss Detectorist. I really enjoy your channel - especially your approach to the subject. I myself am a historian and work with battlefields from the Middle Ages and the Danish-Swedish wars. But in my spare time I paint a lot - mostly landscapes. I have sat and enjoyed your pictures and thought that it is a shame, that we do not get to know you as an artist as well. Do you have a website with your art that you want to share with us?
    Thank you for your lovely videos.

    I’ve never left the country but I do travel to Devon from Yorkshire, just over 300 miles. I’ve often driven 150 miles to swing my coil.
    If you want the good finds you need to put the effort in, which for most who follow this hobby means travelling. Having said that my best ever find came from a local farm where I’ve spent countless hours finding nothing but rubbish, you just never know where something exceptional may be. keep up the good work, I enjoy the style of your videos.

    Such a fun day coming along with you. I really admire your enthusiasm and thoughtfulness of developing and discovering the hobby with a bit more effort toward researching your techniques and how you assimilate the historical perspective of these little objects by going to the preserved epicenters of Roman culture in these areas, like the baths. This is such an enriching experience for me as a novice to learn with you as you continue to really master the hobby in such a rich and historically diverse area. I can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next time. Let’s go!

    Hi Ellie! Great videos and great finds. I've been to England four times metal detecting when we have a lot of snow and frost in the winter. When I was younger, I often had nosebleeds. Old ceramic fragments are interesting and I found here in Finland a stone age ceramic fragment with the maker's fingerprint. I wonder what kind of person did it and if I could understand what he was saying. Congratulations on the wonderful finds.

    • @miss_detectorist
      @miss_detectorist  6 месяцев назад

      What an amazing find! I love ceramic fragments - as you say the hand of the maker is on it which feels very personal. Good to know it’s not just me with the nosebleeds!

    Hi Ellie,
    You're totally right, go metal detecting where good stuff is, it's obvious. but that may be difficult to organize, finding good spots first, finding land owners or farmers, getting permissions and getting there....
    I personally go nearby where I live, so that I can go by foot or by bike, or just 2 minutes drive, I have some permissions more afar and a detecting friend where we go together to good permissions 15 minutes far away
    Anyway congrats for you great finds

    • @miss_detectorist
      @miss_detectorist  6 месяцев назад

      I know it sounds obvious but so many people where I live get frustrated at the lack of finds, some areas are just naturally 'quiet'. Sometimes I think you have to take action! But yes, it is a bit of an effort, and for daily detecting having permissions close to home is fantastic - I do that too! Love that you ride your bike or on foot.

      Hi Gerald! Glad you enjoyed it! Gerald I would head over to LP Metal detecting website using this link - they are fantastic and helpful, good people to deal with.
      www.lpmetaldetcting.com/missdetectorist
      There you will find an option for the Detector Selector (at the bottom of the page, in the More About Us section.) Its a one minute quick quiz to determine your budget and the type of land or beach (or both!) that you want to detect on. It will point you in a good direction for you. As a pinpointer I highly recommend the Garret AT ProPointer - the best in my opinion. When you use my code MISSDETECTORIST at checkout, you will get 10% off selected lines too! Great to hear you're inspired!
