@@Freddi7ication You might be right. But what we know from the current m3almiya (gnawa masters) is that many of the expressions and phrases used nowadays in Gnawa come from Moroccan tradition. For example, when they sing to some Moulay (prince, lord) like Moulay Ibrahim, Moulay Hmed and so on. Also they say that many of the religious sentences said in the gnawa songs are also related to moroccan traditions. And I would like to point out a couple of things. First is that Morocco and the rest of north africa was always connected to sahelian cultures through trade, even before the arabs introduced the camel. So we were always influenced by the rest of africans (mainly west africa and sahel) and they were always influenced by north africans. Second. Slavery in Islam is totally different than the slavery trade and the concept of slavery in Europe. So not only black people were slaves, berbers also were slaves of the arabs, berbers also owned slaves that could be from any race. Also the concept of slavery is different, they are not free labour and of course they were considered humans. Which was what did not happen in the transatlantic slave trade, where black slaves were just another valuable commodity. Slaves in islam were well-regarded and many people would marry their slaves and have kids with them, even sultans and local rulers. So the slave were not seen as less humans. What we know from our history is that Gnawas were brought by Moulay Hmed Almansour who was a Moroccan sultan that tried to conquer and control the declining Songhai Empire in Tombuktu in 1591. He brought with him prisoners of war and among them there were people that formed the Gnawa fraternity. This explains why in gnawa songs we hear a lot bambara, foulani, hauza, etc.
