- ✏️ I finally got my Valve Index in the mail after ordering it early December of 2019. Until now, the only experience I have with Virtual Reality headsets is the OG HTC Vive, so I'll be sharing a lot of my own comparisons between the two headsets, the Index Knuckle controllers and whether Base Station 2.0 is worth it. Time for a Valve Index setup guide for anyone curious about VR.

It's nice because you aren't in constant use of headphones or earphones which many have discomfort with.
I'm near sighted and its so uncomfortable to wear both glasses and headphones.
Also the VR itself isn't necessarily just for content creators so, not a clue what he's blabbering about.

Those speakers are a hybrid between current speaker tech and a tech that only a few years ago was made posible. They are called BMR’s

I was super skeptical about the speakers but I was white knuckling when you were talking about trying the get them off. Those little things are legit and it’s nice not having anything on your ears building heat

There comes a time where an opinion can be objectively wrong. Looking at the best headphones of the entire VR market, and far better than most headphones, and throwing them as trash without even trying them, is an objectively wrong opinion

I think the base station losing track issue has something to do with reflective things like mirrors or anything that reflects

@@VirtuelleWeltenMitKhan because he has no idea anyone outside Canada/US has different plugs. He can also use his 1.0 lighthouse adaptors with 2.0 lighthouses if he doesnt like the plug orientation.

I am really new on this subject and I have read about VR products for the last 2 days....
I can say with all certainty that you have no idea about the product that you have on your hands....
I will suggest to you to please read the manual.
The speakers are supposed to be amazing because they blast into your ears improving immersion. No need to take them off.
Your old base stations probably loose tracking because they are right next to each other. You’re supposed to put them on opposite corners of your play space.
He had them set aside for storage and obviously didn’t use them like that lol
I believe they make the power plug orientation like that because they are assuming you have a battery back up (UPS). I have 4 UPS setup around the house and the plugs are all turned side ways on the back of them. Strongly recommend a UPS for anything computer related. They save a lot of headache.
Also base stations don’t work well with reflective surfaces so it could be that big window causing the drift on controllers

in the beginning the htc vive box was way bigger but they made it smaller and more convenient to carry

the glasses thing on the front the small thing in there is for a small fan to cool down the headset and if you dont have that dont have the glasses on.the fan is called chilldex
I am totally gonna get one this Christmas now that my system is almost ready for VR and I have a big enough bedroom and floor space for VR. :)

They are open back speakers for the wearer, not for others in the room. This hurts me knowing you didn't understand that and assumed something else. Lol

The weird power box thingy that he talks about is that way so they're easily adaptable for other countries power supply and plug systems.

my email for the valve index came in yesterday and im so excited i had to wait an extra 2 months to get it but i havent had a vr headset since my quest broke down and i was bummed

Just use the old base station power cable on the new ones....
They have that attachment on the AC adapter because if the first one breaks you can order another one from online. Idk if they sell it but I know there are 3rd party sellers.
Also for international use, they only have to manufacture the small piece and not entirely different power boxes
I just have to say thank you so much for actually making a set-up guide whereas other RUclipsrs just make little clips of their set up

I watched your entire video thinking it would be helpful setting up my brand new vr that im super excited about. however your continuation of complaints and negative comments towards it kind of killed my excitment. I played with it now for an hour and i think the speakers are amazing i think it was worth every penny
this dude did did no research about the product he is talking about. not knowing what DP is, not knowing what are this "weird ac adapter" is for, not knowing that the base stations don't need to see each other etc etc. I'm happy that you are excited with your purchase :)
Half-Life 1 ran on toast. Half-Life 2 ran on a pentium 4 processor just fine.
I never imagined there'd be a new actual half-life game released and I'd be not playing it :(

they have that attachment so you don't have to manufacture different full ac to dc bridges for each country aka Europe and America its cheeper to do that apple does it too.

they are barely even speakers they are headphones a with a little distance between your ears your mic will not pick up a lot of it at all

Just a question the base stations do not connect to the computter how do they detect anything it should be the adder way around the controlr detects the laser from the bastion and the angel is calculated right?
They connect via bluetooth.

Does the Displayport have to be in the graphicscard?, My graphic card has 2 slots, but already in use. but the PC has a port itself.
Most of the time yes and it's absolutely better to connect it straight to the graphics card. I recommend have the monitor go through another port.

@@RoyHoy you don't need a valve index or gaming pc. you could buy an oculus quest which is completely standalone with an option to connect to a pc and is about $500 or you could go for a windows mixed reality headset with a vr capable pc, cheapest windows mixed reality headset i think is around $250 - $300. you don't need the best of the best just to play vr, you may not even like it.
@@fazerfox6172 I decided to buy the PS5 and then buy the next gen PSVR 2. So 2021 is when I'll try VR. Unless I magically become rich, then I'll buy a PC and VR.
The reason they used the display port is because it would look better.
Witherstorm Games18plus Na mate. The reason they used DisplayPort is because the hmd supports 120 - 144 hz which is not possible over HDMI. Also the Vive only Supports 90 hz which is indeed possible over HDMI

Can't use the breakout box from vive. Index ONLY supports Displayport, and no adapters will work.
What about mini dp to dp? (Laptop)
@@Jrekt Valve recommends that even if your laptop is capable of pushing the graphical power needed for this HMD, don't use a laptop. That's straight from steam. You could try it, but they say not to use a laptop whatsoever.
FrostByteLyfe yea I read on reddit it works but you MUST have atleast a mini dp. My laptop has a RTX 2080 in it so no worries there. I have a Rift S coming in a few days, not sure if an Index is worth the price difference or not.

The controllers should constantly be calibrating so if you drum your fingers along the grip it should become better
