In case you were wondering there was a real BBC news correspondent called Brian Hanrahan back in those days, who I would imagine was part of the inspiration for Peter O'Hanraha-hanrahan.
Years ahead of its time. Stewart Lee was a young contributor to this. And Armando Iannucci ( Veep / The Thick of it ) also. It probably inspired the gaudy graphics of shock news shows like Fox.
He’s funny, so many levels higher than anyone else of his era can even come close. When you invent a whole new way to present the news, before anyone else even thought of it. And then he went there.
If you haven seen it I highly recommend "Four Lions" by Chris Morris. A fantastic movie that a lot of people were initially frightened at the thought of. As well as being extremely entertaining, there is such a message behind it. In its first outing, the movie was shown separately to white British audience and Muslim British audience. Both audiences said they that they loved it, but they didn't think the other group would find it acceptable. Personally, I think it's a masterpiece.
When I was a kid whenever there was a serious global conflict news report on bbc news especially the Northern Ireland conflict the announcer would always say "Brian Hanrahan reporting" and his name came synonymous with that type of news. Even then for a child the name had a slightly comedic feel to it, never knew why, might be the han at the beginning and end of the name and for some reason kids find that kind of thing amusing especially juxtaposed against sombre news stories and serious voices. Chris Morris is around the same age as me who in his youth must have had the same slight comic reaction as me to that name cropping up so often and saw the potential of creating a character around it.
Reminds me of the day I skipped school to go to a games arcade, came home and knew nothing about the police helicopter that had crashed into my school 🤣
I don’t know if anyone has recommended you do The Day Today’s “Mini News” segments: they were brief trailers shown the day before transmission of the actual episodes, which had new little sketches and off cuts from the segments of the main episode. Worth a look.
For me, the moral of the joke is that all journalists should be just as questioning of their colleagues. Then the likes of Johann Hari, Jayson Blair etc. might not have been given so much undeserved credibility.
5:21 Apologies Brad. Actually no, congratulations! Damn Lucy you are a smoke show with that new hair!!!! Not allowed to say that stuff these days but feck it!

I’m so glad you found this gem. The way he says “sipping a cappuccino” cracks me up every time. Love Peter o’hanraha-hanrahan.
Peter you've lost the news😂. Never gets old
Ooh! A Lucy's hairstyle comparison video! To quote Borat, the new one is a _"Great success!"_ 😉
One of my favourite clips ever.
The way he claims to have gotten out from floor 107 in about 4 seconds...
Totally dig the hair!!! 👍
I wish I lived next door to me. You ‘get’ English humour better than 99.999% of North Americans 😂😂

“You’ve lost the news!” - is still used in my social circle to mean “lost the plot” or gone mad
Looking hot with your fringe ❤
Hilarious reaction 😂
Peace love from England
Half the reporters I see on TV today seem to be Peter O'hanraha- hanrahans.

*Peter O'Hanraha-Hanrahan* aka *Tom Hardy* playing *Ronnie Kray* in *Legend* (2015)
Peters utter incompetence as a journalist that made him look such a fool in the past saved his life on that day. Being shi t was his superpower.
Ha, great title of the compilation vid - "the Best" of Peter O'Hanraha- hanrahan... begs the question... what is Peter like at his WORST...😬😬😬😬

👩🦰- it's going on early next week. 🙂
What was this from? Not heard this. Day Today was 1994, this is clearly at least 2001, didn't know they did later stuff
It was an Easter egg on the dvd collection released post 9-11❤
@@terrimasefield552 Ah, thanks, didn't know that
@@terrimasefield552 I'm astonished they thought this would be a good idea. Takes quite a lot of gloss off what I think of the series.
Sounds like a good plan A. What about plan B?
Sorry.
